Happy Labor Day everyone! My procedure is tomorrow morning at 7am. I have to be at the hospital at 5. I am so incredibly nervous! I haven't told anyone that I'm having wls so I don't really have anyone to talk to about it. I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be. I know I won't be able to sleep so I will be preparing meals for my family for the rest of the week and cleaning the house tonight. I have 5 kids so I'm actually looking forward to being away for a day. I can't wait to see the new me! Female NC HW:280 HT:5'9" VSG:9/6/16

Great morning all! I had my VSG this past Tuesday. I feel great. I am having a bit of a hard time getting all the Water and Protein in but swallowing is getting easier so I'm sure I will be fine. I wanted to share with you all what seems to be my biggest struggle so far. I have a large family. 5 children and their dad. I came home from the hospital on Wednesday afternoon and since I purchased food they could prepare themselves I didn't have to even go into the kitchen. I planned to prepare meals ahead of time but they didn't want to reheat food. Yesterday, my daughter asked for real food. I wasn't sore or tired at all so I proceeded to prepare dinner for everyone. I made baked ziti with tossed salad and garlic bread. They DEVOURED it. I sat in the family room and watched tv while they ate. After my son cleaned the kitchen and they all found a spot to get cozy and said thanks so much mom. That was delicious! I felt so disconnected from them. We typically eat dinner together and I hadn't realized how important this was to me until I wasn't able to. Is anyone else struggling with this? What do you do while your family is enjoying a meal? I think I may plan to take a walk after dinner is served. Is it hard to cook something for your family and enjoy your water and protein? Also, is it me or does it seem like food commercials are on twice as much and look twice as good? I've been looking for new vsg friendly recipes to try when I am able to eat. Please tell me I'm not the only one!! Female NC HW:280 HT:5'9" VSG:9/6/16

I initially decided not to tell anyone. Then on the day I was given a surgery date I told my oldest daughter(19). I read that if I ended up in the ER, it's important for them to know I had wls. I felt like she could handle telling the appropriate parties in the event of an emergency. The day after my procedure, I told my closest friend. She was 100% supportive and I wish I had told her sooner. I had an epigastric hernia repair before and had a hiatal hernia repaired along with the VSG. Outside of my daughter and my friend, all anyone else knows is that I had a hiatal hernia repair. My advise would be to feel people out first. I feel like I may have less supportive people in my life than most do so I can't say that my way is right. It's a very personal choice that you will be living with so be careful who you share the details with. Female NC HW:280 HT:5'9" VSG:9/6/16

Abdominal Binders ...did you use one?
ChocolateDropp7 replied to ALittleMe0914's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked for it and was told they weren't used because of the risk of infection and friction on the incision sites. I wish I still had my old one. Gravity isn't my friend right now. A little support would help a lot. Female NC HW:280 HT:5'9" VSG:9/6/16 -
I hope all went well for you today! I will be going home later. Female NC HW:280 HT:5'9" VSG:9/6/16

VSG & hernia repair

I am wondering the same thing. I was told that the hernia repair shouldn't prolong recovery. We shall see I guess. Female NC HW:280 HT:5'9" VSG:9/6/16 -

Pending Insurance Approval....
ChocolateDropp7 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great Afternoon! I went into this process thinking it would take months to complete. It has been surprisingly easy and now that my file will be submitted to the insurance company for approval Monday, I'm getting anxious. My procedure could be done as early as the first week of September. I plan to buy all the shakes, broth, and Jello, ect. this week. I am going to start my liquid diet next week. I don't have any local support during this process as I haven't told anyone that I've decided to do it. I also have to have a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time(adding to my anxiety). I will be relying heavily on this app to connect with like minded people. Good luck everyone! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
