11 Weeks Out - Beginning of the Journey
wolfylove replied to Kat410's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Great job you said something that made me think it's so true I don't really feel it when I eat crappy food it's my good food if I eat too much and my stomach hurts. I had my anniversary of one year since surgery on Saturday I'm not at goal but still working on it, sometimes I need to kick myself in the butt to eat better -

How much fluids are you drinking. I was told to drink 64 oz a day. I don't eat 1/2 hr. before or after meals. This helps a lot of time I'm not really hungry, I'm thirsty. -
I go to Costcos and buy there chicken salad put it in 4 oz containers for the week. Then I made Protein balls with 2 scoops Quest Protein powder, 1/2 cup Peanut Butter, 1 tsp vanilla,1/2 cup oats,1 tsp agave and a splash of milk you mix and roll into balls makes 10 balls. 60 cal each, 7 grams of protein I let people at work, try them and they loved them also. Going to try almond butter instead of peanut butter next.

I have BCBS when I first asked if they covered weight loss surgery they said no. Then after I met with my surgeon and then the financial person they ran my insurance and said it was approved they got a approval number. Then 3 weeks before surgery I got a phone call from the financial person at the hospital saying BCBS said they make a mistake and my surgery was not covered. Of course I panicked for an hour and then decided I was still going threw with the surgery. I had to pay $12,000 out of pocket I am 2 weeks post op am glad I did the surgery but pissed off at the insurance company. We will write a letter to the insurance company but I doubt it will go any where. For those that there insurance company paid good for you. For those of you who it will not I personally think the surgery is worth it . I thought about this surgery for the last 12 years thought about gastric bypass but was not a candidate. Then last year heard about gastric sleeve and was a candidate. My surgeon was awesome. I live in florida on the east coast and went 3 hrs away to the west coast for surgery. No complications. The team is very helpful. My surgeon was Dr. Erica Podolski.

I need help keeping this secret!
wolfylove replied to laceemouse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only told a few people so far I don't feel it is everybody's business I am a blabber mouth also but I don't want to hear any negativity. The few that I have told have mainly been supportive. Actually I am very lucky my husband is my biggest supporter. My daughters when I told them were supportive. In the past I had considered bypass they were not supportive of that. -
Stupid things people say when they find out you've had surgery....

What is that first post-op week like?
wolfylove replied to SamPSUfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very tired 1st couple days slept a lot. The lf sided pain was not bad I took tylenol every 6 hours for the first 3 days. Then took once a day for a couple days. The pain was not bad at all did not need narcotics. I was nauseous the first day but zofran took care of it after the 1st day did not need it anymore. My advise is walk as soon as they will let you after surgery. Some people have gas pain after surgery I did not but as soon as they let me walk I did it was 10:30 at night I had my 1st short walk I went into surgery at 1:30 pm. I was a little groogy so I did not walk far the 1st time. But in the morning I got up with my husband and walked as much as I could rested then walked more until they let me go home. -

No energy, five days out

I would double check with your surgeon to make sure you are taking in enough are you just doing protein drinks or are you eating. -
No energy, five days out
wolfylove replied to skinnyjeansatlast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
nutritionist is a good idea, I was tired for the first 1 1/2 weeks one day I would have energy and the next I was exhausted. My nutritionist goes by my weight I was on all Protein drinks for 2 weeks post surgery I had to drink 100 grams of protein she suggested that my Protein powder had 23 gm of protein so she told my to mix 1 1/2 scoops with one cup of low fat almond milk 3 times a day. I used Quest it is very thick and took me a while to get down but very tasty. When I started work I needed something that would not take me 45 min to eat so I bout Premire shakes (not as good tasting) but they are not as thick. They have 30 grams of protein in each drink. Good luck -
What's your experience been with alcohol after surgery?
wolfylove replied to LisaAdams50's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my nutritionist recommended no alcohol for a year (not going to happen) The reason she said this is that the 1st year you lose the most weight after sleeve. I don't plan on drinking much but will be going to Disney food and wine festival in October and I may have a sip or 2 of wine. Not much I want to lose this weight and keep it off. I reached my 1st 20 pound weight loss on thursday which was 2 weeks post op. Of course I lost 9 of those the week before surgery. But I am so excited Im going shopping today my scrub pants are tooooooooo big.
