  1. My NUT says, 64 ounces of fliuds is ideal, but 40 will keep you out of the ER.
  2. I admire fans in cities with more than one choice, who STICK to their teams and don't just root for the flavor of the month. Congrats!
  3. Oh Lord, sorry to hear that, glad it's being taken care of.

Hang in there. This is the hardest time. It gets better.

    Male Post Op Advice

Dr. Weiner says head hunger = addiction. You know it's addiction when you are craving just one food. Real hunger means just about anything will satisfy. I am in the process of trying to find a therapist. I struggle with the same thing that you do.
  7. My NUT says 64 oz. is the goal (including protein shakes), but 40 oz. will keep you out of the hospital.

    One year flies by...

    Thanks for the inspiration!
  9. Excellent explanation, that makes a lot of sense, thanks!
  10. Any nurses out there or someone who might know? When I'm eating and my sleeve is just about full, my nose starts to run. I'm not the only person to report this as I've seen many people on here comment about it. It seems so weird to me (although it is a helpful indicator I do confess). All the times I ate past satiety with my natural stomach I never ever experienced this. I'm just curious what the metaphysical explanation for this might be? Why does it happen? And why does it only happen after surgery?

    Regret

I'm sorry you're having a rough time (at life)- I've been there too... It looks like you've lost a ton of weight and I'm sure your health is better. I would advise you just to stick with it and things will get better. Prayers up for you sister.

    After Surgery Taste Issues

I have, it works fine. Watch the sugar, though.
  13. I notice a consistent pattern regarding my ability to eat solids. I am almost 5 weeks out. No matter how little I put on my plate- if I am able to go as slow as I should and listen to my body, I can NEVER finish it in one sitting. I'm supposed to be up to 3 ounces now but most times I still put 2 ounces on my plate. Whether I put 2 or 3 ounces on my plate, there is ALWAYS a small quantity of food left after a meal (so unusual for me- since I was a small child my grandfather's "make a clean plate or you won't get custard" always rings in my ears). And what's funny is, it's usually the same amount remaining! (Is this psychosomatic?) If I clean my plate now, I almost always will have to spit up the little extra amount. The other thing is, to be honest, outside of my head hunger, if I had my choice I'd still be back on the previous phase or protein shakes and purees. It is just easier to process, still. Is this an indication that the swelling in my pouch is a little bit behind in the healing process? Should I go with this feeling or do I have to "tough through" the process with solids so it will get better? Or am I just pushing myself too hard? It's always the same with solids. I am tremendously excited about eating them when I am hungry, followed by a very faint nausea about half way through the eating process, followed sometimes by about a 15 minute process of debating whether I need to throw up or not (usually not). With liquids or purees or Ricotta cheese this never happens. Thoughts?
  14. Thanks again to everyone in these forums for all of your posts and inspiration. Even if I don't respond often I read just about every post here and it's been very helpful for me in my journey. I was sleeved June 12. I feel like I am doing very, very well with my weight loss (56.4 pounds since the beginning of my liquid diet and 36.4 pounds since my sleeve). I am able to walk for short periods every single day on my treadmill. When I started this journey I was unable to even stand (let alone walk) for more than a couple of minutes without being EXHAUSTED- so I can already see a difference and I am VERY grateful for the changes to my body that have already occurred. I am towards the end of my puree phase (three more days). I have experimented with some things like eating chicken. Sometimes it's OK, sometimes it's not. It seems like the more challenging the texture, the less I can eat (this seems normal, right?). I am able to eat pureed chili from Wendy's (even though I'm not supposed to be eating beans or red meat yet)- this is one of my favorite meals at the moment. And even though I'm not supposed to eat potatoes at all until I've lost 75% of my weight, I have gone twice to Popeye's to get just mashed potatoes. It goes down easily even though I imagine it must impede my weight loss somewhat (but I'm eating VERY small quantities...) I feel like it's better to indulge myself in very small quantities than to feel like my diet is too draconian. I also got caught out and about without my protein shake (forgot it at home) so I got 4 chicken nuggets from McDonalds and handled those without any issues. The biggest issue I face right now (and I apologize if this may sound like whining) despite my relative success is the fact that I am just about ALWAYS hungry! I was hopeful that this "honeymoon" period that was described to me in regards to the limited production of gherlin would be a little more helpful than I feel like it has been. Honestly it doesn't feel a whole lot different from the pre-op liquid diet, other than the fact that I am now physically restricted and I can't drink unlimited portions of broth or even substantial quantities of cream soups when I feel the need to have something in large quantities. I find myself trying to "cheat" my food scale and eat 2.5 ounces instead of 2 ounces- and my body just about always puts the kabosh on that (I have thrown up from overeating three or four times). Maybe things will be different when my quantities are up to 4 ounces of protein and I can eat some vegetables or something- but right now it is psychologically difficult. I feel pretty sure that I am a food addict (specifically carbs) and I realize the psychological component of this is strong for me, but it feels so weird and is so difficult for me to reckon that my pouch is full when my head feels it hasn't even begun the meal yet!!! (and yes, I'm eating as slowly and in as small of a quantity as I can!) Does anyone else who went through this have any tips for me? Like I said, I follow the rules mostly because my body won't really let me break them at the moment, but it's not easy. Thanks for listening and sorry for the whining. Best of luck to you all in your journey!

    Rice/pasta alternatives

Wow, just made some zoodles, in tomato sauce. Absolutely outstanding. Scratched that pasta itch! I didn't blanche them for a minute as recommended, I sauteed them for a very short time in olive oil. That left them still a little tiny bit crunchy. I could have put some protein powder in the sauce but I didn't, as I've already met my protein goals for the day. This will be a big go-to for me in the future. High recommendation!

    Rice/pasta alternatives

I got mine the other day and will try it today or tomorrow. I'm excited about this! Go zoodles! Otherwise I've heard of this thing called Miracle noodles, but the reviews on Amazon are not good.

    Starting to get excited.

I fired mine too- he ripped me off with the pre-op blood work, and turns out, I found a MUCH better doctor. God works in mysterious ways...

My doc uses this number as well. I found it weird- I actually never counted, but I felt like my urine was OK.

    After Surgery Taste Issues

I still like all of them just as much (which is good since I bought WAY too much for pre-op) but where Chocolate was my least favorite pre-op, it is now my most favorite. (PS- don't throw these shakes away if you can't drink them anymore, send them my way!)
  22. That's a good point. My NUT told me not to add veggies until week 6. But it makes sense that the reason I struggle is that I'm eating all protein right now.
  23. Well see that's what's weird about it. I weigh out 3 ounces, can't finish it. So the next time I weigh out 2 ounces, STILL can't finish it, the same amount of food is left as when I weighed out 3 ounces. I wonder what would happen if I weigh out 1 ounce, hmmm...

    Vitamins

The Celebrate chewable bariatric vitamins I take, specify that they need to be spaced out at least two hours. I have to take them four times a day.
