    Calories

My NUT/Surgeon will not give me calorie goals. I'm sitting at about 1200 calories a day at 9 months out and still losing. 10 pounds from goal so slowly upping my calorie intake. I've asked my NUT several times where my calories should be and she just told me to make good choices and it won't matter.
  2. I was on a Fentanyl drip for about 24 hours post surgery. It was a PCA so I controlled when I got the meds. Once I was given my leak test and allowed to drink they switched me to Norco tabs which is basically Viocoden. I mostly took it at night to sleep after the first couple days home.
  3. I am 9 months out and I have no issues with carbonation though I don't drink soda. I do drink seltzer from time to time and will occasionally have a hard cider.
  4. I wish my doctor had warned me about having a drain ( I wasn't told I would have one) and that would be worst of the pain I had. That weight loss can be painfully slow one month and crazy fast the month. Mine was never steady. I would go weeks and only lose a few pounds then bam, lost like 10 in a couple days. How scary moving onto solids can be, I wanted so badly to move onto the next stages then when it was time I was so afraid to actually eat something. How normal I would feel 6 months later, and even better at 9 months.

    Social eating

I'm 9 months out currently so eating out isn't much of an issue. I've found that I eat a "normal" amount of food compared to many of my girlfriends. Most of my close friends know I had the surgery so there isn't any weirdness but if I go out with work people or family who doesn't know I just usually say that I'm not super hungry. My go to meals now are a burger with no bun and veggies instead of fries, grilled chicken with veggies or something off the lighter fare menu that many restaurants now have.

    Nobody ever responds

I'm 9 months post op currently. Per my NUT right now I'm eating about 90 grams of protein a day with 100 grams of carbs. This personally is working for me but many people eat far less carbs. Also my NUT wants me to start moving from a heavy protein based diet to a even vegetable/protein diet as I approach goal (I'm 10 pounds away currently). So right now I'm eating about 6 ounces of food with 3-4 ounces of it protein per meal. As I get closer to a cup of food per meal she wants me eating 2-3 ounces protein, 3-4 ounces veggie an 1-2 ounces starch per meal Also she stresses that starches are an important part of the diet so I make sure I'm still eating starch with each meal, but only about 1 oz currently.

    Popcorn

Popcorn is not a slider for me personally, I can eat maybe a handful and that's more than enough for me. Also I wasn't a huge fan of popcorn pre-surgery, I can take it or leave it, so I don't eat it often anyway but when I do it sits fine. I also eat between 90-110 grams of carbs a day per my surgeon and NUT.

You know you lost weight when

When you purchase skinny jeans for the first time just to wear with boots and realize they actually look really good on you

You know you lost weight when

When you take your child to a baseball game for the first time in years and you comfortably fit into the stadium seats. When you come into work and your cubical mate looks at you and says "wow look at you skinny" and she sees me every day

    Family having pizza tonight!!

It's really good! Also I loved refried beans with some salsa and melted cheese on top and homemade chili ran through the blender.

    Clothing Size

I think there are more factors than just weight too though. How you carry the weight and your height factor in as well. For me personally I'm tall and I carry my weight largely in my arms and mid abdomen so people often think I'm smaller than I actually am.

    Low carb wraps

I actually ran eating these by my NUT and she was okay with it. She said to count NET carbs due to the fiber so I think everyone NUT and plan is a little different. Also my food tracker counts both the NET and the Straight carbs so I can see how much I'm getting of straight carbs vs. the net carbs.

    Clothing Size

I'm currently 194lbs at 5'10". I'm currently wearing a M/L top (depending on brand, 12/14 in pants and a size 12 in dress. I started at 301 pounds and wearing a 22 pant, 2XL tops and size 20/22 dress. I also remember seeing somewhere that the size difference between sizes is larger in Plus than Straight sizes so it might take you longer to change sizes in plus. For example I wore a size 22 from about 270-300 pounds but once I hit a straight size 16, I've gone down much quicker.

Ladies: The Body differences when you are slimmer

Having collar bones all the time was a big shock for me. Not having to raise my shoulders or stand a certain way to make them appear. Same with being able to feel my hip bones when I put my hands on my hips. Sometimes I still rub my hands over them because it's so weird. I wish my belly button would come out but I have a B shaped belly and have a big spare tire of loose skin right around my middle above my waist despite a 100+ pound weight loss. I've always carried my weight in my "upper belly" but I was hoping it would even out. I wanted to get my belly button pierced.

    Back to Shakes?

My NUT says to vary your macros to shock your body into moving again and that works for me. I will up my calories for a few days, drop them down low for a couple days (those would be shake as meal days) and then bring it back up to where I was maintaining previously. Usually if I do 5-7 days of this, my stall will break.

    Family having pizza tonight!!

So it's not exactly the same as pizza but Ricotta Bake filled my pizza craving when I was on pureed and even after before I took the plunge and tried pizza again. You could melt some shredded cheese on top and even add pepperoni or turkey sausage when you are further out and allowed meats. Around 12 weeks post op I tried thin crust pizza and had no issues digesting it. I now eat pizza about twice a month but can only eat 1 slice without the crust. It's my treat when I have it and I take into account when I'm planning my other meals of the day.
  17. I don't drink coffee, never have but I do drink Unsweetened black tea everyday. I cannot stand artificial sweeteners and I was having an issue getting my water down so my NUT suggested unsweetened tea. I drank decaf in the early days but after 6 months have switched to caffeinated and it hasn't had a negative effect on me personally but everyone is different.

    I regret this surgery

I think a bit of remorse is part of the healing process. That idea of having to let go of something we loved and depended on for so long, it's like losing a loved one in a way. I too had my fair share of remorse early on, especially in the weeks following surgery but it got better once I started soft solids. Just being able to sit down with my family and eat what they were eating, albeit a very small amount, made me feel leaps and bounds more like myself. Those first 3 months were the hardest, I wanted so badly to jump back into my normal life but then I would end up in social events that involved food I couldn't eat but wanted to so badly and I would feel I ruined my life. Or I would awkwardly eat my pureed lunch at work and feel like everyone was staring at me or I would be standing in an aisle of the grocery store obsessively counting calories and being terrified of eating the wrong thing. I thought it was a mistake because I was healthy (fairly) before and being 300 pounds wasn't so bad because I carried it well right.....WRONG. It does get better and this new life is so amazing. I'm under 200 pounds for the first time in my adult life. I fit in better in social situations because I eat very similarly to my girlfriends instead of being the only one to clear her plate. I am more active, my body feels better and looks better and my lab work was perfect. The struggle in the beginning is worth the reward of a new you in the end. Also I can literally eat anything. I still enjoy my favorite foods in moderation. I still eat burgers (without the bun), I still eat pizza (1 slice vs. 4 slices), I ate a donut this weekend at our local Cider Mill and 1 was enough, I used to eat a whole bag. Don't eat food that is bad for you all the time but don't think it can never happen again. There may be things you find you need to avoid but that is different for everyone and you will discover what works for you and maybe find new favorites along the way (Hello Brussels Sprouts).

    Sleeve vs RNY

My surgeon does an upper endoscopy to determine if you have GERD prior to surgery. If you have any signs of it on the endoscopy, even if you are a-symptomatic, they will not do a VSG on you.

How do I stop eating so fast?

I don't eat slow, I wouldn't say I inhale my food but I eat at a normal pace of most of those around me. I don't feel as though it has a negative effect on my as long as I'm measuring and watching my portions.

    I think I've messed up.

Hey OP I agree that watching for symptoms of a leak after your moment of weakness is important and calling your surgeon with any concerns as well but I will offer a little reassurance as you genuinely sound scared. This is scary procedure and process and we make mistakes as we are all human. You admit and know you made said mistake and that's the important part. Don't' do it again. Per my program we started pureed foods at that two week mark. We were allowed pureed pasta and chicken. I advocate for following your plan but also want you to know that your mistake does not equate to sudden death. Listen to your body, watch for symptoms, be in contact with your surgeon and make sure you are getting the mental help, be it whatever works for you, you need to face cravings and not give in. We are all a work in progress!
  22. My surgeon gave me a range he thought I could sit comfortably in which was 175-190 based on my height and build. I'm currently bouncing between 192-195 so I'm pretty close. He also stated he did not want me below 170 as he thinks it would be to drastic for my frame. My NUT based her goal on the percentage of excess fat that people typically lose with the sleeve and I've surpassed that already so according to her if I went into maintenance now I would be "successful".
  23. Yes it was before 8 months. I would say for me personally I felt much better by 4-6 weeks post op. I never had any issues major issues other than eating felt uncomfortable at first and having to remember to take my time and adjust my eating to how I was feeling. If it didn't sit well, I found something else and came back to it. I started solids at 10wks and I would say I was eating normally by 12-13 weeks.
  24. Stunning! Love that blue and white dress. I'm 20 pounds from goal and I feel like I'm never going to get there, I'm loosing so slow these days. Slow and steady I guess! Plus my stomach looks a mess.

It's official - Eggs make me sick

I can't eat eggs either and it's gotten worse as I've moved further out post op. When I was doing pureed I ate egg salad a lot but now at 8 months out if I eat eggs I get instant cramps and usually loose stools. Its unfortunate because I love eggs.
