  1. Hi all **Random question ahead** After surgery did you notice you sweated less? And not just because you were getting smaller? I'm a sweater. I sweat in winter, I sweat standing still doing nothing, I sweat thinking about sweating & I sweat even when I'm at my lightest weight so I can't only attribute it to being obese. (& no I don't have hyperhidrosis). I know someone who just stopped sweating after surgery and I'm desperately hoping this will happen to me too. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Hi all I've been very slack the past month or so and have been skipping Breakfast. I generally have a coffee in the morning and don't eat until around late morning/lunch time. I'm 15 weeks post op and have been losing quite steadily since my op. I leave the house at 6am to start work at 7am and I have no interest in eating anything at that time. Does everyone here eat breakfast? If so, what do you eat? And have you found it hinders or helps your weight loss? I know everyone says breakfast is the most important meal of the day but I wonder if this rings true for weight loss patients. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. I'm sleeved, 18 weeks post op & have dumped a few times. The worst was after drinking too soon after a meal. It was comparable to food poisoning. I get what you get as well, nausea, the sweats etc & I also get bouts of diarrhoea. So yes. Dumping is most certainly something sleeved patients get. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    A little sugar that bad?

I still have 1 teaspoon of sugar in my coffee every day. I couldn't find a sweetener that I liked so I've been drinking it this way since day 1 post op & my NUT is fine with that. I'm 18 weeks post op & I've lost 58 lbs. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Surgery date 4th Oct Height 5'6 SW 255 CW 198 Total loss 57 lbs I wonder how many of you snack (ie how many meals a day?) and what is your calorie goal? I'm probably not getting enough calories and lately I've even been skipping breakfast and not eating until lunch. I'm tired and my arms and legs are aching. This is a sure fire sign that I need to get my butt in gear and my head back in the game. So happy to have found this thread. Everyone is doing so well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. @@RussT If it makes you feel any better (cause misery loves company right?) I have been stalled for 1 month. And when I say stalled I mean 0 pounds lost..for 4 weeks. And I'm only 7 weeks post op. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. Curious as to how you're going? Did your stall finally break? I'm 7 weeks post op and I've been stalled for 4 weeks. Everyone keeps telling me it'll start to come off again but I'm beginning to doubt it will. Tell me some good news. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Calories

Are you hungry, or are you just having the shake in the afternoon to stop you grazing? If so, I would definitely cut this out. It's a matter of learning to control your head hunger now. My nutritionists plan has stated not to eat a meal over 2 sittings. And to restrict the volume of each meal to half a cup. If I couldn't finish it within 20 minutes I was to stop eating. I'm now 7 weeks post op. I eat 3 meals a day, no Snacks. But I also don't get hungry. I think if you were feeling hungry it'd be different story. Do you not have a plan from your nutritionist? 9. I was still super low on energy at 3 weeks post op. Even walking around the supermarket left me a bit spacey and worn out. I did my first gym session (cycle class) at 5 weeks and felt fine. I know some people are against it and I dare not say the C word but you could try a slight pick me up (half a banana or something) about half an hour before your workout. It'll give you a bit of energy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. It's been a sweltering 38 degrees here the last few days (in Australia) and I feel like I've had my drink bottle permanently attached to my lips. I'm not tolerating plain Water (no matter what temp) so I've been adding sugar free cordial and drinking that. But I always feel thirsty, and I feel like I'm literally drinking all day. Can anyone suggest anything that might help? It's not even officially summer yet. Aghhh. I'm 5 weeks post op, so still sipping...and sipping...and sipping. 11. Really good. I recovered very well. Can eat pretty much anything (on my plan). But I struggle with Protein because I couldn't be bothered eating anything and I have to force myself. And for some reason no matter how much I drink I always feel thirsty. But otherwise I'm great. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Usually at least 1.5 - 2L (50-60oz). I know this isn't enough but I honestly don't know how I can get any more in. I sip all day but it hurts if I take too much in at a time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hiccups Anyone?

All the time. I get it drinking but it's also my full signal. My sister, who is also sleeved, sneezes when she's full. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. @@Alexis99 I think I asked exactly the same question. I too was a sweet eater and I binged something chronic on sweet foods prior to getting sleeved. I was so afraid that I would be able to continue to binge post sleeve and that it would all have been for nothing. I'm only 5 weeks post op but I can say that I haven't touched anything sweet since I started my pre op diet, nor have I wanted to. I can't say this will always be the case but I do know that my frame of mind has changed. I've been through so much and I no longer want that food. I can't tell you which op to get but know that bypass patients don't always dump from sweet food. There are a large majority that don't, so don't let that sway you. Go with your gut. At the end of the day you will have to work equally hard no matter which surgery you choose. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Exhausted!

It wasn't until my 4th week post op that I started to feel normal again. I found going outside and sitting in the sun and getting some fresh air really helped me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. That's 4.3 pounds per week. I know it's easy to compare yourself to others but you need to try and find some perspective. 52 pounds in 12 weeks is a lot of weight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Fruits and Veggies?

I think people get so lost in the protein first rule that they forget that vegetables are a vital part of our diet. They have so many good nutritional qualities and aid in good brain function & memory. Yes, protein is essential for helping us feel fuller for longer, aiding in muscle and tissue repair etc, but I'm a true believer that our diets should be varied and include fruits, vegetables, and healthy, natural whole foods. (Just look at all the sleeved vegetarians getting their protein sources from veg etc). Your body may not like the fruit? But I can't imagine you would gain weight from non starchy vegetables. When did you start drinking coffee?

Never stopped. My team just said to cut it to one a day. I will say that I don't enjoy it as much as I did pre op. Could give or take it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. eggs were the first thing I tried once I moved onto soft foods. My body felt fine, they went down fine then half an hour later I dumped. If you haven't dumped yet, and by the sounds of it you haven't, it's comparable to symptoms of food poisoning. And it's horrible. My point is, you can listen to your body, & your body might feel fine but your tummy will tell a different story. I know you don't have a plan, but be patient. Don't force your stages. Desperate times

Noooooo. Don't do this. You're only 2 weeks out. Your body is still healing, it's still in shock from surgery, you're probably still holding onto fluids. Just stick to the plan, make sure you're getting ample fluids and the weight will start to fall off. How many calories on average are you eating per day? 21. I had a pretty easy recovery with limited pain but I would definitely recommend staying at least overnight. Not only can they give you pain meds if you need them (you'll need them), I was also on a drip so I was getting hydrated because of how little you're able to drink those first couple of days. As for the pre op diet. It sux, but it definitely gets easier as the days go on. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Do you have reflux/GERD? And if so are you taking something for it? I find when my reflux is in full swing that it's harder for me to drink/eat and it hurts. But yes, definitely consult your surgeon. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. I'm almost 5 weeks and I still can't eat a whole egg. I can pretty much eat anything (I'm on full foods now) but I feel full quickly which is normal. If it feels better to stay on liquids than that's ok. Don't move forward if your body isn't ready. And your team wouldn't/shouldn't progress you if you're not comfortable. 24. @@BSWhip08 I had band to sleeve revision 4 weeks ago. And I wanted to say that even though we're all different, for me personally, the recovery from getting the sleeve was way less painful than the band. My tummy didn't hurt at all like it did with the band. I was shocked at how easy the recovery was. And I too had my band about 10 years ago. I'm only 4 weeks out so I don't know what the future holds, but I can say that I don't feel hungry and I have to force myself to eat most of the time. It's definitely nothing like the band. Lastly, your kids will be fine. I'm sure they'll see you becoming healthier and more active and just be happy that you aren't struggling anymore. I don't look at my parents and think because they did xyz that I'm going to do that too. Kids will be kids, they'll do what they want regardless, but at the end of the day they'll be just fine. Good luck with your surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. Hi all I know that in the early days you have to chew your food to a pulp as you're still healing & swollen. My question is, do we have to chew our food like this forever? If not, at roughly what stage were you able to take bigger bites or chew 'normally' again? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
