  1. @@KristenLe Thanks! I'm really hoping that it's just temporary. I've wanted this for over a year now and now that it's happening maybe I just feel overwhelmed.
  2. I hate bras more than anything in the entire world. Once I lose this weight I'm getting a breast reduction so I can wear those teeny tiny bullshit triangle bras that weigh like 1 ounce. I don't care if it makes me flat as a 10 year old boy, my husband is going to have to get over it.
  3. Just curious about prices other places. The lowest I found here was around 12K
  4. It's like a tube that's stuck in your incision to let Fluid drain out into a bag. My surgeon doesn't use drains or catheters which I'm super happy about.
  5. Interesting. Can I ask why Mexico feels safer to you?
  6. Sounds like Florida is the place to be! Who was your surgeon?
  7. Move through mercy hospital in Festus Missouri with Dr Jay Snow was $11,111. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App And I was self pay also. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App I looked in to Dr Snow, my only concern is that he doesn't offer the aftercare insurance. I'm talking to Dr Richardson now because they offer 90 days post op insurance and I'm scared that if I had to be admitted for a complication I'd end up in crazy amounts of medical debt. Since my insurance isn't covering the surgery they won't cover any post op problems.

    Any smokers out there?

Same boat here. My surgeon said that with my BMI and lack of co-morbidities he isn't going to make a big fuss about me quitting, but that I should still try. I'm planning on starting nicotine replacement a couple weeks before my surgery because it seems ridiculous to pay all this money (I'm self paying) to get healthier and keep smoking. I kinda wish he'd said he wouldn't do it unless I quit because that would've been great motivation!
  9. For bypass or sleeve? That was what the insurance paid or self pay? Seems like so much! No kidding. I was quoted $18K here in the states. You are paying insurance company rates. I self pay everything, and get everything much cheaper. I was assuming that was what the insurance paid out on her behalf. It is definitely a lower price if you are paying out of pocket, but insurance will cover almost all of it if they pay.

Ridiculous. My child's OPINION on my situation pre op, does not make it fact! Nor does it change this actual topic. You can't "help" me like a sleeve. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Okay, this is going to be my last post directed towards you specifically. You somehow managed to miss the entire point even though I put it in bold. The point is that now that you're post op you're blaming your weight gain on your situation and specifically saying that you didn't have a problem with food and the entire thing wasn't your fault. When you were pre op, however, you blamed an addiction towards food and said that you couldn't stop overeating. You can't have it both ways, that was the point. It had nothing to do with your daughter. Sounds like you change your story depending on what suits you best. Once again, best of luck.

@@GinaCampbell Here are some direct quotes from you:: "I have not had a long term weight issue, or food issue etc. I was not desperate nor incapable of losing weight either." "I wasn't obese because I ate what I wanted, I became obese following a period of a five year illness which left me bedbound." and this one... "My daughter thinks that I have not given conventional dieting enough of a chance. She feels that I could lose weight normally if I tried harder. I explained that I am addicted to food, cannot stop overeating and that my disability prevents me from exercising. I now am 95% bedbound." If you can't see the obvious contradiction in your own words then you are too far in denial to get yourself any help. You cannot have a different and unreasonable fabrication for every problem. Instead of rudely making one excuse after another to people trying to help maybe you should face up to reality.
  14. Hey folks, I am self pay and I have been seeing a surgeon here but I'm so torn between going with that or saving 10K by going to Mexico. I do HATE flying and I'm afraid the anxiety will be overwhelming once I'm there, but then again... 10K... Has anyone used OCC? What was your experience like? What were the costs? Did most of the staff speak English well? Did they keep on top of pain/nausea, etc? Any info appreciated! Thanks!
  15. Who is your surgeon? My husband 100% vetoed Mexico. I'm sure it's the same fear and bias I had about going there at first but I doubt he's going to budge. Thanks!

    Chewable vitamins ?

I'm going to try some of the vitamin patches. Vitamins always make me nauseated so I'm hoping they work!

Trump is going to help me with my surgery? This has now become my favorite thread. I'm self pay, thanks Obama.

Exactly. Even though most of us just can't resist trying to point out reality to someone so clearly in denial (because we DO want them to have hope) it's also about people who are pre op like me finding some answers about this dreadful situation because we are looking for ALL the facts. I'm glad I found the pre op backstory so I know what caused these problems. Maybe this will help people who are already seriously ill realize that the surgery won't fix everything.

P.S. I am no longer overweight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'm not trying to be cruel, but if your stats are accurate then you are more than overweight, you're still obese. I'm not judging, I'm obese too, but you need to remember the facts. Your obesity is likely contributing to your ongoing issues. For someone who wants to raise awareness you certainly seem to enjoy telling people to stop reading/posting on this thread. We are all sorry you're going though so much pain and regret. I hope you find a good counselor who can help you work through some of this.

Yes, the backstory is right there for everyone who takes the time to look through your old posts and find it. I am interested in everyone's stories and health, but you are not "raising awareness". You're giving 1/2 of a story that starts with you being 95% bedridden with MANY other problems and unable to lose weight by any other means and blaming all these problems on your surgery. You seem to have an excuse for everything as well as a snarky reply that you then pretend is the other person's problem. I suppose misery loves to spread misery (even though you go on and on about how not miserable you are, it's clear to anyone who reads your posts that you are a very unhappy person). I truly hope someday you become more content. Good luck.

Interesting. I've been following this now very long thread because I'm pre op and want to hear all the perspectives. I looked back and found the post in question and you're right, this is the post. She feels that I could lose weight normally if I tried harder. I explained that I am addicted to food, cannot stop overeating and that my disability prevents me from exercising. I now am 95% bedbound. She just sees this surgery as a shortcut to weightloss. Also she feels that after surgery that I will simply overeat again so it won't be successful. No, she is not obese. Thank you all for being so supportive, it really helps. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Gina, it sounds like you had a LOT of health problems before the surgery and now you're trying to scare others away with your horror story but you're not giving the full picture. If you're truly trying to "inform the public", you should include the backstory as well.
  23. So far I've had a physical, an echocardiogram, a psych evaluation, and blood draws for thyroid. I have a lung function test tomorrow, then a gall bladder ultrasound Friday and an endoscopy and drug screening next week. I'm starting to feel like a lab rat, lol. My BMI is 37 and I have no serious co morbidities. I know it's better safe than sorry but I'm just wondering if everyone had so many tests?
  24. My surgeon does the drug testing. I thought it was weird but I don't do any drugs, so whatever. Wow, they really put you through the wringer! Do you have some pre-existing health problems or something? Huh. That is odd, but I likely wouldn't care much either. Haha, yeah, you can definitely say that! My insurance (United Healthcare Community Plan) requires all these tests. What's even more fun is that for each doctor I see, I have to get a referral from my primary care physician. I've never been a big fan of going to the doctors for that reason -- paperwork and phone calls that feel like they go nowhere. Thankfully, I know for sure there will be a reward at the end for all the time I've spent in Dr's offices this year. Sent From BariatricPal App Ugh, that sounds like a NIGHTMARE. I'm self pay so all this crap is ordered by my surgeon. At least I don't have to wait on referrals. I've had a grand total of NINE dr appts in the past 7 days, I had 3 just today. Hopefully only one more!
