I agree... my tastes are completely different post-banding, too... I have always liked tea, but post-banding, I prefer tea over coffee now... it is REALLY interesting, isn't it?

Band With the Sleeve, anyone do both???
kgloverii replied to Michella08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh, I totally agree with you on the statistics. I am just saying that when you're only a month out, not having real restriction, it is a little early to be thinking about another surgery. -
I totally relate with you... I am in a size 8, and still fight this feeling on a daily basis... I see the flab in the mirror, and then sometimes, see myself out of the corner of my eye in the mirror and am ummm... shocked that it is ME. I don't know if my brain will totally catch up... but I keep reminding myself...

I have reflux occasionally when sleeping... I have heard of people using a wedge pillow. DH bought us a sleep Number Precision comfort bed with the incline feature that has been a Godsend. Try the wedge and see how you do...

Do you see any subconscious changes in SO post-weight loss?
kgloverii posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had to post this, because a funny thing happened last night. To preface this, let me give you some history: I have been married for 8 years, and I have always considered our marriage GOOD. We've had ups and downs, but our love has ALWAYS been there and we are both best friends... Since I've lost weight, our relationship has gotten better, though. I have more confidence and tell it more like it is, and DH is much more attracted to me. So, he is 'nicer' when it comes to things. He subconsciously picks up more around the house without grumbling. He is just less of a grumbler... So, last night, we had a couple hours without our daughters and went out for dinner. I am an admitted foodie, so we went to a nice 'foodie' type place and I ordered some AMAZING chicken breast with a cherry sauce made with 3 types of Traverse City Cherries. It was to DIE for, and I only ate like 5 bites. The appetizer was an oriental coleslaw that was divine and I loved not even CONSIDERING eating it all. After we were done, DH did something he NEVER did... He asked for the dessert menu. We ordered a dessert to share, and I savored every bite, but didn't make a big deal of the ordering of dessert. After we left I 'called him on it' and said how he NEVER ordered dessert before. And after thinking about it, he honestly admitted he wouldn't have done it before, when I was heavy, cause he didn't want to help contribute to my weight problem. It is funny because now that I am thin, dessert is 'ok.' Kind of an oxymoron. LOL. He freely admitted that it was just a subconscious change in thought, the ordering of dessert, and I do believe him. Anybody else seen any humorous changes in your SO's perspective? -
Do you see any subconscious changes in SO post-weight loss?

My DH bought me a whole new wardrobe from Ann Taylor for Christmas... Loves to dress me now. But it does worry me... my weight loss has slowed, but I am still shrinking... so I might have to get my 8's altered to 6's in a short time... -
Was this all a big waste of time...?
kgloverii replied to RANIA32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1.6 in a 10 cc band is hardly any restriction. You can eat and drink your way around that easily. My first fill in my 10 cc band was 4 ccs. I only had small restriction them. Inamed's guidelines are 3-4 ccs for the first fill on a 10 cc band... Keep getting fills regularly until you get to a restricted level. And in the mean time, exercise and remain positive. The band surgery alone is NOT the answer... the fills and exercise you get are... -
Band With the Sleeve, anyone do both???
kgloverii replied to Michella08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You were just banded a little over a month ago. You are putting the cart before the horse. You have not experienced restriction... Restriction is what REALLY produces weight loss. I know you want to lose weight, but you're going to have to be patient. This process is NOT overnight. You will have slow losses and frustrations. But, if you participate in your aftercare, get fills as needed, etc, you WILL have success. Don't go jumping off the Band Wagon just yet... And no, you can't have both. One or the other. So, follow the band rules and enjoy your steady weight loss. -
A lot of people think it is this crazy, icky thing, but my ENT suggested it (before I had unsuccessful sinus surgery) and it has been a godsend. I told my mom about it too, and she SWEARS by it. She is immuno-suppressed and her transplant doctor said it is a great thing to help her stay healthy. Anyone I have ever told about it has thought it was weird, and then they try it and can't believe they didn't try it sooner. Glad you see the value in it!

I'm Freaking Out; I'm Freaking Out; I'm Freaking Out; I'M FREAKING OUT!!!!
kgloverii replied to Oblong's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You need to calm down. Surgery is NOT that far away.... if you choose to follow the rules, buy into your aftercare, and eat the RIGHT foods, and get off your butt and exercise, you CAN be successful. HIGHLY successful. I chose the surgery because I was tired of the ups and downs of losing weight. I was tired of the constant hunger, the constant battle... I did the right things... I DO the right things... and I am within spitting distance of my goal. Side effects of the Band are there. BUT if you maintain the proper fill level, if you eat correctly, those are minimal. You are not destined to be fat. You are changing your destiny right now. -
I have sinus issues as well, so I know what you're going through... I've found that washing out my sinuses daily has REALLY made a HUGE difference... I also don't get sick NEARLY as often... This is what I use and it is a God send... NeilMed Pharmaceuticals, Makers of Sinus Rinse, NasaFlo Netipot, Nasal Irrigation

Kammy, Just sent an email! -K -
WHY has your doctor suggested the bypass over the band? It is NOT always a money issue for them, a lot of doctors have legitimate reasons for pushing certain patients to Bypass over the band. Talk to your doctor and have them re-explain their point of view on the Bypass vs. the Band. Explain your concerns. Whatever decision you make, you want to go in 100% comfortable that you are making the right decision.

Amen on the pickles. Try them later on in the day....

Most individual plans exclude weight loss surgery, I am sorry to say.

No point in going hungry. You probably just need a tiny tweak. It happens to everyone over time. Go get a tiny tweak to take away that hunger. USE the tool you paid for!

I agree with the PP's. I am all about living life to the fullest and think that is all this quote is trying to say... -
Constantly overeating stretches your pouch. Not carbs... White carbs are pretty nutritionally deficient so avoid them as much as possible, but NOTHING is off limits as long as it is in moderation (except soda depending on your doc)... Totally writing off a food from your life forever is asking for a MAJOR binge later on. I allow myself a little of whatever I want, and I never EVER feel deprived.

Freaked Out This Am - Pants Tight
kgloverii replied to jetsy62's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Minus the pregnant part, AMEN TO THAT SISTER! I NEVER imagined a size 8 in my future. This totally exceeded my wildest expectations... Now I'm working on a 6... And the amazing thing is, I totally expect to get there! -
Ouch, that was a little harsh...

I don't count my protein and go up and down on a daily basis. I don't do the protein shakes because I don't believe in getting my calories from drinks. I get my protein from milk, dairy, beans, and meats that are in my meals. But I don't get the 'required' amount cause then all I'd be eating is protein. I like having a varied diet with fruits and veggies.

I'll put myself out for the flogging too and say I agree with Jachut.

You'll learn... but even over a year out, I still think I can reason with my band. LOL. My band always wins...
