I don't know your family, but when my son told me he was getting banded I was so proud of him .....owning your obesity and doing something about it is courageous. I got banded because I saw the success of my son. Obesity runs on both sides of our families too. Everyone of my children were supportive. I told everyone because I wanted to make myself accountable. This is just how I feel about the whole thing. Your situation may be different. Just stay on your new journey and it will all work out. I am eating between 800-900 calories a day and I walk 30minutes a day. 2000 calories sounds kinda high. I am only following the advice of my dietician and getting alot of support on the Mentor thread by Indiogirl.

Janet told me to cook pinto beans, drain the broth and save it...then puree the pintos and add the broth back....makes cream of bean soup. I did it with navy beans....it was awesome. I didn't have to drain the broth because the beans were cooked so long it just made soup. It is a nice change from pureed tuna and chicken.

Janet, thanks for the bean soup idea. My husband made navy beans yesterday and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. He cooked them to a soup consistency. They were awesome. Got any more ideas for soft food....share.

Welcome newmama29 and foxymama.....congrats on a successful surgery and weight loss. We all have started this new journey together. I wish the band had been available when I was your age. Of course there was another type of band , but it was not adjustable so when people lost their weight, they got hungry and put it back on. Anyway, your never to old or too young to change your eating habits. I am determined to be successful . My husband made navy beans today. He cooked them a long time to where they were like a soup. It was very filling. I have also found that eggbeaters with a teaspoon of light mayo pureed in a majic bullet is very filling. Those are two foods that fill me up. What fills you?...share....I need new ideas for protein.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

And I was feeling bad for eating too many navy Beans my DH cooked. They were awesome. I didn't even have to puree them because it was more like navy bean Soup. It doesn't hurt to have something special once in awhile. Your right, just move on! Walk an extra block. :cursing::scared2:

Diane, I am going through the same thing. When I get up in the morning, I walk, then I start writing down everything that goes in my mouth. I schedule out my small meals, and my water. I eat one hour, the next hour I drink.....3-4oz of pureed food or protein shake....then 1 cup of water the next hour. I feel like a newborn.....and in a way I am.....a whole new way of eating. We can get through this till fill day. Hang in there!

Congrats, Long, on your weight loss. I am glad you only have to wait a week for surgery. You will recover in no time. How many calories do you eat in a day? I am thinking I need to bump mine up from 700-800 to 800-900. I think my body may be in starvation mode. I thought I would lose more with less calories, but my son, who was banded a couple of years ago, said I need to eat more. What do you think?

Welcome to "bandster's hell". I am going through it too. I am on pureed food and protein shakes till Aug 6th. I have been trying to keep it to 700-800 calories a day. It's tough, especially when I eat carbs....they tend to make me hungry. I think I am going to bump up my calories to 800-900 because I think I might lose better on more intake. I walk 30 minutes a day, but I might have to up that too. We just need to keep doing what we are doing till we get a fill. Hang in there!

Janet .....thanks for the pinto suggestion....my DH makes killer pintos. I will get him involved in this too. I am supposed to be on full liquids, but the dieticians list says I can have all those things as long as I puree them. I have had pureed eggbeaters, tuna, chicken and cottage cheese. Next week I don't have to puree them.

Janet.....WE MISSED YOU! I think I am starting "bandster hell". I am getting hungry too often. Those shakes don't hold me! I am eating pureed food (3oz )three times a day and drinking protein shakes three times a day with water inbetween. Just venting. Got any suggestions....?????

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I just got back from seeing the PA after twelve days post op. I lost 12lbs since I saw them on June 28th. Most of it was from the liquid diet pre op. I told her I couldn't do five shakes a day.....that I was doing three shakes and two pureed foods. She was fine with it. I get my first fill on the 21st of next month. Can't wait. She said I would get some restriction. I guess I am entering the "bandster hell" phase. I hope I can keep it to 700 calories a day.

I could tell you not to freak out, but that is normal. It is not nearly as bad as you imagine. When you get into preop tell them you are nervous...most doctors give something......Everyone's pain threshhold is different. When I came out of the surgery I only needed tordol because of adhesions they had to cut. I took tylenol a couple of times at home. I did sleep in a recliner for a week....it is a little difficult getting in and out of bed. Be sure you walk. It will help with the gas. You will do fine. I will pray for a successful surgery and recovery for you. when you are up to it , let us know how you are doing.

Well, I lost that six in fluid, now I have only lost three. I started walking and I am staying around 700 calories. Last night I scrambled a half cup of eggbeaters and put them in the Majic Bullet with a teaspoon of light mayo.....it was yum. I figure it was about 100calories. Also I put 3ounces of lime yogurt in a scoop of vanilla protein with ice and water....it was yum too compared to the regular shake. Just keep doing what you are doing....your body has not yet adjusted. Your body may have gone into starvation mode and is hanging on to what is going in it. Hang it there! Don't weigh for a few days. You know the ole saying" A watched pot doesn't boil".

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Me too.....I slept in a recliner for the first week. It is hard to sleep in a bed . I needed a pillow for coughing, but more for protection from my puppy jumping in my lap. Your right, all Drs have their on protocol. It's best to follow their orders.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I had to initial the paperwork giving permission for a laparatomy, but inspite of all my adhesions he was able to do laparascopic. I did stay overnight for observations. Anyway, I couldn't urinate because of all the drugs so it was a good thing i stayed. I left in the early afternoon. My insurance paid for it. I wore a MOO MOO and it was the perfect thing to wear. Be sure and take a gown and robe. I used the robe when I walked and I walked every two hours. It helps with the gas. Then I took a gown and used it the next day. I wore my MOO MOO home. I waited almost five hours in my room before surgery, so taking something to read might be a good idea. I was told to bring my own meds and I took them the next morning. This was about the easiest surgery I have had. I had one pain shot and when I came home I think I tood Liquid Tylenol twice. You need that and Gas-x strips when you get home. I also take pepcid so I bought chewable pepcid. I hope your experience is as good as the one I had. I wish Y'all a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. You will be in my prayers.

I agree. Another tip..... Gas X Strips. It really helps the bloating and gas. I was banded 7/16 and I have been taking one in the morning and one in the evening.

I believe it.....but what is weird.....when I got back from barium test , they never reconneted me to the IV fluids. I did drink water all night long. Oh well, I would rather be pumped full of fluids than dehydrate.

I had mine at University General on Fannin. There is another girl on the July thread that had surgery in the same hospital and was probably on the same floor. Well, we can follow each other's progress online. I gained six pounds... I guess from the fluid in surgery. I have lost that and now it is a slow go. I am staying around 700 calories.....some protein shakes and some pureed food. I just need to stay off the scale and weigh once a week. I have started walking and hope that will help.
