Dr. Julie Kilgore - Nicholson Clinic - Plano, TX
Pandorica217 replied to Ms. Brightside's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm doing great!! I'm down 70 from 225. Have had no issues. My loss has all been without exercise because I found out I had a hip issue about 6 weeks after my sleeve (which I had surgery for in January and am still in rehab for) so I wasn't allowed to do any real exercise. I'm still 30 from my goal but I was a size 18-20 and am an 8 now (would be smaller if it wasn't for my T&A) [emoji16] -
Its not the stress of any surgery, its this Wls. Ive had several surgeries, major back surgery, neck surgery and double knee surgery 2x and 3 csections and never had my hair fall out. But this surgery with our bodies lossing the nature nutrients that we automatically produced is being lost. Thats why its so important to get that protein in. I started with the Biotin when i started the process because i just didnt want this to be soooo bad. Maybe it wont be as bad since i already have it in my system. Good luck with that Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App Yes it can be THIS surgery that caused the hair loss for YOU. However, any majorly stressful event can cause hair loss. Which means that any type of major surgery can cause hair loss. The type of hair loss is called telogen effluvium. It can be from the weight loss, decreased nutrients, hormone imbalance, the general stress of having a major surgery and sometimes as a side effect to general anesthesia. But just because you didn't have hair loss until this surgery does NOT mean it's the cause for others. Sometimes, it is simply because your body went through a stressful event. Oh and I totally understand the self confidence. Before any weight loss my hair was the the one thing I felt good about myself. It was the thing that even all my skinny friends were jealous of. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

So, I was sleeved 8/4/16 and my hair started falling out about 5 weeks ago. I had what all my friends call "mermaid hair". I've started using Nioxin shampoo, taking a hair Vitamin (that sugar bear hair gummy that's advertised) and being more diligent about my Protein. Had all my labs rechecked with my PCP just to make sure there wasn't anything else going on. I feel like the loss is starting to slow and I seem to have a lot of new baby hairs coming in. My PCP said that hair loss is common after a stressful event, which surgery definitely is!! He said will usually take about 6 months after the stressful event to stop. Which kinda freaks me out because I have to have hip surgery in mid January and I'm afraid that will just kick off another 6 months of losing hair. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Ladies only - IUD or Implant?
Pandorica217 replied to rolosmom7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've had the mirena IUD for about 4 years. It stopped my periods completely right away. Which was awesome because I have endometriosis and dysmenorrhea. Along with no periods I've also had no PMS, cramps etc. I have had a couple "periods" since my sleeve, just light sporting for a few days. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Tired of hearing I don't need surgery!
Pandorica217 replied to Dknal2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's the word 'that'. I heard it a lot too. Like, ok, so you thought I was/am big and fat just not THAT fat or THAT big. Irked me big time. But for the most part my friends have been supportive. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Dr. Julie Kilgore - Nicholson Clinic - Plano, TX
Pandorica217 replied to Ms. Brightside's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you so much for your insight! I had looked into Drs. Hamn & Cribbins, as well. We're lucky in NTX with so many great options! I was sleeved 8/4 by Dr Cribbins, he did my mom on 9/4 and a good friend last week. Love him and his office!!! My mom and I did our research of docs before choosing him, including the Nicholson Clinic, Kim Bariatric and a few others. Drs Cribbins/Hamm came VERY highly recommended. Not to mention several of my patients saw them and had excellent experiences. Even my ortho said he wouldn't send him family to anytime but Cribbins/Hamm. They operate at either Plano Presbyterian or Baylor Frisco. Just my 2 cents. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Period question ?
Pandorica217 replied to christinah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well if it makes anyone feel any better, I hadn't had a period in almost 4 years due to having an IUD. Was sleeved 8/4 and have had 3 periods since. I had to go buy tampons, realized I had totally forgotten what kind I used to get!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Help with protein powder choices?
Pandorica217 replied to Shauny85's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
As long as your using specifically "whey protein isolate" it is safe to use for lactose intolerance. Shouldn't give you any trouble. My fave is the ON brand, can get online or GNC or The Vitamin Shoppe...lots of flavors!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Has anyone used gas x strips after surgery?
Pandorica217 replied to Mnicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The point is not where the gas is but the medication being used. The strips contain simethecone which used to relieve the gas. Putting them on your tongue rather than swallowing allows the medicine to be absorbed into your system faster, giving you faster relief. And yes they work!! Lifesaver for me post op!! I fully admit I had a 2 week food funeral. Went for Mexican like 4 times, ordered pizza 3 times. Had Italian. Had all my favorite fast food--Sonic, Whataburger, Raising Canes, Jack in the Box. Sushi, cake and McDonalds Breakfast almost every morning Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
