    Struggles

Great morning all! I had my VSG this past Tuesday. I feel great. I am having a bit of a hard time getting all the Water and Protein in but swallowing is getting easier so I'm sure I will be fine. I wanted to share with you all what seems to be my biggest struggle so far. I have a large family. 5 children and their dad. I came home from the hospital on Wednesday afternoon and since I purchased food they could prepare themselves I didn't have to even go into the kitchen. I planned to prepare meals ahead of time but they didn't want to reheat food. Yesterday, my daughter asked for real food. I wasn't sore or tired at all so I proceeded to prepare dinner for everyone. I made baked ziti with tossed salad and garlic bread. They DEVOURED it. I sat in the family room and watched tv while they ate. After my son cleaned the kitchen and they all found a spot to get cozy and said thanks so much mom. That was delicious! I felt so disconnected from them. We typically eat dinner together and I hadn't realized how important this was to me until I wasn't able to. Is anyone else struggling with this? What do you do while your family is enjoying a meal? I think I may plan to take a walk after dinner is served. Is it hard to cook something for your family and enjoy your water and protein? Also, is it me or does it seem like food commercials are on twice as much and look twice as good? I've been looking for new vsg friendly recipes to try when I am able to eat. Please tell me I'm not the only one!! Female NC HW:280 HT:5'9" VSG:9/6/16

    Who to tell?

Yes, it makes all the sense in the world. I think your response is perfect. I may just say the same if asked! Female NC HW:280 HT:5'9" VSG:9/6/16

    Who to tell?

I initially decided not to tell anyone. Then on the day I was given a surgery date I told my oldest daughter(19). I read that if I ended up in the ER, it's important for them to know I had wls. I felt like she could handle telling the appropriate parties in the event of an emergency. The day after my procedure, I told my closest friend. She was 100% supportive and I wish I had told her sooner. I had an epigastric hernia repair before and had a hiatal hernia repaired along with the VSG. Outside of my daughter and my friend, all anyone else knows is that I had a hiatal hernia repair. My advise would be to feel people out first. I feel like I may have less supportive people in my life than most do so I can't say that my way is right. It's a very personal choice that you will be living with so be careful who you share the details with. Female NC HW:280 HT:5'9" VSG:9/6/16

Abdominal Binders ...did you use one?

I asked for it and was told they weren't used because of the risk of infection and friction on the incision sites. I wish I still had my old one. Gravity isn't my friend right now. A little support would help a lot. Female NC HW:280 HT:5'9" VSG:9/6/16
