Is it too early for eggs?

As others have said, it's best to follow your own plan from your surgeon/NUT. That said, eggs and chicken became ok for me at 14 days post-op (full liquids only until then) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Exercise habits?

I am a swimmer and usually swim 4-6 times a week for 500-750 yards (depending on how much time I have for a workout). I have also dabbled in jogging, but I sort of have to force myself (unlike swimming which I still get excited about). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Today's the day!

I'm still in hospital. Nausea was really bad for first few days and I wasn't getting in any fluids. If I can drink enough today - then I can go home. It'll be nice to sleep in my own bed. Congrats on your journey so far! Hopefully you are through the worst of the nausea and you can go home soon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Anyone have young kids?

I am now two weeks out from VSG. I have a four year old and a two year old and my wife (we are a two mom family) owns her own business so was only home for a few days. It has gone really well! So much easier than I expected. My littlest one (who still likes to be held a lot) has been great. I just show him the "boo-boo on my belly" and remind him that I can't pick him up. Today's the day!

How are you feeling today? Do you get to go home? I am two weeks ahead of you and graduated from full liquids to soft foods today (and, with my surgeon's ok, went for my first post-op jog). So far, so good! Every day gets easier! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Is meal delivery service an option?

I use Blue Apron and like it. Pre-op it was easy to choose easily adaptable recipes and make mine low-carb (the rest of the family would eat as is). I am 12 days post-op now and still on full liquids so not eating the meals, but they have still been great for my family because I don't have to think about what I am going to feed them (it arrives, we fix it). That said, if I didn't have a family to feed it wouldn't be worth it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  10. Very similar here. Not a fan of chains at all, but had to go to Olive Garden this week to meet with some parents from my daughter's school. I'm not quite two weeks post-op. I ordered zuppa toscana and asked them to strain it (which they did no problem). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Help me design a portion plate for our community!

This sounds fantastic. I might use a plate, but I would definitely- without a doubt- use a bento box/lunch storage container(s). My kids use lunchboxes from PlanetBox. They are pricey but I love that they are perfectly portioned out and super easy to clean. The only issue is that they are metal (fine for kids at school but a problem if an adult wants to heat something up). I would be especially interested in a product that is eco-friendly, has some cute trendy design options, and maybe even comes with a bag that you can zip it into for easy portability. What Is Your Beverage of Choice?

I have always loved Water and I am lucky that I still do (10 days post sleeve). Most of my liquids are still in the form of water, but I have also been drinking nonfat milk (fairlife has 13g of Protein in 8 oz which is a fantastic way to get protein in right now).
  13. I am 8 days post sleeve today. Last night, as I was making carnitas with all the fixings for my family, I was starting to feel a little sorry for myself and my current all-liquids-all-the-time diet. Then I started to focus on why I am doing this (perspective is everything!) and the fact that I want to do everything in my power to live as long and as healthy a life as possible. I want to watch my two young kids grow old. I watched them eat their carnitas and I savored every bite of my strained cream of chicken Soup. This morning I went to my primary care Dr appt and the scale read 217. That means that I have lost 36 lbs since I started this journey in August (and 11 lbs since my surgery on 10/5). Amazing! I was also officially, completely taken off all my blood pressure medication (one of my primary reasons for doing this). Woohoo! Today I am going on a hike with a friend and getting a leg/foot massage (oh, and having some more soup). . There are moments when it's hard, but I am so happy with this decision - and this is only the beginning! Cheers and best of luck to everyone out there! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Any October 2016 Sleevers?

I am one week and two days out. I agree completely with what @@lowbmi65 said. The recovery has not been near what I thought it would be. Monday was six days out and I went to my sons last Jr high football game. I'm still a bit sore, but more like muscle soreness. Rocking out the puréed foods. So thankful for the opportunity to better my health. You've got this!!! Go for it!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Jesus loves you!!! Agreed! I had surgery on 10/5 and went to my daughter's soccer game on 10/8. 8 days out now and feeling great. Meeting Protein and hydration goals and went for a 3 mile walk today (followed by some nice time on the couch with Netflix). Sending thoughts, prayers and good wishes to everyone with surgery on the horizon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

When could you eat fish post-op?

In the soft foods stage which for me is day 17 post-op. I am day 8 post-op right now. Clear liquids days 1-3, then two weeks on full liquids, then soft foods (and I'm looking forward to it so fingers crossed it goes well!) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Will I be able to walk about half a mile 5 days post op?

Yes, I am 7 days post op and I definitely would've been able to. Just don't pick her up! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I'm on my third day post op and feeling great. No more pain meds, taking my Vitamins, getting 64+ oz of liquids in and around 50 grams of Protein (need to up it a bit, but I think this is pretty darn good for three days post-op). Haven't weighed myself yet - waiting for the 2 week post-op appt. I started full liquids today (as opposed to clear liquids) and was able to have decaf coffee with a little bit of nonfat milk this morning and delicious split pea Soup with a dollop of nonfat Greek yogurt for dinner. Life is good. I hope that everyone is doing well! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Kaiser

So sorry to hear that the process is so challenging in Southern CA and on the East Coast. I have Northern CA Kaiser and it has been a quick and seemless process. KP is know for being great here in NorCal, but the reputation is poor elsewhere. :-/. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Gastric sleeve surgery dates?

I was sleeved on 10/5 and am physically feeling great. I am getting very tired of liquids too. I went to the Soup bar at whole foods today and bought 3 different kinds of soups - then came home and strained them to get me thought the next several days at least. Here's to variation!

    Supplements

multi, 500mg calcium citrate 3x/day, B12 sublingual, Iron. After a month (and it's easier to swallow pills) I am supposed to add D3 and B complex. And a probiotic.

    Getting in Protein

I am a week post-op and still on modified liquids. I am supposed to aim for 64oz liquids/day and 60g Protein. The two things that have been very helpful for me are milk (nonfat, which has between 10-13 grams of protein depending on the brand) and adding whey Protein powder to Vitamin Water (thereby making 16oz of vitamin water have 37g of protein). Also, I sip bone broth throughout the day instead of regular broth (10+ grams or protein in 8 oz).

    nervous and excited

Hi - I am new to this site and wanted to introduce myself. I have been overweight since childhood, but after two (amazing and beautiful) kids my weight is the highest it's ever been. I have always been very confident and self-assured and didn't let the weight effect my zest for life, but I now have developed hypertension and with a strong family history of hypertension/heart disease, I recently had my "aha" moment and decided that now is the time. The bottom line is that I want to do everything in my power to live a long and healthy life for myself and for my family. So here we go! I am married and my wife is supportive of my decision to pursue VSG (but she is nervous about the idea of surgery and is a naturally thin person so doesn't have the same perspective). I have KP Northern CA insurance so everything will be covered. I had my orientation/appt with nutritionist on August 4, then my surgical consult on 8/12, and I have my psych consult scheduled for 9/1. If I am at pre-surg goal weight by 9/1 (fingers-crossed) then hopefully my surgery will be a month(ish) later. Yay! Stats: Age: 35 Height: 5'8" Weight at referral: 254 Current weight: 246 Pre-surg goal weight: 243

10/5 surgery AND Split pea soup is AWESOME

My program didn't have any pre-op liquid diet. Just high Protein (3 oz first at every meal), low carb. I followed it pretty well (not perfectly) and lost 25 lbs in the two months between orientation and surgery. We had to finish dinner by 6pm the day before surgery, but no prep other than that. Every program is very different. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
