    Hair loss

@@busybeebug you might want to double check with your program about the hair/skin/nails Vitamin. My program very specifically advises against them because they have fat soluble Vitamins in them and most people post-op can't consume enough fat to digest them properly (and that can lead to toxicity). I'm told that Biotin is fine (though most people say it doesn't work). :-/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Any October 2016 Sleevers?

Thanks for sharing @capecrooner and congrats! I was sleeved 10/5 and am facing another two weeks of liquids so it's really good to hear how things are going for you a year out. Do you mind if I ask what your weight was pre-op? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

10/5 surgery AND Split pea soup is AWESOME

Mind if I ask how old you are? I'm 61 and wondering how I will bounce back. Sent from my LGLS992 using the BariatricPal App Sure. I'm 35, but for what it's worth the person in the hospital bed next to me when I was roomed after surgery was doing a lot better than me. She was chipper, not nauseated at all, and doing laps around the hospital within an hour of waking up (it took me a few hours to really get going). She is 59. I'm sure that age plays a part, as well as general wellness, but I think there are a lot of other factors too so it's hard to predict. Wishing you all the best for an easy and speedy recovery! nervous and excited

I'm doing very well! Thanks for checking in! Surgery went well, I spent one night then came home yesterday morning. Focusing on staying hydrated and doing well with that (it's only 9:30am here and I've already had 24oz of fluids). Will start full liquids tomorrow and start focusing on Protein then. Any October 2016 Sleevers?

I'm doing well. Came home yesterday morning. I've been doing a lot of walking around the neighborhood (even went to Target yesterday afternoon!) and staying hydrated. Getting in some Protein (sipping bone broth) but mainly focusing on hydration. Tomorrow (3rd day post-op) is when my team wants me to start focusing on protein - I'll be moving from Clear Liquids to full liquids then). I hope that everyone is doing well!! Any October 2016 Sleevers?

Good luck 10/6ers! I had mine yesterday and am feeling pretty good. I've been walking a lot and seem to have no trouble with sips of broth/herbal tea/water. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Reselling clothes

ThreadUp is great - they send you giant bags to fill then you return them and they sort through each item and tell you how much they will pay you for it. You can get a check or credit from them to use towards you buying your next size. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What is your favorite snack?

    Any October 2016 Sleevers?

Surgery is on Wednesday and my 2yo just got a cold. They won't do surgery if I am sick, so fingers crossed I don't catch it!! I'm taking EmergenC and washing my hands constantly. Uggghh. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Any October 2016 Sleevers?

@@mommyhay Different programs have different pre-op diets. A lot of people are on liquids for a week or two. My program doesn't have any "liquid diet" portion pre-op and only for 2-3 days post-op. I think the main thing is just to follow your own program. It's amazing how different they are! Anyone have young kids?

Following this thread. My kids are 4 and 2. I've been told that I won't be able to lift them for 6 weeks (but lap snuggles are ok). :-)

    Advocare

It has caffeine so most plans recommend against it.
  19. perspectiveiseverything

    Regain?

I'm still pre-op but the program NUT is fond of saying that the vast majority of the time that people regain, it's due to snacking and/or "drinking your calories." They strongly recommend three high Protein meals per day - no Snacks. And no drinks with more than 5 calories ever.

    DEEP, DEEP HUNGER

Oh, mine is in capsule form and it is quite easy to get down. I would never mess with adjusting dosage or trying to wean off it (without a dr's care) especially right now. Besides, I tried months ago and decided just to stay on it. My body has been through enough! Thanks for caring enough to mention this, though. In the future I will talk to my GP about it, but only once I am good and healed from this. I can't take any more shocks to my system. Great! Sorry to sound preachy! I work in the field and have seen people try to do it on their own too many times. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    DEEP, DEEP HUNGER

@@Browneyedgirl41 Be careful dropping your cymbalta dosage so recently after surgery. I know that the pills are tough, but try to take your full dosage. People have to ween themselves off that type of medication (SSRIs) very slowly or else the side effects will be intense. :-/. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    RICHMOND, CA KAISER ANYONE?

    RICHMOND, CA KAISER ANYONE?

I started at 253 (at orientation) and the dr wanted me to lose 10 lbs. I agree with @@aqua24, the pre-op meal plan is easy to follow and helps a lot. I've lost 19 lbs so far and my surgery isn't until 10/5. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    RICHMOND, CA KAISER ANYONE?

Orientations are on Thursday mornings. Psych groups/modules are from 3-5pm on Wednesdays (some people have to go and some don't), support group is 6-7:30 on Wednesday nights. Orientation includes a lot of great info but nothing specific to individual cases. After orientation they schedule you for a psych module (if you've started the program before) or a one-on-one appointment with either Dr. Z or one of the surgeons. Post-op diet with real food?

My program (Kaiser Northern CA) is absolutely opposed to protein shakes and powders. We are only supposed to eat whole foods (plus vitamins) from the very start of orientation and throughout. Even the pre-op meal plan is all whole foods. Post-op foods are obviously appropriate to the stage (I.e. bone broth on stage one, yogurt/split pea soup stage 2, eggs/cheese/ground meats/soft veggies stage 3).
