Doc says, "It won't work unless you make a lifestyle change"

Not judging you, just wondering if there was a particular reason for indulging. You have done an amazing job and you should be proud. I'm proud for you. Hope I do as well. Janet -
I feel so Lucky---March 17th - St. Patrick's Day
Sweet_pea_2 replied to SpecialK's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't wait until Monday! I have to report to the hospital here in Shreveport, Louisiana bright and early at 5:30 AM. Dr. William Norwood is my awesome surgeon. Since I didn't have a pre-op diet to follow I will enjoy "the last supper" tomorrow night. (Sat.) with my family before being on Clear liquids all day on Sunday. I wish all of you St. Patties Day bandsters the best of luck. Janet:party::angry_smile: -

shinyhappymommy, Brownie and muffin? Why would you eat those things only a month after the band. Just wondering. I don't get it. -

So far you seem to be the one with the best insight into the problem. I find it hard to imagine how anyone could have this type of surgery but not be willing to do the work to make sure it works. My surgery is on Monday. I am looking forward to a life that doesn't revolve around food. There are too many fun things to do to be being bogged down by food and a fat body. When I feel what I think is hunger I plan to take a walk or do some yoga or phone a friend or say a prayer. My mind set is that I need this lap band to get me headed in the right direction. Once I get the hang of it I'm taking over the wheel and letting this band guide me home. I fully expect to lose 100-120 pounds by the end of this year. It won't be because the lap band did it for me. It will be because I want this bad enough to do everything that I can do to make it work for me like it's supposed to. That includes working out every single day and following the plan even in moments of weakness. I can't say that I will be perfect but I plan on working really hard and I won't fail. I lost 160 pounds about 12 years ago and kept it off for 6 years. I did it with shear determination, a plan, a focus and a goal. It was effortless because I wanted it bad enough to make it happen. Things happened in my life that caused me to lose focus of what is important like taking care of myself. Here I am with all of that weight back plus an additonal 20 pounds. I'm 50 now...not 38 and I need this lap band this time to help me get the initial weight off so that my poor tired strained joints will have some relief so that I can exercise myself into a stupor....LOL. This may sound crazy but I am SICK of eating....sick of feeling bogged down and lazy. Feeling light on my feet again and agile is what I am looking forward to. I wish you all the very best of luck. This battle has to be fought from the inside out. It's not enough to want to lose weight. You have to be willing to walk the walk......for a lifetime. Janet:wub: -

AKA Janeth5 I did all my pre-op stuff today and paid my money for the lap band. T minus 6 days and counting. Monday is the day and I am stoked and ready! I appreciate the kindness you all have shown even though I am hard headed and still cannot believe that people can "cheat" or give in to temptation so early on in this process. I've researched this procedure and I am aware that the weight loss is slow and steady. However: mine will be steady but not slow. The reason being is because I'll be doing cardio exercises for several hours a day because I have the time. My husband is a health nut who runs and works out every day. My children are grown and my husband eats healthy. We won't have junk food around for temptation but even if we did I wouldn't eat it because I have made a decision to change my life....not just be on a diet and lose weight. As a former health nut myself...I know what's it's like to be on an adrenalin high from being in shape and body building. I know how good it feels to be in great shape because I've been there and stayed there for several years. Yes, I gained the weight back because I lost sight of what was important which was taking care of myself so that I could be there to take care of the one's I love. Instead I neglected myself until I was out of control. I'm at an important place in my life. My son who is in prison is HIV positive and has been for 2 years. He went into prison at 15 and has been there almost 15 years. He recently had labwork drawn and must start on HIV meds. I have faith that he will be released someday even though he is serving 2 consecutive life sentences. I WILL be alive and healthy when he comes home to me. For those of you who think I am full of it.....oh well.....I can't control how you feel nor does it really matter to me. I guess what I'm trying to convey is that we all have reasons and motivation for doing what we do. Some of us want it and some of us want it bad enough to do everything we have to do to achieve it. I think you know by now which type I am. I just spoke to my sweet son Jason awhile ago. He calls me from the Louisiana State Penitentairy at Angola almost every night like he has for the past 15 years. He is probably the most excited for me. That alone is worth the moments of weakness and the hunger pangs I may have to endure. Thank you again for being around to read this long dramatic emails. Janet:wub: -
This is me on the right. Was taken Feb 07 at my parents 50th anniversary party. I'm probably 10-15 pounds heavier now.

I put a picture of myself on here but it's HUGE! How do I make the picture smaller? Anyone know? Thanks!:blushing:

What did you eat today?
Sweet_pea_2 replied to Sherry L.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My band date is March 17th. My doctor has a very disiplined regime. I went to my nutrition class last week which included only information about what I am allowed to have for the first 2 weeks. After surgery I will attend another nutrition class along with the psychologist for instructions on the 2nd 2 weeks. The only thing I am allowed to have for the first 14 days is 3 cartons of either Boost, Glucerna (low carb) and 64 oz. of Water per day. During all waking hours I have to sip every 15 minutes until I get all of the requirements in. I am not allowed any broths, crystal lites or anything else. No coffee or tea, no gum or breath mints. I feel great about this plan because I know I'm getting the proper nutritional requirements to meet my needs. I'm concerned that what some of you seem to be taking in isn't healthy enough to sustain you and keep you feeling full and energized. I've been going to a local support group with people who have already been banded and they all feel great during the first 2 weeks even though they are only taking in 750 calories per day. It's probabaly because they are getting all the vitamens etc..that they need. Anyone have and thoughts on this? -

Thank GOD there is someone like me who tells it like it is. I agree with you 100%. It's insane to take a risk like that. -
Scheduled for March 17th but having second thoughts...
Sweet_pea_2 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am all set to have the adjustable lap band on March 17th but now am thinking about the vertical lap band instead. I know several people who haven 't had good results with the adjustable lap band. I know a lot who have had great results from the vertical lap band. My doctor does both. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Have any of you considered the vertical?:rolleyes2: -
I can't believe that all of you are able to have anything except nutrional supplments immediately post op. My band date is March 17th. For the first two weeks I am ONLY allowed three (3) eight (8) oz cartons of either low carb boost, glucerna etc. If I want I can substitute with three 11 oz. cans of low carb slim fast. I have to drink 64 oz of Water per day in addition to the Boost. I have to walk 2 miles a day starting the day after surgery...which I am actually looking forward to. After 2 weeks I can have pureed foods for 2 weeks. I am not allowed any coffee or caffeine during the first 4 weeks. No gum, no breath mints....all sounds good to me. The stricter it is the quicker I will lose.

Who are ya'll talkingh about???

My band date is March 17th. My BMI is 57 so I expect to lose a whole lot really fast at least at first. I don't have a pre-op diet to follow. I went to a nutrion class this evening and I tasted BOOST. It is nasty! I am going to have to try some of the alternatives before I decide which one I will use for the 2 weeks post op. I am sooOOOoo excited. I plan to start walking 2 miles per day the week before and right afterward until I can work up to walking an hour a day. Will start working out with weights as soon as I lose the first 30-40 pounds which should be within the first 3-6 weeks. New life...new me.

I really like this web site. I'll been reading everyone's posts for a few days reinforced the fact that I am making the right choice in having the lap band. I am soooOOOOoooo excited.
