Newbie Here! My story so far...
PNWsleever replied to PNWsleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I completed my nutritionist visit and psych exam. Both were pretty easy. I learned so much in both consultations. I almost cried in my psych visit because he totally understood how the weight struggle is and he was definitely supportive of my decision. Next friday I will be completing my pre op education class and that same day my papers will be sent off for insurance approval. It's starting to hit home now and I'm freaking out a little. I don't know what has me so nervous. This is what I want and I'm doing it. I'm still confident this will be one of the best decisions I ever make for myself. Collette I am so sorry you had to go through that! There is no way I would ever want to work with an office that was so unprofessional and unkind. Everything happens for a reason and I'm sure you will have a much better experience with your first choice Dr. You deserve to be treated like a person not a number! Good luck on Monday! Definitely great to be prepared! And look at you already checking off that requirements list! I have a consultation with a nutritionist tomorrow and Friday will be my psych eval. I have to attend a pre surgery education class before sending everything off to insurance so I will be scheduling that tomorrow. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -

Ekg and chest xray were completed on wednesday. Those were probably the fastest test ever! Literally about 10 minutes to complete both! I have my nutritionist appointment and my psych eval next week. After that I will need to do a preop education class and then I'm done!! I can't wait to finally get scheduled and have everything sent off to insurance. Not at all. My surgeon got the insurance requirements and there were only 3. Easy peasy! From what I've heard bscs of IL is quick and painless when waiting for approval as well. I will keep you posted as I will be done with my surgeons requirements next week. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -

My family is freaking out
PNWsleever replied to parhtx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I didn't have any other way to get the surgery I would have gone to Mexico also. My family and friends would have never supported it so I would have had to go alone. My advice would be that this isn't about your family. You are doing this for you and you alone will have to go through this journey. If your family doesn't support you then that's on them. Stay positive and do your research. Best of luck! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -

I still have the psych eval and preop educational class to complete the first week in october. After that I will get my date. I'm hoping for Oct or Nov. I'm so glad to finally get out of the standstill and get things done! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
So I had my initial consultation on 8/26 with my surgeon. I was told to wait one week after seeing him before calling to make appointments for my testing. I called on 9/2 and discovered that my surgeon had not yet sent out the referrals in order for me to get my testing scheduled, and was told to call back today 9/7. I called today, and he still hasn't sent anything out and I cant do anything until he does. I was told that the office staff has sent a message to his nurse to call me as soon as the referrals have been sent out. I'm loosing paid Dr. visit benefits at work on 9/26 and am literally in a race against time to get these appointments in. I'm so stressed out and honestly upset that it is taking my surgeon this long to send the referrals out. I don't feel like my time is being valued at all. I hate being this close to the end of the year trying to get everything done too. Heaven forbid that the new year rolls around and the surgery is no longer covered! Am I overreacting or do I need to just chill?

Am I overreacting?
PNWsleever replied to PNWsleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@PNWsleever no, i don't think so if you can get over to his office, i would run not walk and speak with staff member i've always had better results about anything talking face to face NOT monitor to monitor, or phone to phone!!! explain again the necessity to have these tests done/finished immediately fingers crossed that he'll get that message within a couple of days maybe then he'll (or staff) get their arse in gear!!! good luck kathy Thank you! I was just about to go this route when his office called and let me know that the referrals have been sent off. Now I'll be able to get all but 2 tests completed before the end of the month. I feel much better now! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -

I am going to attempt to speak with her tomorrow. Even if i cant get all of the appointments in, I can at least get some and that's what I'm wanting to do. My clinic has walk in appointments on Wednesdays. I could walk in and take care of the EKG, blood work, and Chest X ray in one day (with the referral). That alone I could have done today. -

My frustration level is high today. It's been almost 2 weeks since my consultation with my surgeon and he STILL has not sent in the orders for my testing. I can't make any appointments or do anything until he does. What's worse is I am loosing my paid Dr. Visit benefits at work in 3 weeks. I called his medical staff today and asked them why it's taking so long? They said they will send a message to his nurse and she would call as soon as the orders go out. Perhaps I need to chill but I cant. I just want to get these tests over with! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
How long before you could go back to work? (desk job/non physical)

My surgeon suggested 4 weeks. I'm an administrative assistant and he said I would still feel tired at the end of the day. Gotta get used to your new lifestyle. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
Im new here and am meeting with my surgeon next friday to start my preop testing and go over insurance requirements. My PCP is against wls. He said he would rather put me on anti depressants or some kind of insulin shots for at least 6 months to try to curb my appetite. I'm not depressed and am not willing to try his suggestions because I've been obese for 12 years (BMI is 45) . The time for "trying things" is over. My bariatric program said that they will write the letter of medical necessity and I didn't see anything in my insurance requirements about having my PCPs permission for surgery. Do I have to have his support? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
