@NPR-- here is a link to very specific instructions about Orbera that I found in one of the old threads. https://www.muhealth.org/app/files/public/2232/orbera-Surgery-Guidelines.docx It says if you have nausea and/or vomiting, you should go back to clear liquid diet. It also has a list of questions you should ask yourself if you are feeling discomfort.

I'm 8 days out too. Also lost 5-6 lbs. I don't feel like crap all the time. But I don't feel great all the time either. I feel tired but I seem to be able to get things done. I also feel bloated and have been having reflux. Each day seems different. The last couple of days, my back has been hurting, but I've been getting a lot of kayaking and hiking in anyway. My back hurts even while hiking and I'm just powering through it. I'm going to see a PA at my doc's office tomorrow and I hope that we can figure out what foods aren't agreeing with me. It definitely seems like sipping beverages slowly and following the no drinking beverages with meals rule is important to avoid reflux. I haven't felt nauseous since the 4th day. I feel the balloon --meaning I feel full almost all the time. I have to really think about getting enough Protein, calories and Water in. I'm going to try downward dog for the back ache after I write this post. It's no walk in the park. That being said, I don't regret it. I'm looking forward to the weight loss, slow or fast. I was reading another post that recommended some books on emotional eating. One of the books' suggestions was to list 10-15 advantages of losing weight on an index card and keeping it in your pocket, look at it when you are feeling negative. I did that today and it seems to have reset my attitude. I'm also trying to take care of myself, like resting, taking baths, getting a mani/pedi, trying to slow down my schedule so I can do this right. Are you doing anything to take care of yourself besides the meds? Also, my doctor wrote me a script for more anti-nausea Patches, maybe you could get yours to call in an Rx to your pharmacy.

I just had balloon placed on 8/29. No complications with procedure itself as far as I know. I wasn't wearing my contacts during the procedure. Now my near sighted vision is blurred with either my glasses or contacts. Has anybody heard of this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Thank you everyone! As soon as I got my replies, I took off the patch and everything is almost back to normal--vision wise. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Getting my balloon on 8/29. Need some advice please!

@@Wayward Traveler. And everybody else. Im at Day 4 after insertion. The hospital or clinic changed my procedure from 11:45 am to 1:15pm w/o telling me. I live an hour away from the hospital at 1pm So going home wasn't an option. There were other miscommunication from the doc's office. It was really confusing. And I got upset. Eventually I was able to calm my self down. I went under at about 1:25 and woke up at 1:40. I made sure to take the emetic pill and the nausea patch. I realized that I still wanted to go through with it. I trusted the hospital, nurses and the doctors. So I calmed myself down and it seems to have gone off w/o a hitch. I woke up 20 min later w/ my only complaint is that I feel overly full. When I got home, I threw up 2x and 3x yesterday. I'm down 2lbs. I think they got me in OR at 1:25pm sleeping on my left side seems to help. He wedge doesn't help that much. I'm glad I have broth, Popsicles, Jello and hot lemon Water. I'm also making sure to follow dr protocols to a T. Today was the first day I decided to have a chocolate smoothie with strawberries and it was really good. I made a point of doing this so I can have Clear liquids before bed to minimize acid reflux. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I'm getting my balloon placed on Monday too. I'm traveling and left all my rx and instructions at home. I did review everything before I left and I took notes for pre-op, during and post-op. I've also been re-reading posts here. The doc's office called me today and confirmed procedure time for Monday. I wanted to confirm that it would be liquids only the day before. When the nurse confirmed that she said well you've been taking your PPIs all week right? And I said "what?" She said I should have gotten pre-op instructions. I didn't. She emailed it to me immediately. I was suppose to be taking the PPIs (Prilosec or proton pump inhibitors) all week and I'm suppose to take 2 different kinds of anti-emetic 3 hours before procedure. Ugh. The doc said it should be ok and I think it should be ok, since I've never had acid reflux before. But FYI maybe take some PPIs and definitely have anti nausea patch right before surgery. I do trust this doctor. I think his office and the hospital where the procedure is taking place still don't know what to do with balloon patients. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I've had a tummy tuck (2004) and I'm getting balloon on Monday. I've also had a C-section (2001). My doc didn't say anything. Yikes! I'm going to double check. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

"Interesting" Food Finds ...

I know this is an old post, but I've gotten such great info from these forums that I thought I'd share. We just started using Wallaby unsweetened fruit Greek yogurt. It's good. I like Noosa better but this one is better for you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Shirleyd90-- I think it's great that you've already lost 10lbs! I'm sorry your doctor isn't that responsive and didn't remember your name. I'd be annoyed, too! I'm traveling right now and don't have my post-op instructions but I think I was told that for every 1/2 hour of sitting you should walk for 5 minutes to reduce cramping. Are you doing that? Hang in there and check out other threads. I've also checked out post-op hints for people who've had other surgeries. I think they apply to us too to some extent. Anewmee-- can I ask what weight and/or BMI you started off with? It sounds like your doc knew what s/he was doing! Are you getting support from his office? Any tips for us who are about to have it done? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Brezzytime678--you're right. My outlook is not positive enough. It's something I need to work on to make sure this procedure works for me in the long run. I already called the psychologist who interviewed me at the bariatric clinic to see if I could see him regularly during the next 6 months to a year to adjust my behavior towards food/weight. We talked a little bit about my mental block during my consultation for the balloon. I too am using it off label. My BMI is 27.4, but I have been concerned because I have gained 20 lbs in the last 4 years. I also suffer from anxiety and depression and have received counseling for those. I feel better but I need something to jumpstart the weight loss. seeing that you are doing well now, I'm hopeful that I CAN do it, too. It's really been helpful reading the posts on these forums.

Thanks for the reply. I forgot about the Xanax. My docs office included that too. I don't have apple juice on my list though. That seems important for the low blood sugar. You're younger than me. I'm 43. I'm preparing myself mentally that my age and that I'm aiming to lose 30lbs that I won't see the dramatic weight loss that others have seen. Do you think you've lost weight even though you are bloating? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi. I am scheduled for Orbera insertion on August 29. I've been reading this forum and have ordered supplies and made my grocery list and thinking of what I need to do to change my eating habits. I had to negotiate a year's worth of nutritional counseling to go with package I paid for and I called a food behavior psychologist which I will pay for additionally. Brezzytime678--hang in there. This forum seems like a great support group. I'm skeptical about what kind of support I will get from doc and that's why I did the above. Glad to hear your doc is calling you and giving you pep talks. NurseJenn422, my doctor's office also said to have children's liquid Tylenol on hand for pain. I don't think I've read that--people have just implied that they will need it for pain. Another thing I read on realself.com was the recommendation to have your doctor prescribe 3-4 different kinds of anti-nausea meds just in case one of them doesn't work. Has anybody experienced any resistance to their anti-nausea meds? I saw recommendations for patch even before procedure. I've also read that people are experiencing gas issues. Are you guys experiencing that? Are you taking anything and if so what? I live in a small town and things aren't always readily available so I'm trying to prepare.
