WLS is the easy way out

Was just watching GMA (Good Morning America) they had two girls who lost a lot of weight and were half their size. I guess they're featured in People's Magazine because they had the editor on there and they asked why they choose those particular girls. Her response was because they lost weight the hard way no surgery no gimmicks. It really upset me to hear that because it feeds into the idea that surgery is the easy way to lose weight, but if only they knew the dedication and hard work we put in as well. I wish people would educate more before opening their mouths about anything. I don't know why it has to be a competition anyways as to who lost weight "naturally" and who got surgery. Either way you lost the weight, you're getting healthy, no way is better than the other. Okay rant over lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    United Health Care Insurance

I have UHC they required a bmi of 40 and over or 39 and under with I believe two comorbidities, 5yr history of being obese, 6 month of weight loss effort (just weigh ins with my PCP) and a psych eval, and that I be enrolled in their bariatric program. It really seems like everyone is different, I'd check in with your insurance. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    high BMI only

I was approved with only my mom. My insurance says you must have a comorbidity if your bmi is under 40 but anything over 40 a comorbidity isn't necessary Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App *bmi sorry autocorrect Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  8. I was so nervous. It will get easier. I got all the books I could and looked at all the before and after pictures I could to show myself why I was getting the surgery done besides all my health problems. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App Yeah I love looking at the before and after pictures, definitely gives me motivation, and I'm not so much nervous of the procedure as I am about pain, and life after. Eating isn't a problem, but just actually losing the weight, I've pretty much always been overweight/obese my whole life, so it's a little scary to actually have something like WLS and have it work long term and get more than 30lbs off lol. At the same time its really exciting, guess it's a roller coaster of emotions lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I was pretty slender most of my life till I got into high school and after. That's when I started gaining weight. In high school I was 120lbs if I was lucky. So I am excited for later. I didn't have a problem with the pain at all, but I have a VERY high pain tolerance. They had me hooked up to fentonal but I didn't use it at all. I only used toradol for the swelling. And when I was discharged I didn't use anything. When I had my c section almost 6 years ago the only thing I used was ibuprofen was for swelling and that was it. So I am not sure how your pain tolerance is. But hopefully it is easy for you. I was only in the hospital for 1 night. went home the next day after surgery. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App Yeah I have a moderately high tolerance for pain, I guess it's just the unknown of how it's going to feel is what gets to me, but hopefully I won't be on meds after the hospital stay guess we'll see. Thanks for the support! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Is that by choice or is that what the surgeon told you? They sent me home with liquid percocet. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App They're going to send me home with pain meds, but I'm just hoping I won't need to take them that long Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  11. Hello everyone! I'd love to support/be supported. My surgery date is 1/23, doing preop diet now, and everyday I get closer I get more nervous about it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I made a goal to be able to ride amusement park rides by my birthday (September surgery is January 23rd) also small goals like being comfortable in booths at restaurants, no seat belt extender on airplanes, I also plan on buying this cute shirt and making it a goal to be able to fit in it. Nothing for when I meet my weight loss goal Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. So I'm about a week (come Monday) into my preop diet, which my surgeon has us do two meals between 250-350 cals and Protein shake for breakfast then fiber if we're hungry still, and the second week is one meal two shakes. I'm over the hump of physical hunger, and not really having head hunger either. The problem I'm running into is not getting enough calories. I'm supposed to get between 1000-1200, i no longer want to eat or feel hungry and I have only ate 500 calories, so I force myself to drink another Protein Drink before bed, BUT I'm drinking premier and that offers only 160 cals, so I'm only making between 600-750 calories for the last two days. Seeing as I'm not hungry and don't finish my meals most the time it's possible it is less then that. SOOOO what I'm asking for is those of you on all liquid diet if you could give me some things that y'all are allowed so that I am able to incorporate that in my plan and get the recommended calories that'd be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-Op Diet: Horribly Sick

Exactly what I was going to say. It may not be the shakes but you detoxing. I was required by insurance to do a 6 month weight loss with a nutritionist, and my NUT had me cut carbs and sugar. Became very agitated, and so sick, but you'll eventually get over that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    January and February 2017 sleevers!

My preop diet isn't completely liquid it's 1 Protein shake 2 meals (4 oz lean meat 1 to 2 cups of veggies) the first week and 2 shakes one meal the second week. 64 oz of Water and if you're hungry they allow for a Fiber drink such as benefiber or Metamucil. I also do another Protein Shake if I'm still hungry, I have to stay between 1000-1200 cal and I use premier Protein Shakes, so not very many cal. In them. Hope this helps some! Good luck:) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

WLS is the easy way out

I was embarrassed in the beginning of my journey and received some backlash, but I learned to thicken my skin and use it as an opportunity to educate those negative ignorant people about the surgery. By no means does it mean tell every in the world, (unless you want) but at the same time don't be scared of people finding out because it's a good thing you're wanting to be healthy and lose weight and you can take it as a chance to be able to educate those people that know nothing about the surgery. Also a good chance to use some of those comebacks @@LittleBill suggsted lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

WLS is the easy way out

Exactly! When I was watching it I was hoping there wasn't somewhere out there thinking of WLS and then heard that and changed their mind. It is definitely frustrating the stigma WLS has, I don't see why it is a problem someone wants to get healthy. We as a society should be commending them and encouraging about it. We're so Obesed as Americans and there is a way to fix that, but because of the stigma around surgery we figure surgery isn't a viable option when in fact it is! So sad people think that way, and don't do research. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
