Hi, so I'm new to this site, but I decided back in may I wanted to do wls, when I first talked to my insurance company about requirements I met all of them, so I picked a Dr. and got my consultation date. Then when I was speaking to them about something completely different I decided to ask about requirements again. Good thing I did because the first time I asked they failed to tell me I must do their bariatric program and get surgery at one of their hospitals of excellence. The only problem was there is not one in my state. However they reimburse me for travel expenses. It was just so frustrating because I was excited to begin with my consultation and everything. Now I feel like I'm starting all over again. I'm pretty nervous about having to do it through their program and want to know if anyone here has done United healthcare's bariatric program and how that went for you?

Has anyone heard of this modification to regular ds? It's also known as biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS)? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm wondering if anyone (when allowed) switched out shakes for bars to meet their requirements? I'm thinking I would want to because I've been unsuccessful in the shake department, except for genepro, and when I am able to, want to switch to bars instead. Any insight? Pros and cons? Thanks in advance!!

290.6 again, I hate stalling because it's so discouraging, doesn't look like I'll meet my goal at this rate, but I'm gonna keep striving toward it -

Won't be able to log in tomorrow so here's the weigh in: CW: 304.4 -
I also had this, the difference is the length of your common channel, it's usually longer 250+ whereas traditional DS is between 100-150. I still say DS but we just absorb more than traditional. The modified is also known as SIPS, so you'll see people refer to that as well. However, my center wants me on low fat too this is due to the malabsorption, you absorb more than traditional DS so full fat doesn't really matter for them. Hope this helps!

I didn't have Sleeve surgery, but am very interested in doing this challenge if that's okay!? -
I was 6 weeks in and only lost 8lbs between my 2 week post op appointment and my 6 week. Devastated to say the least. The nurse practitioner was happy about it and looking at the overall picture that I've lost 41 lbs since pre op diet. Made me feel okay, but couldn't help but still beat myself up. Then I met with my NUT and going over what I'm eating she was like yeah you need to eat more even if it's a couple of bites because your body is in starvation mode, so I started eating more and the weight started coming off again. Use your stall as motivation evaluate what you're eating (or in my case not eating) and see what you can do to break that stall!

Was your 2nd month slow weight loss?
janedoe92 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm interested in seeing how people did 2 months out in terms of weightloss. Before anyone says so, I'm not comparing myself I'm just a curious person, and this is all new to me and I like seeing all the varying differences. -
Never thought I'd regret it...but here I am

I remember when I got the surgery I was sooo incredibly happy. I'm finally losing weight more than I have doing every diet known to man, but can't find the happiness in it anymore. I've been struggling for awhile with how my life is already changing. I've always been a pretty social person (I'm 24 so i liked to go out often, drink with friends, lunches, things of that sort). I knew that would change and I thought I prepared myself. Now I feel almost alone in a sense. I no longer have that social aspect to my life and it kills me. I still want to go out, but of course people don't want to go out with someone that's not going to drink. The friend I had for support is still supportive, but even she at most times doesn't understand because we had two different surgeries (she was sleeved I had the switch), and it seems like she doesn't get how things can be different for me, so I no longer have anyone to talk to about my journey. Now I'm having a complication, which is so frustrating to me. My recovery was so incredibly smooth and I was able to get all liquids and protein within 3 days. Now I am struggling and have sever nausea. I am in touch with my team, but it's not as easy seeing as I live 4 hours away from them. We're thinking it may be dehydration but I'm hoping not because she said I would have to do a home health stay and get iv fluids. I cannot afford anymore time off work, or school and I am in an internship and can't afford to miss days there either. I feel so depressed about this whole situation, and just wish better days would come where I am not regretting the surgery and can finally enjoy losing the weight [emoji17] -

Wow that's rough because you're having complications on top of that. I'm sorry, it's a roller coaster ride for sure. I have my good days and bad days, but I have to keep reminding myself why I did this in the first place. I hope you get better! Have you talk to your surgeon? Do they know what may be going on? -
Also it has seeds, and I know my plan has seeds off until 2 months

Lol at the pictures of loose skin, and I agree with@OutsideMatchInside loose skin is almost inevitable and you have to come to terms with it (I still worry, but I know I'll have it). Hydration is essential anyways because it's good to stay hydrated and does help skin. As far as lotion and stuff, culturally lotion is VERY important because without it you can see how dry our skin is rather than on lighter complexions not so much, but I will say, exfoliating and lotion adds something to the appearance of your skin to help it look better, it won't snap the loose stuff into place, but can help it look better!

Can we drink out of straws?
janedoe92 replied to Lovelyladybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT said try straws at week 2 if it's uncomfortable treat it like foods that make you uncomfortable and try at a later time. She says there's no such thing as "stretching the pouch " it's just straws allow air and air hurts in the tiny tummy. I'm almost 2 months post op and use straws daily, but that wasn't the case until roughly a month because they were uncomfortable up til then. I love it because I'm able to drink more water too. -

Yeah this week is the first week on solids and I'm doing way better because I've switched to one protein bar a day and am able to get the rest from real food, and if I miss some I have gene pro to make it up. I started almost around where you are so that gives me even more hope!
