    OJ

What does your plan say? For me, that would be a big no. OJ has too many calories, and too much sugar for the weight loss phase -- especially in the very beginning. (And I can't imagine what the acid would be like on the new stomach...) Why don't you try some sort of non-calorie, non-Water beverage? Powerade Zero worked great for me during the first week or two post-op.
  2. New pictures posted. I really feel like I will meet my goal of 250 pounds (147 pound loss) by the time we leave for our Southeast Asia trip on December 19!

  3. The mental challenge is far beyond that of the physical challenge, in my opinion. My insurance required me to do a six-month diet program before they would approve and pay for the surgery. I took that time to re-establish my relationship with food and get myself ready for the mental game (and I lost almost 100 pounds to boot). Right now, just focus on your Protein and Water. And keep working on that mental game. Once you get that under control, it really isn't as bad as it seems. Good luck!

    Carbs..

I keep my carbs below 20 grams per day. Most days, they stay below 17 grams.

    Happy today

    Yay!!

    Normal?

Its just the way my mind is set up now. The staring, the questions, it's just super annoying to have people stare at me and wonder why I'm eating so much less of food and acting like I'm "better then them". -Ariannuhh❤️ You need to work to get yourself in a position where the food is not the centerpiece of the event. Just go and enjoy the company of your friends -- eat if you can/need to, don't eat when you can't/don't need to. Did you tell your friends about the surgery? If they know about your journey, I can't imagine they'd think anything of it.

    Trolls

So when someone you counsel falls off of the wagon, do you coddle them or do you get tough real quick? We found out about five years ago that my dad had a 20-year pill addiction. My family didn't coddle him. We got him in rehab and we have ridden his ass every since. In my opinion, one of two things will happen to all of these people who have no control with food consumption. In the best case, they will lose a handful of pounds while the sleeve makes it impossible not to do so. Then, they gain it all back because they never re-established their relationship with food. In the worst case, they'll have significant health problems (that could lead to death) because their refusal to stop eating inappropriate foods will cause a leak or worse. It is just food. Seriously.

    So Humiliated

Why don't you get started now? My six month insurance-required pre-op diet program helped me to completely re-establish my relationship with food and made post-op life tremendously easier (and I lost almost 100 pounds to boot!). I will always be thankful for my insurance having that requirement. Good luck!

    Post op liquid diet

The Protein shakes have never been my favorite thing, but in the early days and weeks post-op, they are an absolute necessity. Just think of them as medicine or body fuel that you just have to intake and not something that you have to like or enjoy. Good luck!

    Not sure I'm strong enough

I would definitely go through with the surgery. Whatever trials and tribulations come your way in life, you'll deal with them more effectively with better health and enhanced self-confidence. Good luck!

    Ice tea

Do you use splendid. .or just plain decaf! Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App I use 1 stevia packet for a 16 oz glass of tea.

    I'm devastated

I'm sorry. I hope the appeal is swift and effective.
  15. Healthy fat is actually a good thing. Consuming healthy fat helps the fat-burning process when on a low carb diet. I lost almost 100 pounds during my six-month insurance-required pre-op diet that way, and I am following that diet post-op now as well. Low carb and low fat at the same time is a tough row to hoe. (And in my case, it historically was far less effective.) That is fantastic. Can u share a typical day post op? Still trying to get the hang of what to eat! I feel lost at times...well most of the times. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App This is what I had yesterday. Ice tea

I drink decaf iced tea once per day (16 oz). My plan doesn't say no to caffeine, but I haven't had any in 46 days now, and since I was so addicted to it for my entire life, I am going to keep it out for now.

    So excited!

    That's awesome. Congratulations!
  19. This probably won't be your favorite part of the journey, but it is important nonetheless. Just remember your goals and power through. You'll be really proud on the back end of it! Good luck with the pre-op work and best wishes as you countdown to your surgery.

    Disgusted/grossed out by meat

I would be really sad if I developed a meat aversion. Thankfully, salmon, chicken, and ground beef have all worked pretty well as I have been allowed to introduce them over the past couple of weeks. (Though the chicken and beef sit a lot heavier than the salmon does. But, it's only been 2 days, so I'm hoping that as my body gets used to them, they won't sit so heavy...)
  21. blizair09

    I ate an egg

Yay! I got to add eggs a little over 2 weeks ago. Now, I have one scrambled egg every morning first thing.

    Surgery tomorrow

Good luck tomorrow. You'll probably feel lousy the next few days, but you'll rebound quickly!!

    Psych eval tomorrow! Scared.

I actually enjoyed my Psych Eval. The psychologist and I talked for about an hour and then I had to take this 500 question battery that took me at least an hour (maybe closer to 2). We talked about my relationship with food, and specifically all the changes I had made pre-op to prepare myself. I found it to be really reflective -- and since it was also covered by my insurance, not a bad use of my $25 co-pay.

    Clear liquids vs. Shakes

It is interesting how people are so different. Water never gave me trouble, but it took me about 2 hours to finish a Premier Protein shake at first and I couldn't add them in until Day 10.

    Disgusted/grossed out by meat

I just got to add ground beef and turkey this week (Week 7 post-op). I wouldn't have been able to handle it after one month at all. Try again in a couple of weeks and see if they work for you.
