    Fast food

I'm almost a year post op and I have no issues with full fat mayo. My NUT is not a fan of the fat free trend and she said fat is good for the diet in moderation so I've always been okayed to use full fat condiments. Also an air fryer is a great investment in my opinion. My husband cooks in ours a lot. We also do things like oven baked fries or grilled potatoes when were having burgers, etc.

You know you lost weight when

Of course. I'm currently in a size 10-12 pants and small/medium top. Size 12 dress. I'm current 187 pounds as of this morning. First 2 were October 2016 @ about 275 lbs vs. October 2017 @ 190 lbs 3rd is my highest weight of 301 June 2016 and Thanksgiving day at 188lbs
  3. I've been stalled for 2 months as well. I was worried it was maintenance so I spoke to my nut and she said she didn't believe it was, that it was just a plateau. I switched up my diet (average 1100-1300 calories a day, 50-100 grams of carbs and protein was 60-70), exercise routine and on Monday I started really upping my protein. I'm getting about 90-100 grams now and I've lost a pound in 3 days, finally.
  4. Being able to interact with my kids better and chase them down much easier. Being able to purchase clothing anywhere and not having to pay an upcharge for a plus size. People's reaction when I tell them how much weight I've loss

    Gaining weight back

Truth, that's why I said if she truly gained 20 pounds on the intake she says she has she should see a doctor because that might be an underlying issue or a medication issue if she is taking any medications (some cause weight gain). But having to low an intake can stall you per my NUT and personal experience. Not make you gain for sure, but stall nontheless, so eating to little is not going to help the situation either. If she really is eating what she says she is.

    Upcoming surgery

Everyone is different and there are so many physiological changes that there is no guaranteed or average weight loss amount. Some of the things that can effect it is starting weight, gender, age, height, even ethnicity. I personally lost 35 pounds during the first 12 weeks. As for recipes there are a lot of great sites online that offer recipes for different stages of the diet. Even pintrest has boards with recipes. Just make sure you stick with your plan from your surgeon and follow the stages. As for mashed potatoes they are carbs but your intake is so little in the early stages that it's not going to make a drastic difference. I would add protein powder to everything I ate. Mashed potatoes, cream of wheat and refried beans were all allowed on my pureed diet and something I ate. I didn't start solids until 10 weeks on my plan. I was allowed to go back low impact cardio at 4 weeks and was released for regular exercise around 8-10 weeks I believe. I currently try and hit the gym 3 days a week but some weeks I'm lucky to get there at all. Just stay as active as you can and find little ways to get your steps in especially early out like parking as far away from the door in a parking lot as possible and when I'm shopping I make sure I walk down every aisle even if I don't need anything in that aisle. I also will park at the opposite end of the mall when I need to shop there. In the gym I do swimming, treadmill and elliptical mostly but next year I'm going to start dancing again.

    I have a question?

I still drink one a day and I'm 11 months out. For me higher protein intake equals better weight loss results so I like mine near 100 grams.
  8. I've had no issue tolerating anything thus far except for eggs so if you will be able to tolerate it depends on your stomach really. I took a family vacation 2 weeks after I started solids with my in-laws, sister in law, brother in law, my husband and our kids from NY to Florida and it was difficult to plan ahead but I found that if I stick to protein first there is usually an option. Also crackers are allowed on my plan so again, it all depends on your specific diet plan. I will eat crackers on occasion with no issues if I need a little starch in my diet.
  9. It gets better. I'm 11 months out and I can eat so much more than 4 bites now. I've found a new relationship with food where I still enjoy it but don't live to eat. I try to pick food that packs a lot of flavor in small portions. Think of gourmet food, many times the servings are very small but the food is very good.

    Alcohol

My doctor said 6 months and I waited the 6 months. Alcohol is no issue for me so I don't drink it very often. A glass of wine at special events or dinners is usually it for me. I suggest waiting your surgeons allotted time and then proceed with caution. As mentioned above some people are effected highly by alcohol and some aren't. My tolerance was the same as prior to surgery but I really don't want to waste the calories so that's a decision maker for me.
  11. Mine went crazy after surgery. My periods were super long and heavy. I even went to my GYN about 4 months post op who was going to put me on Mirena to try and regulate (not currently on hormonal birth control) but I decided to wait it out a few months and thankfully about 7-8 months post op I started to regulate.

WHY IS THE SCALE GOING UP

Don't weight yourself everyday, it will make you crazy. My scale fluctuates so crazy if I weigh myself everyday. Gaining 2 pounds in one day is not fat, it's water. Up your fluid intake if you can. Also if your stalled a bit you may need to increase your calories as well. I would stall when they were to low.

    Gaining weight back

I would for sure talk to your doctor if you have gained 20 pounds on such small amount of intake. I would also try and increase what your eating because according to my NUT I should be around 100-1200 calories a day and not be supplementing my protein by 1 year post op. I know every plan is different but I'm concerned your eating to little and you body is holding onto whatever it can at this point.

    Great Low Carb Bread

Follow the advice of your surgeon or nut for sure. My team does not have us follow a super low carb diet personally. My carb goal daily is between 50-100 grams but I try and get those from veggies mostly, though I do eat some bread and pasta on occassion. Carbs effect everyone differently as well. For some people they stall weight loss and trigger cravings, for others they have very little to no effect on cravings and do not have a negative impact on weight loss. You have to find what works for your body when it comes to carb intake.

    Great Low Carb Bread

I also love this bread. It's not as low carb as the one you posted but it's a good alternate if you like a slice of toast in the AM or even want a sandwich on occasion as it's very thin and doesn't fill up my stomach. You can get it right at the grocery store which is nice. The nutrition facts are based on 3 slices as that's a serving size so you have to do a little math. The flavor is good too. https://www.pepperidgefarm.com/product/very-thin-100-whole-wheat-bread/
  16. I stay on track by allowing myself a little of everything on the holiday but staying on track during the rest of the season. It's hard to avoid all the treats around this time of year, especially working in an office, but I remind myself where all those treats and sweets got me and where I want to be (12 pounds from goal today). I also allow myself a little freedom the day of. So for Thanksgiving I had about 3 oz of turkey and a little spoonful of all the sides (yams, broccoli casserole, squash/cheese, stuffing and homemade cranberry sauce.) I split a slice of homemade corn bread with my son and for dessert, a few hours later, I had a small slice of pumpkin pie with cool whip but I just at the pumpkin part and didn't eat the crust. Now it's time to stay on track over the next 4 weeks and avoid all the random Christmas treats being thrown around.

    My sleeve hates me

Nausea can be completely normal for some. It could also be a side effect from the Anesthesia medicine. I had nausea for about 2 days that wore off gradually and it was from the anesthetic as I've had it in the past with other surgeries. Congrats on your sleeve, this is a new beginning for you.

    Thanksgiving

I'm glad everyone got through the holiday okay. I'm 11 months post op so I had a little different situation as I could eat what ever I want. I tried to stick to my plan as much as possible. I had turkey and then a little bit of yams, broccoli casserole, stuffing and cranberry sauce. I shared a piece of cornbread with my 4 year old and I did have a few bites of pumpkin pie that I shared with my daughter. All in all everything went well.
  19. I had an appendectomy in 2008. The pain mostly was around my belly button and radiated outward. I actually had the pain for about 6 months, had gone to the doctor originally and they though I was having a reaction to something I ate. It would happen off and on over the next few months then in April 2008 it got so bad I ended up in the ER at 3Am. Originally they told me I was constipated but I insisted on a CT Scan and they determined it was appendicitis and I went in for emergency surgery a few hours later (it was a holiday so they had to call in the on-call team)

Tall Women, Tell Me Your Story!

5'10" here. My HW was 301 in July 2016, SW was 271 on 12/30/16. I'm currently bouncing between 188 and 190. My surgeons goal is 170-175 with about 5 pounds of bounce back. I would love to get to 170 and maintain. I'm currently in a size 10-12 and a medium top from a 22W and 2XL. I've also lost a shoe size.
  23. I'm almost 11 months out and I have been stalled since 10/2, so almost 2 months bouncing between 188-190 but sitting most days at 189. My NUT told me to get my caloric intake up to 1200 as quickly as possible and to sit there until maintenance. I've been getting 1200 calories since about 6 months post op and was losing well until 9 months when I hit this stall. I called my NUT and she said do not lower my calories to just stay the course and that I should break the stall. She said a plateau is common at nearly a year out. I've changed what I'm eating up and my exercise around trying to shock my body into losing again but it hasn't worked yet (just started this week). Starting next week I'm going to add a supplement to get my protein intake back up to 100 grams and increasing my water intake. I'm currently 15ish pounds from my total 5 year goal my surgeon set so I'm doing well in their eyes but I wanted to just hit that goal and start maintaining by my year anniversary (12/30/17). Sometimes I think we are harder on ourselves than we need to be as well. I'm the lightest I've been since I was in early high school (13-14 years old) and I've hit my original goal weight (190) and clothing size (10-12 from a 22)

Do I really need a NUT?

I found my NUT to be highly important to my progress and I've seen her 4 times since surgery and call her if I have any issues. Do you need a NUT? No but I've found that my NUT is more helpful when it comes to diet than my surgeon and my PCP. My biggest concern would be your protein intake. You weightloss is great, amazing even, but you don't want to start to lose muscle mass or damage your organs by long term lack of protein. I would say focus on getting a high daily protein intake and you will be golden. Supplement if you really need to, I'm almost 11 months post op and I still drink a shake a day.
