Chronic Nausea with solids
gwbicster replied to Discocactus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through a phase of this. Thank God (knock on wood) it seems to be subsiding a bit. My surgeon said that this is my sleeve sending me a "signal" since I don't get that full belly feeling I used to before surgery. He said as the swelling goes down it will go away, and it has! -
July loss competitive spirit
gwbicster replied to Mersh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally would be against this. Everyone loses at their own pace, and your body will respond to the surgery in its own way. But, to each their own. -

Why can't we swallow pills whole????
gwbicster replied to Marissa C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ER= extended release. I also take Metoprolol ER. Even though mine has the same directive, it is scored in the middle, meaning that you can break it in two along the score line without problems. I did this in the beginning after surgery however I no longer need to. -
Why can't we swallow pills whole????
gwbicster replied to Marissa C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had pills I could swallow whole and larger ones I couldn't. My Metformin I still can't swallow, and can't keep it down if I crush it either, so I am off of it until week 12 when we'll try again. Be very careful about crushing ER versions of pills- that could lead to an overdose. Ask your pharmicist to be sure. -
Premier Protein!
gwbicster replied to UnicornsAndGlittah's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I loved the banana and caramel best before surgery. I could tolerate chocolate and vanilla, and hadn't tried strawberry. After surgery I like chocolate the best, still like banana and caramel (just have gotten a bit sick of them), like strawberry, and will not eat vanilla (except for the few I drank just to finish them up). -
JULY SLEEVERS- How are you doing?

How are you eating 8 ounces of food two weeks after surgery? That should be more like 2 . -
So what does everyone eat?
gwbicster replied to TooneyNinosMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOVE Zoodles! Sauteed with chopped celery and a little bit of ground beef and marinara sauce with protein powder. Pecorino Romano on top. Yummers! -

Surgery with Dr. Mario Almanza
gwbicster replied to gastricvictim's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So much wrong here. First of all, you speak of WLS as the easy way out, yet you mention suicide. Please... (smh...) Anyways, for the vast majority of us who need it, this surgery is NOT a mistake. You started your journey with a BMI of only 38. This is definitely on the borderline and it was your surgeon's responsibility to mention that this might not be appropriate surgery for someone like you. If there is any fault it is with the surgeon. You are still in the "honeymoon phase" where you can't eat much and the weight falls off you. Since you had this surgery as a moderately obese person and have lost fast, you are already at or below goal. There are things you can do to slow your weight loss until your stomach (naturally) stretches. It will never get back to the size it was, but could stretch to be able twice the size it is now. Drink your calories. There are liquids and slider foods (crackers, potato chips, others that turn into a "slurry" and go right through your pouch) that people use to "cheat" the sleeve. If you are truly unhappy that you are thin and healthy, you could do this. I think the bigger issue here is that, you are a food addict like many of us, and have used food your whole life to deal with stress. The recent tragic events in your life have overwhelmed you and the fact that you can no longer turn to food is short circuiting your brain. Please see a professional and try to work out this issue- it is a big one! I feel for you because I am exactly the same position with my addiction. I'm working on it, but I realize it will take some time to overcome this life long struggle. I can do this- and so can you!!! -
I find it odd that a doctor would set a specific weight goal. Everyone loses at their own pace. Don't let this discourage you.

What was the biggest surprise for you at or after surgery? What do you wish you had known?
gwbicster replied to sunmeadow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Because many of us were so morbidly obese (mine was over 50) that it makes sense that we would lose quickly. Please don't compare yourself to people like me. I was near death's door and have much more to lose than you in general. You are doing great- just work the plan and I PROMISE you it will work. -
The Omeprazol REALLY helped me a lot.

Post-OP PILLS??????
gwbicster replied to Seamehyde's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc's plan is zero carbs until I've lost 75% of my weight. I do have an occasional 1/2 cup serving of Cream of Wheat once or twice a week. My sugar was much, much higher (out of control) even with all the meds so I'm very happy where I'm at. That was the primary reason I had the surgery actually. -
Post-OP PILLS??????
gwbicster replied to Seamehyde's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sugar is never above 150. My surgeon says unless it goes over 200 I can get away without the Metformin. My PCP wants me back on it ASAP. I agree with my PCP but it's a matter of logistics. Even when I crush it I can't tolerate it. I have managed to get off of three other diabetes meds however. Those were the "bad" (and expensive) ones. -

Post-OP PILLS??????
gwbicster replied to Seamehyde's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 weeks out I can swallow everything except my huge Metformin pill. Fortunately my sugar is in a reasonable range, so my PCP says I can wait until week 12 to try again. -
Please help...soft foods phase
gwbicster replied to shazwott13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. I'm no doctor, but it seems a little strange to drink a protein shake while you eat. Apple good tip about drinking water after drinking the shake- I try to avoid that too but I guess technically it should be OK. Same with broths/soups I guess. -
Old clothes? What did you do?

For any of you that listen to the WLS Podcast, Reeger always says "you have to be willing to let the old you die" to succeed at WLS.
