    Why no iceberg lettuce?

When you say difficult to digest do you mean it may cause stomach aches or like constipation? I like the hearty greens and will be able to try them in a couple of weeks, and I just want to know what to expect/ have an idea of.
  2. I love this, I feel in the dark where I'm from because of surgery requirements I had to go 4 hours from where I live to get surgery, so I don't know of any support groups. I've tried to look for some, but the only ones that pop up are OA meetings but I didn't like that and I don't think it'd fit my life right now. Luckily I've told one of my close friends I had initially kept it from, and her and I have gotten closer:)

    Why no iceberg lettuce?

My NUT said iceberg lettuce is a waste of space (the little we have been) because there's no nutritional value.

    Haven't pooped

Milk of Mag, Smooth Move Herbal tea (I use two bags), Colace. Any of those three really help me. Also have to make sure you're drinking a lot and walking a lot too to get your bowels moving.

    Solids soon... help!

Thanks for this! I can definitely work with some of these foods, and at this point I've lost interest in food and don't mind eating the same thing
  6. So I'm losing interest in food, but luckily will be on solids. What do/did you guys eat during this stage? Breakfast lunch and dinner. I really have been craving salads but sadly can't have them yet[emoji20] Any and all suggestions welcomed!

Will I Ever Eat Spicy Again?

I'm able to tolerate some spicy things, I'm also on a ppi so that may have something to do with it. I can do red and green chile BUT can't be too hot yet, siracha is a hit or miss sometimes my tummy likes it sometimes it's like hell no. I've also had some Louisiana hot sauce which is also a hit or miss. Haven't tried anything else yet. I'm about 6 weeks post op.

    Protein malabsorption?

    Thank you!

    Solids soon... help!

Same here, the only one I can tolerate is genepro, and even that is beginning to make me gag. That's why I can't wait to be able to try some protein bars.

    Protein malabsorption?

Yeah I know what you mean, and I've lost 28 lbs since surgery 41 since preop.

    Solids soon... help!

That sounds like something I'd want to do, but My NUT wants me to work on getting 5 meals in, maybe I can talk to her about that. Thanks for the input!

    Protein malabsorption?

I'm happy with my surgery so far. I had bowel problems before and would make frequent stops to the bathroom and ever since surgery I only go once a day, so I was happy about that. I'm actually not sure I malabsorb, but I don't have a problem with it being less than traditional DS I'm just happy I'm finally losing weight. Are you going to be having traditional DS or SIPS?

    Protein malabsorption?

No problem, and I've had SIPS surgery, and I find it hard to get my 80, but I'm also only about 6 weeks out, so hopefully that'll get easier.
  14. janedoe92

    Protein malabsorption?

80 to 100 is usually if you get SIPS, where your common channel is 250+ which allows more absorption than regular DS where your cc is way smaller therefore less absorption and more protein needed.

    Solids soon... help!

Thanks! I guess solids is such a mystery to me because my surgeons office skips purée food stage, so most of everything you're describing are things I've been eating. I guess I'm just bored with eating it, and am losing interest which leads to me not eating. My NUT doesn't want me to do this because this is how I gained weight with eating a lot once a day and keeping my body in starvation mode. Definitely not trying to back track.

    Trying to decide

My doctor said that hair loss is normal when your body goes through trauma, but doesn't happen to everyone. This surgery is definitely traumatic to the body. My friend had the sleeve about 3+ years ago and lost a good amount of hair BUT she told me she wasn't compliant with vitamins at first or protein goals.

    Hiatal hernia

It could be a hernia. I got mine fixed during surgery, but everything you described as your symptoms is what I felt. On the other hand I also have gallbladder issues, it was inflamed at one time and that only gave me back pain. Now I have stones that's a mixture of a lot of different symptoms but not all at the same times. Back pain is one, nausea, stomach pain. Those are some I experienced with gallbladder symptoms. I went to my pcp explained my symptoms and she right away ordered blood work and ultrasound. Maybe check in with your doctor?
  18. I have UHC too, but your plan may be different. I'd suggest calling your insurance and see if you could lose approval if you lose weight and fall below the required BMI. If so talk to the NUT see what they suggest you do.
  19. I got the switch (the sleeve is a component) and a hernia repair. Most my pain the doctor said will be from the hernia repair, but that I could have a good recovery because I'm young (24). The first day pain was bad (not too memorable now) so I was on meds all day the second day wasn't that bad, still in some pain but bearable. I didn't need the pain meds past the 2nd day. My recovery was pretty smooth for the most part, but everyone is different. Hope this helps!
  20. There's a user on here@travelher I believe and I remember reading how low carb did the same to her so she increased the carbs, but to good ones.
  21. If it makes you feel any better OP I just told people I was dieting and cut most carbs and sugar out. Went out to eat had some seafood, couldn't eat much, but there were no questions because I've already told my friend I was dieting. People notice you eat significantly less, but you don't have to tell them you had surgery. Tell them you're dieting. Also, disclaimer, it was a little easier for me to get away with this because my surgeon skips the purée stage completely.
  22. Maybe your body needs the carbs, but the good ones. See if you can speak with a NUT

    Protein bars over shakes?

I don't dump, but sugar is definitely my downfall and a real slippery slope, so I probably won't try those thanks for the suggestion though! I will say having one for breakfast (when I'm allowed) will probably be my go to, I'm not very good at eating breakfast either

    Protein bars over shakes?

Do the bars tend to make you constipated?
