Epiphany: body dismorphic disorder
CVanPelt replied to still me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still pre-op but I've lost nearly 50#. I didn't really see a difference until 40# lost. Losing a little bit all over your body disguises how much you lost total. I also realized I was definitely stuffed into smaller pants than I should have been wearing. I'm finally down a size and in need of a smaller belt though Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -

Eating to cope with loss/ fill void
CVanPelt posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my orientation day at the weight loss center yesterday. Tentative surgery is November 7th ???? After some time talking with their behaviorist and going over notes from my psychological evaluation, she feels that I use food to fill a void from losing my dad to cancer when I was 5. I have been overweight since I was 5 and my dad is still a topic that is still hard for me to discuss. The behaviorist is worried that this link between food and my emotions could continue and sabotage my future weight loss. I have thought for the longest time about going to a psychologist over the emotions associated with my dad, but I have never really linked that with weight issues as an adult.... Anyone else have similar problems? How did you cope? Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -

What are the first foods to try in week 4
CVanPelt replied to CVanPelt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't heard what my Drs plan will be exactly. I think they were waiting to get insurance approval before they worried about all of the details. I just know I don't have the 4 weeks of pre-op liquids they talked about cuz I'm down 40# since my seminar in February Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -

I read somewhere that there are hormones stored in fat, so losing fat means releasing hormones. Ain't that a witch lol Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

If everything goes as planned I'm having surgery October 3rd and have a mandatory work conference November 1-3. The conference is in the 5th week post-op so hopefully I'll know what I can and can't handle. I will tell the conference team/hotel staff about needing softer foods, but what were some friendly and some not-so-friendly foods you tried during weeks 4-5? Might help me tell the hotel what I can and cannot have while I'm there. More than likely I will take my own food too, just in case. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -
You look great! If I can get a smoother back like you it'll be mission accomplished for me lol my biggest pet peeve about being over weight is my back fat rolls ???? Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Couple of days no heavy lifting? Try nothing heavier than a gallon of milk for 30 days! Better buy a couple bags of dog food now! You need clear liquids- broth, Jello etc and Protein shake mix to begin with. Don't go crazy. You will want to get out of the house by the time your clear liquids are over, and can start buying "mushy" foods then. Besides, walking around in the grocery store is good exercise post op! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App For Protein Shake I've been using a sixx star powder adding almond milk, ice, and fruit and blending it. I just wanted to see what I liked and that seems good to me or using a chocolate powder, PB2, almond milk and ice is that good enough or do I have to buy pre-made shakes? All happening so quickly!
CVanPelt replied to futureskinnybtch's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do the 6 month visits and the annoying part was my monthly visits were a 45min drive. My Dr recommended me to weight watchers though and I actually did really well! She kept me in check with my goals and I lost 40# in those 6 months I'm scheduled for October 3rd now! Which is faster than I thought as well Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -

I was told the same thing. I lost 40# during my 6 month Dr supervised program and they only needed me to lose 15#. Granted I've gained 5# back in the last 6 weeks or so.... I should be okay for surgery which sounds like it will be next month Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

So my insurance info was sent in on Wednesday and I just got a letter saying they approved me for October 3rd ???? yay for getting approved! But now I have questions.... I had no idea they had me planned for October 3rd! I can probably make it work but I know the Dr office wants me in for 4 weekly pre-op visits before surgery and there aren't even 4 weeks until October 3rd! Hmmmm.... At least I can make the date work in my calendar, which was a pleasant shock. I should get some food for my post-surgery needs. I read you can't do heavy lifting for several days after so I know I need to stock up on dog food... But what else did you guys do to prepare for after surgery? Sick leave or vacation?
CVanPelt replied to CVanPelt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just looking at my calendar through December I really don't have 2-3 weeks to be gone unless I do the surgery the week before Christmas... Then I will have almost 2 weeks off for our winter break anyways.... If my Dr even does surgery around Christmas lol luckily since I have lost 40# they said I don't have to do pre-op liquids so I could at least enjoy thanksgiving lol Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App -
Sick leave or vacation?
CVanPelt replied to CVanPelt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 44 sick days available so I will have to call HR and see what I need to do. They say it can be used "when an employee isn't feeling well from injury or illness"... Hopefully this is close enough? They just started covering WLS this year so I'd hope they'd allow it... Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
