Anyone have gallbladder removed after VSG?
Sullie06 replied to sleevedshereen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm going to be having mine out but I'm trying to hold off until February. I don't have any stones, mine just isn't working properly so my surgeon says we can push it out as long as I see him every 3 months until then. What my surgeon told me is the recovery should be easier, he said I should only need 1 week off of work and that the scars will be minimal. I had a lap appy back in 2008 and you can't even see the scars from that anymore and I had 3. He did say that it might effect what I can eat but the foods it would effect I shouldn't be eating anyway. -
I love the Atkins shakes. I drink one a day to supplement a little extra protein and they are one of the few brands that don't have that awful protein taste.

Do u count protein and carbs??
Sullie06 replied to Dolcy1182's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm at about 1200 calories a day currently. I typically get 70-90 grams of protein and 90-100 grams of carbs per my NUT. I lost about 1-2 pounds a week typically and have lost 86 pounds since surgery. -
Looking for sleevers with 10+ years postop
Sullie06 replied to Mersh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know that she had some of them pulled so she could get dentures once they started breaking and falling out but I agree. I think her oral hygiene wasn't the best and they were probably on the downslide already. She will tell anyone and everyone that it's the fault of the bypass though. -
I was allowed popcorn starting at 12 weeks. I've had it several times since then with no issues. I'm not a huge popcorn person but when I do make it I make it on the stove with some coconut oil.

Looking for sleevers with 10+ years postop
Sullie06 replied to Mersh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am only 9 months post op so I'm no help on the long-term sleeve question but I do have a story. I have an associate from a local Mom group who had RNY a few years back and within a year had lost all her teeth. She's around the same age as me, mid 30s and it terrified me as I was already throwing around the idea of surgery. I asked my doctor and NUT this question when I went in for a consult and both said that likely there were multiple factors at play here. She could genetically have bad teeth, she might have poor oral hygiene and she was very likely not taking her vitamins or supplements. I saw her last week, she had gained back all her weight plus some so I'm guessing she wasn't compliant with treatment post surgery which makes me feel better about my own oral health because I'm very rigid about it. My parents spent 6500 dollars on my braces, back in the early 90s, so I don't want to mess my teeth up. I've been to the dentist twice since my surgery and my teeth look great thus far. Just take those vitamins and get calcium whenever you can. Plus if you have an acid issue speak to the doc about meds. -
Once you eat a denser protein you will feel it. Chicken triggers my restriction hard personally and so does steak. Eggs never triggered restriction for me and now I can't eat them at all as they don't sit well.

I only lose about 1 pound a week
Sullie06 replied to fling0228's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I on average lose about 4-7 pounds a month and have been since I've gone back on regular foods at 12 weeks post op. I'm now 9.5 months out and have lost 86 pounds total since surgery. Slow and steady is a great way to go according to my NUT, losing is losing. Also just because the scale isn't moving much, check your measurements. I lost a lot measurement wise early on. I went from a size 20 at surgery to a size 14 by 4-5 months out and have now been sitting at a 12-14 for 4 months. -
Feeling very defeated!!!!
Sullie06 replied to Doreen0716's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was driving myself crazy on the scale so I understand wanting to weigh everyday but it really is a better view to do so once a week or even once a month if you have the strength to do so. For example my weight day is Monday and yesterday I was 185, I just stepped on the scale and I'm 189. My doc said you can fluctuate up and down as much as 5 pounds day to day -
I would not have had the surgery personally if I couldn't have the sleeve. The whole idea of malabsorption made me very uncomfortable. I have found that I just don't have a taste for sweet things anymore now post surgery. It is likely more a mental thing but it works for me.

Are you weighing yourself everyday? If so, stop, at least for now because you will make yourself crazy. I weigh myself once a week so I don't see as much fluctuation day to day. Also I found that eating several small meals per day helped me meet my goals much better nutrition wise. Honestly, I did not start losing weight well until I upped my calories and protein intake personally. I still can't eat very large meals but I can eat several small meals to help me meet my goals. -
Calories at 4 months
Sullie06 replied to Emailkariann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was right around 900 calories at 3-4 months post op. I'm now about 1100-1300 at 9.5 months out. -
I don't track fats at all either but I try to avoid a lot of bad fats. I'm 9 months post op, down 86 pounds from surgery (116 total) and 10 pounds from my initial goal. Also I rarely lose more than 10 pounds a month so I think 7 in 3 weeks is good. I've found that my weightloss has no rhythm to it. This past month I was stalled a week, lost 1 pound the next week, 1 pound the following week and 4 the next. I weigh myself once a week

Just ate a lot - scared
Sullie06 replied to KaiserKid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've noticed I can eat more in the past month than I could before. Still not a whole sandwich, where I could eat 2 whole ones before, but pretty close if that's all I'm eating. I think it's just a natural part of the process as you move out from surgery. -
What do you “EAT”
Sullie06 replied to Excitedforthesleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on clear liquids in the hospital so days 1-3 (discharged on day 3) and then Full liquids until my follow up so about a week and a half. I would eat broth, cream soups strained and protein shakes. I liked the Atkins Protein Drinks and GNC Lean Protein Shakes. -
Unsweetened Iced Tea is now my go to drink when I want something other than water. I used to hate unsweetened tea! Now sweet beverages like lemonade and sweet tea are so gross to me.

I get mild nausea from the Anesthesia. I never used to but the last 2 surgeries I have had I had minor Nausea. I was nauseous for about 12 hours with this surgery, they gave me Zofran to combat it. I've had no issues with nausea since then. I'm 9 months post op and the only time I threw up was during a stomach bug at 7 months post op.

Are you taking pain meds still? It could be the narcotics.

Food help please!
Sullie06 replied to willowwaters's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Refried beans with a little salsa was a go to for me. Also pureed shredded chicken with some chicken broth to soften it up and cream of wheat or baby oatmeal with milk but you could also do it with water since your lactose free (or lactaid/nut milk). -
What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?
Sullie06 replied to SassyScienceNerd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I take pre-natal vitamins. Per my doctor they are one of the best combinations a woman can take and she suggests prenatals for all her female patients pregnant or not. Since I took them with no issue when I was pregnant I just kept taking the same ones. -
What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?
Sullie06 replied to SassyScienceNerd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My NUT said the same thing about the carbs and protein. She told me at my last visit with her that I should start shifting my diet from a protein heavy diet to a vegetable heavy diet for long term maintenance. -
Prior to my VSG I swore I would never wear skinny jeans. The couple times I tried them on in the past was not a joyful experience. If I was lucky enough to get them above my calves they did nothing for my figure. I would wiggle around trying to get them on and then feel like an udder shame when I looked in the mirror. I was solidly a boot cut jean type of girl. Well..... I not only found a pair that fit but I love the way they look on my figure. Also, I'm wearing white! White is not a forgiving color, I've always been a black/dark solids girl but not anymore!

I was just wondering if any of you ladies find you need more calories during your cycle. My cycles are really heavy and a week long. By the middle of my cycle I feel weak and tired if I don't increase my consumption and my NUT said that I might need more nutrition due to the increased blood loss during my cycle. It's insane though, I average about 1100-1300 calories a day normally but this week I've been averaging 1500-1600. I've been adding iron rich foods at the insistence of my NUT. I just didn't know if this was normal?
