Preop diet and struggling
blizair09 replied to thmitchell's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The mental game of this is far more challenging than the physical one in my opinion. Good luck as you continue your journey! -
On my plan, that is this week (Week 7), but I am going to stay away from them for a while because they will take up valuable real estate and not offer much in return. (Salads were a staple of my six month pre-op diet, but they just won't fit in at the moment...) What does your plan say? Every plan is different.

When did other people start to get hungry again?
blizair09 replied to ryan_86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am just behind you (today is Day 39 post-op). I eat about every 90 minutes or so (2 oz or so each time), or about 8 times in the day. So I'm never really hungry. I am getting between 800-900 calories per day, less than 20 carbs, and around 90 grams of Protein. How much protein are you getting in your 700-800 calories? How much are you eating at a time? -
Recommendations for unflavored protein
blizair09 replied to itsallido's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've used both unjury and Isopure unflavored Protein powder. Both were great. -
Did you try putting unflavored Protein powder into broth or strained creamed Soups? That helped me a lot during the liquid phase.I need to find a good unflavored protein....I tried GENEPRO but I could definitely taste it and it grossed me out! Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App The unjury Unflavored and the Isopure Unflavored both worked great for me.

Did you try putting unflavored Protein powder into broth or strained creamed soups? That helped me a lot during the liquid phase. Great point. I found myself going to fancier grocery stores just so I could get some of their gourmet soups form the deli. That really helped me get through that 6 weeks! Unfortunately, it's turned me off to soup now forever I may never want to be around cream of chicken soup again for the rest of my life!

Whether or not to eat the sugar free ice-cream is obviously a choice only you can make. I have two thoughts to throw out: (1) Sugar free items often have a lot of carbs, and (2) Trying to substitute "diet" versions of foods/drinks we loved pre-op often impedes the progress we need to make in re-establishing our relationship with food. I had to do 21 days of liquids post-op because I would not eat the week 3 foods in my plan because they were all loaded with carbs (cream of wheat, oatmeal, bananas, etc.). So, I completely understand that you may be sick of liquids because I was way over them myself after 3 weeks; however, always remember that the mental game of this is always going to need to be more aggressive than the physical one. Good luck!
-
I don't really, but I think that is because of the six months pre-op I spent re-establishing my relationship with food. Honestly, all of the benefits this new lifestyle brings (health and happiness being key among them) so far outweigh anything to do with the food I ate before I started this journey. Good luck!

I am overweight! And I am thrilled!

That's awesome! I know you are excited. -
I keep Protein shakes in the car as a "just in case." I haven't had to use one of them yet, but in these kinds of situations, they would come in handy. What would you do in this same case if you were in the first week or two post-op when you risk injury in eating the salad or chicken? That's the point @@rolosmom7 was trying to make...
-
I limit my carbs to 20 (usually less) per day, so that would be a no for me.
-
Are you on clear liquids or full liquids? It really depends on what your plan says. When my plan moved on to full liquids (Day 14), I was able to add strained creamed Soups which I combined with unflavored Protein powder. They helped a lot. No matter which liquid phase your plan has you on right now, I would not have sugar free ice-cream. Good luck!

When everyone else is drinking
blizair09 replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just drink water right now, but taking the Crystal Light Iced Tea to-go pack would make the water look like a brown-liquor drink if looking like you had an alcoholic drink was important... -
Weight loss requirements pre op?
blizair09 replied to nennas_mommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon had no weight loss requirement (but I did lose 99 pounds during my pre-op six-month insurance-required diet), but the surgeon who did my mom's sleeve and my dad's bypass required them to lose 10% of their body weight before he would operate. It sounds like they are asking you to lose 15 pounds in addition to the 6 you've lost which is a little under 10% of your original weight. They are probably asking you to do that to make sure you are serious about making the life changes necessary to make surgery successful. That was the goal of my parents' surgeon. (And if you read a few posts on here, that's a good thing. Every day there are multiple posts by people who very obviously were/are not prepared to make real life changes at all...) -
How much protein do you get in a day?
blizair09 replied to cuteNATL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How do you get 90 grams...What's your secret..lol Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App I eat 8 times in a day, spaced about 90 minutes apart (except for after the first "meal" of the morning when I leave 2.5 hours after to front load about 64 oz of water). It takes me all day (12-14 hours) of eating, waiting, drinking, waiting, eating again, etc. to get it all in. -
I agree with the others. Stalls happen to everyone, especially within the first few weeks. Stay off the scale, follow your plan, and it will pick back up soon.
-
I agree with everything you said, except for the part about fat. If you are on a low-carb diet, healthy fat is a good thing.

Just need some encouragement
blizair09 replied to Jacket52204's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It will pick back up. Your body is doing all sorts of internal healing and adjustments in the beginning. And with you breastfeeding, I would imagine that just adds to the adjustments. Give it a little time, and stay off of the scale if it is going to upset you. I hit the three week stall right on schedule. It lasted 2 weeks and I've lost 1-1.5 pounds every day since then. (Today is Day 39 post-op for me.) Good luck! -
What does your plan say? My plan has all rice on the "avoid forever" list.

Can't move my bowels

Try Milk of Magnesia. If you do, just take a couple of sips. -
Chewing but not swallowing

You REALLY SHOULD NOT do that.
