Apples.........try it! Get it out of your system. I haven't worked since 2000. I volunteer. I know what you mean about interacting with others. I am a people person too. Girl, if it doesn't work for you............quit! Oh, a quick update on me. I have been in pain since the weather changed. I am going to the GP tomorrow, then the weight loss doctor on the 19th......then the endocrinologist on the 22nd. I need some answers. All of the adhesions around my band surgery hurt. My arms and legs feel like I have the flu. Now, today, it is sunny and the pain has gone. Go figure.

This is a fly by...........not feeling good. I am having spasms across my abdomen where I had band surgery. I have an appt with the GP on thursday. I have an appt with the WL doctor on the 19th and endocrinologist on the 22nd. Boy, I am old! I should get to the bottom of the this problem. Meanwhile, I am eating on plan and not losing. I haven't been able to walk because of the weather. Okay, later! HUGS to all my buddies!

I hope y'all don't mind me jumping on this thread. I live in the Houston area. We started having cool fronts about three weeks ago. That is when my problems started. I ache like I have the flu, and I have pain in my abdomen where I have had surgeries. I also started having IBS which I haven't had in years. Could this be Fibromyalgia? I do have Hoshimoto's thyroditis. I am going to the endocrinologist on the 22nd for a thyroid check. Is there a blood test for this? I do get relief at night if I take Tylenol and a xanax, but I am miserable in the mornings and evenings. Now, this isn't everyday. Just when the weather changes. Thanks for starting this thread.

Lori, you will do good. Just make sure you have a chair you can get in and out of. When my DH has his knees done all we had were low couches and rocker recliners. We ended up buying a lift chair since he had to go through two surgeries. Take care and I will be praying for you. Janet, the weather in Houston was in the 80's today, but I think it will be cool this coming weekend. Praying for you too!

Join the club. I journal my food. If I don't........I eat everything in sight. Even those with bypass have the same problem a year after the surgery. They just don't absorb all their calories. Hopefully, you can get a fill and get back on the bandwagon.

My doctor's goal for me was 800 in the weight loss phase. I just haven't reached that kind of restriction yet. Well, I reached it, but kept pbing so they took it out. I am just journaling and hoping to lose it that way. The band helps with the hunger, but it hasn't done the magic I was hoping for. He warned me that is was just a tool, and I had to work really hard.

I hope you feel better today! Yeah, 1300calories is a bummer. I knew it was slow, but geez........no wonder I am a ton of fun. I think it is due to taking blood pressure med, hypothyroidism, and just a sendentary lifestyle. The things I due don't require a lot of physical work. So, this week I am going to double my exercise time, and stay faithful to the 1200 calories a day. I think I won't weigh till next friday. The nutritionist said weighing everyday is not good. Okay, July Butterflies, lets try checking in. If you have any good recipes please share.

Eva, That test just proved to me that I have a very slow metabolism. It revealed how many calories I needed to eat in order to lose. With the right restriction I believe 1200 is doable. Arlene

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Everyday is a new day to get back on track. I have not lost weight in several months.......well, I lost two lbs last month. I started going to a nutritionist at the Dr's office. Today I took the test where you breathe into a machine for 10 minutes and it reads your resting metablolism. Mine is 1300 calories a day. If I exercise it is 1500 calories a day to maintain my loss. In order to lose I need to eat 1200 calories a day. I am glad I took the test. Now I know why I haven't been losing. So, if you are a slow loser start by journaling. You will surprised at the amount of calories you are eating. Then slowly cut back starting with empty carbs. Add good protein snacks. All this info came from the nutritionist. Janet has preached the same thing on this thread. Hang in there! Be proud of your 40lb loss! -
I had the test. I breathed into a machine for about 10 minutes. The machine said that I burn 1300calories a day resting. With exercise(walking) I maintain my weight with about 1500calories a day. I need to eat 1200 calories a day to lose 1lb a week. At that rate I will reach my goal by January 2011. So, I am in for the long haul. This is a lifestyle change. Right? I did not get a fill because I have had IBS. My gut is hurting from adhesions. I think the arthritis in my back is causing this. I may get a tweak next month then I will be good till January.
-
Okay, here is the scoop on the metabolism blow test. I blew into this machine for about 10 minutes. Well, I just had my nose pinched off and breathed into the machine. I have a 1300calorie a day resting rate. With light exercise I can eat 1500calories a day to maintain. To lose 1lb a week I need to eat 1200 calories a day. So, I am in it for the long haul. I can do this! I did ask about my pain. It is probably arthritis coming from my back and causing the adhesions to spasm. She did not give me a fill because I have had reflux and she said that does swell the band. So, I will go back next month maybe for a tweak and should be done for awhile. Oh , she did tell me to only weigh once a week. Janet, you should be a nutritionist. You said 800-1200 a day and exercise, exercise, exercise. Your advice was free, she charged me. I would recommend this test.
-
Yeah, Lori, I want your address too! I am feeling better today. The weather is cooler , but the adhesions have settled down.....I just have joint pain. I do that blow test tomorrow to measure my metabolism. I will check in. Y'all have a great day!
-
Laura, I had my gallbladder out in 1990. Tylenol helps. The weather thing makes me think it might be auto immune. I do have thyroiditis from time to time. In fact, my thyroid was swollen two weeks ago. Anyway, we will see.
-
Apples, thanks, now I don't feel crazy. I too have had several colon sugeries, two of which were for adhesions causing obstructions. I was reading that fibromyalgia can cause that kind of pain. Anyway, I will get my thyroid doc to check it out. Again, thanks!

Julie, I am so sorry you are in so much pain. I haven't read posts lately, but I take it that it is your back. I have herniated disks in my back and I have had epidural cortisone shots several time. They do help. I have a new pain that maybe one of y'all can help with. Okay I live in Texas where the weather is 90 for many months. Last week we had our first weather change. My upper abdomen started aching. The weather warmed up and it stopped. Now, today, we are getting our first cool front. My abdomen started aching last night, and this morning I have alot of acid reflux along with IBS. Has anyone had this happen? I know this is adhesions, but I didn't know weather would kick in the pain. I am going to see Dr. Davis on thursday. Maybe I need some GI tests to make sure I don't have errosion. OKay! Enough whining........I will let y'all know what he said. Oh he is going to be on The Doctor's on the 24th talking about weight loss surgery. Julie, I hope you get relief soon. I will pray for you.
-
Orea, I second that. Check in and let us know what is going on. I hope you feel better soon!

Janet, I am here. Nothing to report. Still walking, journaling, and try to stay around 1000 calories, but I haven't done so good in that department. I still eat 1100-1200calories. I know I need to make different choices. Have you eaten the Smart Ones with fruit in them? I love them and the protein is near 20g. I think that after a year the ole metablolism is at a crawl. I am a little frustrated. I can't wait to go get the metabolism test done. Meanwhile, I bought DH some 2x shirts( down from 3x) and they are loose. He has gone down 2 pant sizes. I am so glad he had gastric bypass. He feels so good. It is so much easier to stay on plan when the whole house is eating the same way. Okay, girl.........that's all for today! I will be checking in.
-
Amen! We will just keep on this thread. Later!
-
I think our metabolisms have slowed. From being on the thread with those that have lost post their goals I notice they are very active. They are religious about exercise and they don't cheat on their food. So, with me.......it's a mental thing. Do you think we ought to start a thread for July Butterfly slow losers? Just to keep in touch. Okay, I am going to the store to get some Tilapia. I love that stuff. Let's all continue to journal our food. If we have a suggestion or a recipe to cut calories and boost protein...........let's share. You are not a jester! You can be a princess too, but I am in line for Queen! lol
-
Okay, Queeny..........you can have the title, but I am the princess!

As you know, I have been stuck for months too. You know, my friend that had gastric bypass when I got lap band quit losing about the same time. Now, she lost 122lbs because she has malabsorption..........and I lost 70. She reached her goal and am half way through. I have heard that as we lose our body's metabolism slows. I have been on a 1000calorie diet for two weeks. Yes, I usually eat1200 a day, but I have only lost 2lbs. I am frustrated, but not defeated. I go next week for the test where I blow into the machine for my metabolic rate. I am really interested in knowing how many calories I need to eat to lose. There has got to be an answer for this weight loss stall.

Janet.........no he doesn't do fluor fills. I am feeling much better this morning. I had cream of wheat and decaf coffee. If I have another episode like yesterday I will get some tests done. My gut tells me it is adhesions. I go to the thyroid dr next month to rule out hypothyrodism. Thanks to all of you for being my lap band support. Also, thanks for letting my vent my concerns.

I use Livestrong.com on my laptop and iphone. I think it is the same as dailyplate.com -
We have a Saeco Spidem. I just make one cup of coffee in the morning and my husband makes his latte. It has more than paid for itself. Look on ebay. Might get a good price for a machine.
