Heather's Journey
Sara Crowley replied to losingtheselumps's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello, I was reading your journey and have to say congrats ! I just had my surgery 8/2 and trying to find a balance with everything. My taste buds totally changed. I cant stand the shakes, powders etc. Water hurts rather you sip or gulp. Soft food stage is next week so hopefully I can get Protein better with real food. I hope you all keep posting cause yes its very inspiring. -

Would you do it again?

Keep your head up! I wish I would have gotten it at your age. I just did mine and I am having the same issues as you are but on the liquids. Used to love water now I hate it. Have to have flavoring in it just to drink it but I hate the flavoring also lol. I cant stand the taste of anything just about. I thought I was picky before, holy crap I think I am going to be pickier lol. Taking the Vitamins are hard for me, I got some Fair Life milk (has 13 gr of Protein and is better for you than reg milk) and it helps the pills go down easier. My nut told me about that. I cant drink too much of it cause anything with a little bit of thickness makes me queasy. I hope food don't do that to me but I am sure it will. Everything smells good but the thought of eating it makes me leary lol. Good luck! I am sure this all will get better! -
Before my surgery, all I would drink was coffee and Water. After surgery, my water has to be flavored in order for me to drink it, which is really disappointing for me cause a lot of stuff is too sweet, even crystal light. Water for whatever reason feels like it gets stuck in my tubes going down to my stomach no matter how small the sip. I am hoping that as time passes this will ease (I had surgery 8/2). My taste buds have changed drastically after the surgery and still changing. I just hope that they changed and decided not to like the sweets that I used to like before lol. But everyone is different. My mother had the surgery also and the only thing that changed for her was the shakes (she hates them now and they make her nauseous). Regardless if something changes, you will find out what works for you. Congrats on the upcoming surgery !

Would you do it again?
Sara Crowley replied to char3672's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ Sara Crowley - Actually, restaurants with my wife were easier because I was in control and no one bugged me to either "try something" or asking me why I wasn't eating. The challenge came in events with friends and/or family -- those I avoided as long as possible... I didn't post the social post. But I do understand what you are saying -

Yes I would definitely do it again! I was lucky and didn't throw up, felt queasy a few times but didn't throw up. Recovery is different for everyone. My mom and I had it together and I was released the same day whereas she was released the next. Had my surgery 8/2 and was back at work full time 8/8. My mom is still off recovering but she goes back 8/22. Any kind of surgery is scary but like another lady said in an earlier post you have to take the pros with the cons and trust me the pros totally outweigh the cons. -
Congratulations!!!! That is so awesome!

Well crap, I am glad you said that. My doc really didn't say anything about it. But I guess I will have to split it up. I will figure out something lol. Have a tbsp. in the am or something. At this point I just want my protein lol
-
LOL I have a lady at my work that is about to have surgery and I have been giving her all my shakes that I bought and bout to give her my powder stuff too. I also got some organic whey protein (just came in yesterday) it wasn't too bad. It had a taste but I put it in chicken broth and it was tolerable. I am way excited about the Genepro I can put 2 tbsp. (if it tastes alright lol ) in a broth and have most my protein and I wont have to worry about it. At work I forget to eat so it would be great to get most of the protein all at once

Syntrax Nectars are nice, I like all the fruit flavors and they're quite high protein. You should be able to drink clear broth as well, doesn't your program allow that on Clear liquids? You can add protein to it...I use GENEPRO unflavored protein and I can't detect it once I mix it into a beverage or food...what brand are you using? Another thing to consider is that maybe you're sensitive to the sweetener in your Protein Shakes? I hate both aspertame (not in a lot of protein) and sucralose (in virtually every flavored protein), so I switched to Genepro and use either stevia or monkfruit liquid to sweeten things. Thank you so much, ordered the Genepro (one tbsp. per 30 g is way better). Yes I think its the sweeteners also. I can handle Propel water so at least I am getting my 64 oz fluids (well do my best) but the protein is a challenge now which is so frustrating (also going broke buying all this stuff lol) I cant wait to the soft food stage so that I can eat eggs and other kinds of high protein stuff.

I am 2 weeks out and not hungry but smells of food are kind of making me want food. Plain Water does the same thing to me, can't stand it. Also since the surgery seems like my taste buds got even more picky than before. I can't stomach the Protein shakes and the whey unflavored powder tastes horrible (it does have a flavor) It has become a chore to try to get in 60-80 grams of protein a day now cause I cannot stand practically everything protein comes in.. Very frustrating. I found that I like Fair life milk but it makes me nauseous. I am hoping that I will like the shakes again cause they have a lot of protein but right now just thinking of drinking one is making me queasy. Any suggestions on protein besides Trusource, shakes etc??
