My question too... Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App Yes the Facebook group is for sleevers also. I requested to join and I got in. The administrator of the group is probably getting a lot of requests, so give her time to respond to your request. It is a good group of ppl, very supportive.

    Any smokers out there?

Hi, I am an ex- smoker (quit this past March). I am having my surgery two days after yours. I am not sure why your doctor said that smoking does not have an affect on your surgery because it can. It can increase your risk for blood clots and increase the time it will take for your wounds to heal. It can also affect your breathing (why your anesthesiologist might be concerned) during and post surgery. I have one suggestion if it will help. What helped me quit smoking was reading "The easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr. It took me 2 days to read and I quit after reading it and have not smoked since. Hope I helped, good luck????
  7. I agree go to the support groups, you will get so much info and you can ask as many questions as you would like. A Co-worker of mine had it done last month and another is a couple years post. Both have been very helpful and supportive in this journey for me. But I also got a lot of info and listened to people's experiences from the support group I attend.

    Any Post-Op Students out there?

@@limesqueeze23, I got my surgery date 9/9 and we go back to class on 9/6. I guess the sooner the better. I'm hoping my clinical instructor would let me take it easy for the most part. We are doing 6 week rotations and then we change over to a new clinical instructor, ugh????. Now that I that I have a surgery date I will be talking our program director before I start classes. I will keep you updated on how that goes????.

    Any Post-Op Students out there?

Hi, I am also in nursing school and am required to complete the clinical component of my class along with everything else. Now I feel that I would be fine attending class but I am not sure about being on-site during clinical where I must be on my feet most of the time during my 6-hour day. Any of you nursing students had issues with this post-op. I do not have a surgery date yet, but I have my insurance approval so I might be looking at the beginning of the fall semester which start in September for my surgery date.

    Vitamin D Deficiency

Hi, Have you had your blood work done as of yet? If not, you can wait until your surgeon get back your blood work results and they can prescribe the correct dosage needed for Vitamin D supplements. I am taking Vitamin D now and I did not even know I was deficient. Hope this helps.
  19. Hi all, I am awaiting insurance approval for my surgery. I started my journey back in March. Because of additional testing, to be cleared for surgery it has caused a delay in what I thought would have happened by now. I was hoping to have my surgery before going back to school for the fall semester starting in September. It looks highly unlikely now☹️. I was wondering if anyone had surgery while in school? I would not be able to take weeks off from classes. The program I am in is highly competitive and it would push my graduation date back a year if I take time off (graduating May 2017). What was your length of time out from work or school after having surgery? I do not want to feel like I have come so far and do all that pre-op testing for nothing.

    Too FAT for GVS?

This is interesting to know because my surgeon suggest that I have the bypass when I really want the sleeve. He said it would be better for my GERD. My everything is leaning toward the sleeve. I am currently 300+ lbs and I was worried that I would not lose enough weight with the sleeve. But thank you.

    Advice from ex smokers?

Hi Cassandramarie93, I quit smoking March of 2016 using the easy way to quit smoking by Allen Carr also. Best decision of my life, it was also the same month that I made the decision to start my journey with weight loss surgery. I knew that I would eventually need to quit before surgery so the sooner the better. I am also a nursing student, so quitting at the time of midterms was extremely stressful. The first week is the hardest but it is doable. Once you decide to quit, continue with it and don't give in to light up ever again. "Anything worth having is worth working hard for". I believe you will be successful after reading the book and good luck to you.
