You are miserable for the first 3 days or so after the operation, then get better. I found the c section to be worse in terms of pain, also I had zero appetite for a month or so after vsg so it was easy to stick to a healthy liquid diet. Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App

Made veggie juice and it helped: cucumbers, celery, green apple, fresh basil was one of my favourite combos Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App

Before W.L.S. and after W.L.S.
linah replied to northstar9148's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely prep, I made bone broth and froze portions before the op as well as bought 0 fat individual yoghurt pots and Protein puddings. You will be able to drive a week or so after the operation but you won't be comfortable and it's better to have everything sorted and not need it than to have to run around while you are in pain. Once your body recovers you might notice an increase in bleeding the first 2 days but a decrease in the amount of days you have your period. I used to have very bad cramping, it got a lot better after I gave birth so I can't judge regarding the effects of the operation on it. Glad it's helping you so far though :-) Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App

Tips to minimize saggy skin before/after WLS
linah replied to Honeybee17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very much agree with Hammer_Down. Natural fats such as in butter and full fat milk are very important to maintain skin health and elasticity. Just have them in reasonable quantities. Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App -
I think you need to consult a specialist for internal medicine to figure out what went wrong, your situation is not normal and very dangerous. Hope you recover soon. Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App

You have to eat very slowly and stop if the food starts bothering you, if you eat too quickly and the food doesn't agree with you, you will suffer. Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App

Hi, I had the Gastric Sleeve op on Aug 5 2016. So far I'm very happy with it, recovery has been good and I'm down 10.7 kgs so far. My issue is I make special occasions cakes, Cookies and sweets for a living. Does anyone else work in a (risky for us) food related industry? Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App -
Question for hiatal hernia people
linah replied to Ragdollorchid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had hiatal hernia repair same time as the sleeve surgery on August 5. No issues from the hernia repair whatsoever, just general pain and recovery from the operation itself. No shoulder or neck pain though. Good luck Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App -

Alhamdulillah, all is well ????, 7 weeks post op, loving the sleeve so far. My sleep apnea is pretty much gone, I haven't slept so well in years so feeling great and my skin is looking much better. food wise I'm comfortable, in the solid food stage, before the operation I was afraid that I would be starving and not able to eat but I'm satisfied with the amount of food I'm getting and feeling happy. Need to start working out though I'm being very lazy ????. Started getting rid of my biggest size clothing as they are very loose now and that feels great ????. Lol! It's not been as bad as I thought it would be, I do have to taste test to make sure everything is up to standard but I'm not getting my old cravings of having a whole cupcake or cake slice. I think that the "grazing" every 2-3 hours also helps since I'm not getting the energy crash I used to get around four in the afternoon where I would have to hunt down anything with sugar. I am getting more salty food cravings hough. Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App -

Hi everyone, is there an option to test how acceptable a recipe is for WLS patients? if yes, is there a way to add a recipe to the web site? Thanks and all the best :-)

I can start off if you like :-) I made something my family and I really enjoyed today: Middle Eastern style Blue Crabs: rinse crabs, snip off eyes. For 1 kg crabs, in a large pot add 2 quartered red onions and spices: 4 bay leaves, zest of two lemons (peel using a vegetable peeler make sure you only use the yellow part as the white will make it bitter), 2-3 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp all spice, 1/2 tsp cardamom powder, 1/2 tsp ginger powder, 1/2 tsp loomy powder (petrified limes, if not available, can omit). Add room temp Water till 1/3 of the pot, bring to a boil and let boil around 15 minutes. Add crabs facing down, let boil then simmer covered till crab shells turn orange- takes around 20 minutes to cook completely- turn off the heat, remove crabs and consume immediately. Reserve stock for Soup ???? Sent from my SM-G900FD using the BariatricPal App

Sure ????, for the hummus: 1 can chickpeas, discard can Water, boil in clean water for 5 minutes , discard water, boil again in clean water for 5 minutes, strain. Put chickpeas in a food processor with 2 cloves garlic, process, add 1/2 cup tahineh, 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1/4 cup olive oil, 1-2 tsp salt as per your taste, process again, add 5 cubes of ice, process again till ice has all melted, done. Bone broth is very easy. You can use any bones you like (beef, lamb, chicken etc, if using fish, you need to add the head). Wash the bones (rinse to remove blood etc but no need to remove fat or meat), place in a pot with 1/3 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg/ 1/2 tsp cardamom, 1 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp allspice, 1/2 tsp ground ginger, 3 bay leaves, 2-3 quartered red onions, 2 stalks celery. Add enough water to just cover, set heat to medium high. The tricky part is to not let it fully boil. It has to boil just enough that you will notice a dark foam forming on top, this has to be skimmed off or it will make the broth taste gamey and look cloudy. Any fat will also rise and can be skimmed off now or removed after solidifying in the fridge. Keep skimming the froth till it turns white then you can cover the pot and allow it to fully boil them simmer for 1 hour (if making fish broth, do not boil for more than 1/2 hour maximum). At that point taste the broth, adjust spices and add your aromatics (fresh parsley, thyme, coriander, basil, whatever you like) boil for another 5 minutes then strain into a new pot so you only have the broth left. Just realized how long this post is, sorry but I like to be very thorough in giving recipes :-). After the broth cools , refrigerate then remove fat once it solidifies and you can freeze for up to 3 months. If using immediately, add whatever veggies you like, add enough that the water barely covers them otherwise soup will be too thin once you puree. Boil till soft, puree, adjust spices, enjoy. I've been having the 0 fat Elle & Vire yoghurt and no issue. I am allowed hummus as well and make my own, no issue there either, I can give you the recipe if you are interested. I am allowed a boiled egg, I chop it up finely and eat it with some of the hummus, also not bothering my stomach. Otherwise I'm mostly having pureed Soup, I make a bone broth, sieve it, add the veggies then puree once they're soft. No issues with veggie or lentil soup. It helps to get a scale that gives the fat vs muscle percentage, even if the number on the scale doesn't move, I'll notice my fat %age going down while the muscle goes up :-) -

linah replied to linah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Lol! Yeah, I know what you mean, the good thing for me is that once I know how to make a particular sweet, I tend to lose my craving for it because I know I can always just make some for myself :-) . I had an order last week for a mixed vanilla choc sponge with choc buttercream and I was basically chasing my family around the kitchen to get them to taste test. First week of sept will be difficult as I have mixed orders for cake, cupcakes and Cookies.... we'll see how it goes. All the best :-)
