Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Charlene K replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a question.....Is it common to get a headache a few days after banding? I have had a nagging headache on the right side of my head all day long.....not real bad, but bothersome. Did anyone have this? -

I don't have any tips because I am a newbie with back issues too. Props to you for sticking to the plan. Alot of people give up when the results aren't fast. It took us a long time to get here and it won't go away in a year. Hang in there! You are doing great!:scared2: -
Who's Getting Banded in July?
Charlene K replied to SanDiegoSusan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on July 16th.....doing pretty good. Those of you who are waiting for surgery, it is not as bad as you have imagined. Sure there is pain, but your doctor does not want you in pain or nauseated. I took a pill for nausea that last for 48hrs, and after surgery I only needed one shot of tordol for pain. I am on day four, I have a little pain, but not worth taking liquid tylenol. I wish all of you a successful surgery and speedy recovery! -
I was banded too. I was given a pill before surgery that prevents nausea for forty eight hrs. Then I think I had one tordol shot and all I have now is a sore port site. Of course the gas is unconfortable, but I have been trying to walk. So we have alot to be thankful for. Now, it is two more weeks of Protein shakes and on to mushies.

Thanks! I had laparoscopic, but two sites are two inches long. Yeah, the liquids are boring, but we've gone this far....can't get off the program. Take care! -

I am home! I had to stay overnight because he had to plow through my adhesions and the surgery took awhile. He said he almost closed me up, and cancel the surgery. He said my intestines are encased in adhesions. He definitely would have never done bypass. Anyway, he got through and now I am banded. Yea! I am on liquids and will start protein shakes this weekend. I am only sore at the port site, but I will keep walking because I know there is still gas in me. Thanks fellow bandsters for the prayers. I felt them, and I am sure the good Lord guided Dr. Garth's hands. By the way, Big Medicine is on Discovery Health tonite. -

Too cool! I have to be there at 9a. I figure we will all be lined up after being prepped. It will be a long day if he doesn't get to me till the early afternoon. I hope they will give me some "HAPPY JUICE". I drank the Isopure this evening and it did pick me up. I drank some Gatorade too. I have my Liquid Tylenol, chewable Pepcid, and Gax X Tabs. Oh, and some Listerine Tabs. I am good to GO! May God Bless You! -
Pray for me too!

I know, it has an aftertaste. I drank the pineapple today...not too bad. The guy at GNC told me the bullets have caffeine in them, so I did not buy any. -

I bought Isopure at GNC. One bottle is 40g of protein. It comes in several flavors. -
Congrats! Good for you! Belgium....WOW! ....that was a long flight. You must be doing good. Thanks for the tea tip. I am going in in the morning for my band. It is clear liquid day and I am trying to stay busy and not dwell on my hunger pangs.

Welcome! You will get support Here. I am getting banded tomorrow. I don't know if I would have gone through it had it not been for joining LBT fifties. Everyone is so supportive and can give you good tips. Go back a few pages.....Phyllser was talking about a Pouch Test that can help get you back on track. -

The punch tastes like punch with Vitamins....I haven't tried the grape or pinapple. One of the banders told me that apple was good. -

I will be on protein shakes for two weeks after two days of clear liquids. If you are on clear liquids for two weeks try the Isopure . I bought a few bottles for after surgery and they have 40g of protein.....comes in several flavors. They also have the powder, but I didn't want to invest that much money in it. You can get it at GNC. -

Me too.....What hospital? I will be in University General. -
This is my last day of Protein shakes. I guess it gets a little easier....I have no energy. Tomorrow is Clear Liquids and then surgery.....then two more weeks of Protein Shakes. I thought I would have lost more than 7lbs. Oh well, it will all be worth it. So, hang in there!:smile2:

Phyl , I hope you don't mind if I send you private messages after my surgery on the 16th. Being a nurse I know you can tell me when to call the dr. The last three abdominal surgeries I had came with complications. I have had three bowel obstructions. He said he won't touch my intestines, but you can understand why I am anxious. Anyway, here is a question. Should I take Miralax the night before the surgery? I am concerned about the barium not going thru my gut . I take Miralax everyday. What's your opinion?

long, don't beat yourself up over today......just get back on the bandwagon tomorrow. It happens. Old habits die hard. Hey, I have been on that liquid diet.....and I won't lie....I ate 3oz of tuna today. It was 90cal. So I skipped one of my shakes. We all need each other for support. When you get a fill it will be different. Please tell me I won't be this hungry after I am banded. I am just glad I opted for banding and not the Optifast Diet the doctor offered. By the way, I bought several bottles of Isopure for after surgery. Did any of you drink Gatorade? My son lived on that stuff for a few days after surgery. Another thing....where is Indiogirl? I haven't seen a post in a few days. -

Yeah, excuse my ignorance....but what is the purpose for a pouch test? Is it to get back on track? -

My son had lap-band and my daughter in-law had gastric bypass. They both lost 120lbs in a year. My son quit getting fills and gained half of his weight back and my daughter -in-law has maintained her loss. The difference I see is with lap-band you have to maintain it with fills. Both required eating right and exercising. They are both tools.....one is more permanent than the other. I personally don't like the risk of losing so many nutrients with bypass. I am too old to suffer bone loss or memory loss. I don't know what the stats are on that.....it is just how I feel about it. So, on Wednesday I will get my band. -

CONGRATULATIONS ASHLEY! So glad to hear you had a successful surgery and experience at the hospital. I guess this liquid diet I am on is all worth it. Come on Wednesday!
