This doesn't hurt near as bad as a CSection. Plus, you don't have to come home and take care of a newborn. Much easier. The downside? You don't come home to lots of home-cooked casseroles and desserts from friends.

Day 3 after surgery is always the worst--from what I have heard and experienced. Today is day 4 for me, and it is definitely a better day than yesterday. I just want to be like 6 months out and look back on these days and not remember how miserable they were.

How soon can I go back to school after banding??
penturn replied to Shauna80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you'll be fine to sit there. You probably won't feel like a very long walk to get there --especially if there is extreme heat. I am day 4 post op, and the heat gives me nausea. I think you'll feel fine--just prepare to feel hungry. -
Hi Mary, You are lucky that things have happened so quickly. I started the process last August, and I just finally had surgery this week. I too have BCBS--but in Alabama. I am also a teacher and have to be back at work on August 4th. This is day 4, and I am still pretty miserable. I'm not in pain, but I am weak and hungry. I have moments of regret, but I definitely feel like I have done the right thing. I just want to get through the next 10 days until I can eat mushy foods. All I can think about is food.

Newly Banded and Afraid of Dehydration
penturn replied to tottie1990's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am right there with you all too. I was banded Tuesday, and I am afraid of dehydration. I just can't make myself drink enough. I had looked forward to starting protein supplements today, but I can't choke it down. I did have 4oz. of Carnation instant breakfast, and it was delicious and seemed to give me some strength. -
Just got banded on 7/16/08
penturn replied to Donna113's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on the 15th, and I was hungry the following day and have been ever since. I did not have to do a pre-op diet, so this is all brand new to me. All I can think about is food. -
Mellimel, This is the third time I have tried to respond. Something keeps kicking me out and erasing my message. This time I'll be more brief--just in case it happens again. I'm not having a problem with gas, but I am weak and hungry and pretty darn miserable. I had read that a lot of people deal with depression post op, but I thought it wouldn't happen to me. I thinking maybe it has. I'm gonna spend some time reading some posts and try to get reinspired. Let's hang in there.

Dressings, Wounds & Showers!
penturn replied to Me1e's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 2 days ago, and I showered yesterday. I have staples, but my doctor's orders were to take off the bandaids and wash the wounds with warm, soapy Water. They look fine. I don't have stockings, so I can't help you there. Sounds miserable. Hang in there. That's all we can do right now. -
So all you 15thers. . . anyone out there ready to talk about it yet? Pretty rough, huh? I may sit down later today and type out all the details to share with everyone. I'll be interested in seeing how our stories compare.

I have to be there tomorrow at 5:15. Surgery scheduled for 7:00. I can't believe it is finally here. I love the roller coaster analogy. Good luck and God bless you all. Pen

Anesthesia need advice please
penturn replied to choopie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Like you, I am also nervous. My surgery is Tuesday, and I am scared of being put to sleep. I have had several surgeries, but I have never been put completely under. I don't know if you are a person of faith, but I have really been praying about this. I am at peace with my decision to do this. I am much more scared of being fat for my whole life than being put to sleep for 45 minutes, but I can't help be a little anxious. I will be thinking about you tomorrow. You will be fine. I'm right behind you on Tuesday. -
What kind of Protein Shakes do you use? I want to have several types on hand next week.
-
Have you lost all 14 pounds since surgery, or was part of it pre-op? That's great!

I thought it would never get here--now I'm thinking, "I wish I had done this or that before now--or eaten this or that before now." I'm really very excited and ready to have it behind me. I started this process back in August of last year, and it is finally becoming a reality. I think my family and friends are a little tired of hearing about it. My post-op diet is as follows: clear liquids until day 4 full liquids from day 4-14 mushies from day 14-28 regular food after day 28 I keep sitting down to make a grocery list, and I can't even wrap my brain around only liquids. I want to come home from surgery and be fully stocked on everything I might need, but I don't know where to begin. My nutrition class teacher strongly recommends Carnation Instant Breakfast with no added sugar. I will also be able to add whey protein even in the first three days, so that should help take the edge off of the hunger. I'm excited and nervous.
-
I have already done my required nutrition class. My doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet, thank goodness. Just one day of clear liquids on the day prior to surgery. As far as I know, the only thing I have left to complete before the day of surgery is my final consultation with the surgeon on the 10th. I hate to admit it, but I am spending a lot of time cooking. I keep thinking of things that I love that I may not be able to have again for a long, long time, so I just cook them. I have also been working really hard organizing and cleaning my house. (A lot like the nesting stage before having a baby!) I want to come home to a clean, neat, organized house and be able to relax. With all the things I'm trying to do before surgery date, the time is really going very quickly.

My surgery date is the 15th as well. We'll have to lend one another support. I'm a little nervous---but very ready to get started. Good luck. Penny

I have just been approved (finally!!) by BCBS of Alabama, but I still have to wait over a month for my surgery date. I was led to believe that pictures could possibly serve as proof of obesity if there were no doctor records. Maybe you could use the medical records you have and fill in the gaps with pictures. Just a thought.
