I'm going to revive this, especially as I'm getting close to my surgery. Any people in Atlanta?

Pre-Op Cold Feet Due to Family's WLS Disapproval :(
Kestrael replied to Vagrant Violet's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am scheduled for December 19th, and while my mom has been very supportive, I have faced a little bit of questioning from my dad and husband. I bring this up because some of what your sister said sounds a bit like what I'm hearing from the men in my life. Chances are she is saying it, not because she doesn't want you to be healthy, but because she is afraid for you. As a fellow person who has struggled with clinical depression (and self-injury) as well as a few cases in my life where I have not followed through on something (y'know, if you ignore everything I have followed through with!), I was also frustrated at the seeming reluctance of people close to me. Your sister is probably concerned for your safety, your mental well-being, and perhaps selfishly how it will effect her when you are all together. I firmly believe she will get over it. But, you need to do what's right for you! Don't back out if this is what you want and need. She is probably dealing with her own fears and worries right now for you. I know that doesn't make it easier, but they love you! On that note, I am telling the rest of my family this week at Thanksgiving (two sisters know already...worried about the third and grandma) and my husband's mother (she will not be pleased, but again, I think it is more out of worry for how it could effect me and how it will effect her) in the next week or two. But, remember, you have everyone here as well! -
calling all December 2016 sleevers!
Kestrael replied to OhHeyMarina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I officially got my surgery date, and it is December 19th! I'm super excited! =] -
I didn't need any history of weight problems for Aetna. All I need was the NUT visits, doctor letter, psych eval, and no net weight gain in the 3 months. Are you sure you need the weight history?

It looks like mine is going to be towards the end of November! =] -
Aetna insurance in Georgia
Kestrael replied to SouthernSpinoza's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Another Georgian! =] I am new to this process as well (almost on Month 2 of my 90 day diet/exercise thing for Aetna), and I am going through Atlanta Bariatrics with Dr. Johnson. I really like him so far, and his office has been great. -
Anyone in education getting sleeved?
Kestrael replied to almost_sleeved123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't scheduled mine yet, but I plan on taking off at the end of November. As several other people have mentioned here, you should never feel bad or guilty about taking time to take care of yourself, and this is one of those times where we need to take care of ourselves. =] -
Anyone kept their procedure a secret?
Kestrael replied to FatboyNYC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey! I need to finish all of my pre-op requirements first, but there are a lot of people in my life who don't know about it. My parents and my husband know, and one of my three sisters know. Most likely the two others will find out (because, if insurance cooperates, then I will be having surgery around Thanksgiving), but I am keeping it a secret from most people in my life. Some of it is shame for me, but some of it is just that this is a personal decision. My body, my choice! =] -
Anyone else just starting this journey
Kestrael replied to Frenchie1977's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey! I'm pretty new on this journey as well. I had my first appointment back in the middle of July, and my insurance requires 4 months of visits for nutrition and exercise, so I have until about October before the requirements are finished. I still have to do the psych evaluation for surgery, but I am excited to be beginning! =] Best of luck to all of you lovely people. ^^
