    Fasting insulin?

I'm not sure what those numbers mean but some full on diabetic people have bariatric surgery to correct their diabetes. My surgeon has performed a BPD/DS (Billialpancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch) on patients that were of a normal BMI but were completely out of control of their diabetes. You should be fine to have your surgery with those numbers.

    Swimwear

I love swimsuits-for-all! I was going to mention the site if no one else did. @@jenn1 : I would try a swimsuit with a halter top. They tend to keep my big girls in check.
  3. Hi Evenya, how soon did you wear it after surgery? Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App I haven't had my surgery yet. My guess is that it will be in November? I'm considering getting the binder to help with the pain while walking. I've heard it helps but I wanted more input from others.

how long does the process take?

I guess it depends on your insurance company or if your self pay. I'm self pay and I started the process on July 21st and I think I'll have my surgery in about 6-8 weeks. It's not scheduled yet. Sent from my SPH-D710VMUB using the BariatricPal App

    Ideas for exercise

You can always get one of those foot pedallers, put it on a table and use it to exercise your arms. I've seen them as cheap as $20. Sent from my SPH-D710VMUB using the BariatricPal App

    We're we told.....

I would ask you bariatric team if you could have an ablation of your uterus. You'll no longer have a period and you will still have your ovaries to continue producing hormones. That is, of course, if you plan on not ever having children. Sent from my SPH-D710VMUB using the BariatricPal App

My PCP "doesn't care about me"

Thank you all for your advice! I truely appreciate it. :-)
  11. Not me, since I haven't had my surgery yet, but this lady I was talking to at my handspinners guild told me she had WLS. This was only after the lady I was talking to before introduced me to her and then eventually walked away. She did not feel comfortable talking in front of a thin person who was never obese about her WLS. She tells these people that it's a special diet that is medically supervised (which is true), but never admits to them that she had an elective surgery to lose weight. She told me that these thin-never-fat-before people think WLS is done for cosmetic reasons, so it's just easier to lie by omittion. She felt more comfortable telling overweight and obese people about her WLS because they are more likely to understand her reasons for doing so.

    Pre op liquid diet?

I'm having the BPD/DS and my doctor wants me on an 800 calorie diet for 4 weeks before surgery. I don't know if it's liquid or not. I hope not! I do know I have to do a colon prep though. I've had a colonoscopy done last October, so I know it sucks! Sent from my SPH-D710VMUB using the BariatricPal App
  13. I would like to hear what is good to bring with you to the hospital. I heard that you should bring throat spray, mouth moisturizer (like Biotene), anti-gas meds, boredom busters (like puzzles or a Kindle), and loose clothing. Is there anything else you would suggest? Getting started/keeping motivated

I have a stationary bike in front of my television. I get on it and pedal during my favorite program. Also, I made a chart. Each day that I exercise for 30 minutes, I give myself a gold star. Childish? A little, but it works for me. Plus my family sees the chart too, so I'm held accountable for my exercise. Sent from my SPH-D710VMUB using the BariatricPal App
