    Protein bars over shakes?

    Great thank you!

    Protein bars over shakes?

I'm post op, but I'm just trying to prepare for my next month when I have no food restrictions. I have a hard time with protein shakes and most upset my stomach, so I was wondering about doing bars instead after this next month. Which bars do you eat? And how do they taste?

    Protein bars over shakes?

Yes it is too soon, just thinking ahead, but thank you for the info. I used to eat protein bars before surgery never put much thought into how most are like candy bars, so I'll definitely have to watch out for that. Thank you!

    Nausea

This was exactly me, I thought I was dehydrated because I couldn't drink/eat anything for 3 days, so surgeon suggested getting fluids and blood test to see how dehydrated I was. Turns out I wasn't as dehydrated as I thought. The fluids helped some but I still had nausea and my back began to hurt, which were two symptoms I recognized as gallbladder problems (I've had gallbladder problems before the surgery). Went to my PCP told her my gallbladder is acting up she said it's possible because of the rapid weight loss, so she ordered an ultra sound to check, and sure enough I have several gallstones. I'd recommend everyone getting that checked. Better safe than sorry because when gallstones get stuck or try to pass it's the WORSE pain ever.

    5 weeks post op.

I agree with the chewing more. I'm also a month out, my plan allows veggies at this point. I do well with them but they have to be diced pretty small then I have to chew really well so I don't get bubbles or pain. Try that if it doesn't work it may just be the broccoli. I had a friend who had the sleeve she said broccoli was the only veggie that didn't sit well for her until like now and she's about 3 years post op Also, maybe the chicken wasn't moist enough. Any meat I eat at this point that doesn't have some type of sauce or something is too heavy and doesn't go down well for me.

    Bad side effects

The first two weeks my bm's smelled pretty bad, but I didn't and still don't have diarrhea and I'm on soft moist foods. I agree, Poopouri is definitely a must buy though
  7. The band isn't the greatest thing either, and most surgeons don't do it because of crazy complications like eroding. As for your complications they could get better. I have a friend I didn't even know was sleeved before she told me she lives a normal life eats pizza and more stuff, moderation is what works for her. Idk how far you are, but give it some time, and if your GERD is that bad you can't live with it revise to Bypass. On the other hand I appreciate you giving a different outlook because everyone needs to know what they're up against, but the way you do it doesn't make sense. You try and turn people away as if WLS is sooo horrible which it isn't it's life saving for many, and of course there are complications, and something else you should add if you're going to talk about complications is the percentage of them that happens. I'm sorry that you're going through them, but maybe change your approach to how you do it.

    Hydration issues

I like drinking fairlife by itself, and since my surgery I've had issues with lactose, so I like that it has no lactose.

    The dreaded week 3 stall.

I think the best advice I've ever read on here about stalls is to avoid the scale. I weighed at my 2 week appointment and stupidly again after that. Caused too much anxiety, so I put my scale away I'm a month now and haven't weighed since, and I can still see differences in pictures and people who haven't seen me see the difference too. Don't let the number define you, go off of your NSV's and how you feel:)
  10. I'm barely a month out, but my friend had her surgery almost 4 years ago and some people thought she was on drugs. It bothered her, but she didn't talk about it much

    Trying to decide

I got the SIPS procedure which is basically the same as a regular DS with the difference being a longer common channel (the portion of the bowels that absorbs stuff). Before surgery I had bm problems ALWAYS going to the bathroom. I'm only a month out, but so far this has been solved I now have one bm a day. We do require more Vitamins than Sleeve patients less than regular DS patients, but vitamins are more vital and become a part of our lives because we can become malnourished faster than a sleeve patient. Our sleeve is typically longer, so we can eat more than a sleeve patient in the long run, but once again we do not absorb all the calories or nutrients. We also have higher Protein requirements (80-100gm) because of malabsorption. Hope this answered some questions you have.
  13. Definitely not off base, thank you so much. You're right, I need to work on myself and continue to focus on my help. I appreciate your outlook a lot.
  14. It is just hard for me to drink because I'm so nauseous, and drinking anything makes the nausea better. My surgeons office finally called, they're going to have home health people come and give me iv fluids for five days and take blood work to make sure I don't have an infection.
  15. Thanks everyone! Yeah I'm hoping I can get pass this complication and that it doesn't get work, but as for the alcohol i don't mind not drinking, but it seems like the friends I hung out with do mind, so I'm not invited to go certain places or to go out which I still enjoy doing, but just not drinking. Idk, it just sucks that they don't feel the need to hang out with me, when we could do other stuff too you know? Doesn't have to be going out.

    Gallbladder

No need to if it doesn't bother you. My surgeon didn't either because he didn't want to keep me under any longer than I already was. Later down the road it may start bothering you I say take it out then
  17. That's only 100 people which is such a small amount compared to the number of people getting the sleeve this study is already invalid, and not to mention most those people dropped off. I commend you for sharing your hardships because I'm sure there are others that feel how you do, but to go as far as posting on MULTIPLE posts trying to convince people to not do it doesn't help. It's one thing to let people know your story, but let them make their own decision and decide what they can put up with.

    Bad Breath

Well that's good to know it's temporary
  19. I don't see how this can be creepy? For some removal of body parts is needed for a healthy life, or better way of living. I for one will have to have my gallbladder taken out sooner or later due to gallstones and find no problem with it because I won't have to suffer from the pain it causes. As for acid reflux OP I would hope your surgeon explains that to you (mine did in great detail even made me sign a paper noting 90 things that can go wrong but there are more). For me IMO I've had reflux for awhile preop because of a hiatial hernia and there were foods that triggered it. After having surgery (I got DS but the sleeve is part of that) I was put on ppi's because it's common for you to have acid reflux. If I were to experience it long term I'd then turn to natural remedies, but I'm prepared for that. I think mentally you must put yourself in a place of wanting to be healthy with POSSIBLE complications (and the percentage that this happens to is soooo extremely small) or not dealing with that chance and taking the inevitable chance of health problems due to being overweight/obese. I would say it is important to see both pros and cons and get as much info, but ultimately it's up to you, and what you can live with in the end. I wish you the best of luck OP!

    Bad Breath

I'm experiencing the same thing, is there anyway to help this? I feel like I'm constantly brushing my teeth with no avail [emoji20]

    Getting full from liquids

The nurse practitioner said it's normal and to get at least 48 oz but work up to the 64 oz. She also said it may have something to do with my hernia repair as well Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. So I'm 2 weeks post op and was able to start soft food couldn't get more that like 3 bites before feeling full. Now I'm mostly just drinking Water and getting my Protein in from mixing gene pro in my drinks. I can't hit goal for liquids anymore. At first it was so easy and I even got more, but now I get so full and can't drinking anything. Anyone have experience with this or know what's going on? (I have a follow up tomorrow and will also be talking to my surgeon about this) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Choosing Gastric Bypass

Have you considered the Duodenal Switch? Does your surgeon do it? It's basically the Bypass and Sleeve. You get the sleeve it's just slightly bigger than someone with a sleeve because they also reroute the duodenum part of the intestine. It doesn't Bypass the pyloric valve however, so dumping doesn't happen quite as commonly, but you don't absorb as many calories. Along with that you will be on Vitamins the rest of you life (which for me wasn't a huge problem). Depending on the type your doctor does there is either 100 cm of common channel left, or (what I have) 300 left, and that is the part where you absorb everything. With a longer common channel I don't need as much vitamins or have many bowel problems (yet I'm only 2 weeks post op). I too was going to choose Bypass, but my doctor brought the switch to my attention and I ended up doing that because I like the fact that I also can get sleeved along with the malabsorbitive option.
