Getting started with the journey!
Panik303 replied to Butch Luce's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck Sir. I was very nervous, but very happy I made the decision. My surgery was Aug 1. I'm down 38lbs (365 to 327). You will do great! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Hi all, Had sleeve surgery Aug 1. Recovery has gone very well other than some minor issues. I didn't need any pain meds when I went home, I took one Vicodin in the hospital, and one regular Tylenol when I got home. Nothing else. For the first couple days after, when I would drink, shortly after I took a sip (I guess the time it took to travel to the stomach) I would feel a mild sharp pain near my sternum that subsided in a few seconds. This has gone away. Stopped, for the most part on about the fourth day. Haven't had any issues with constipation. Plenty of gas, but no real problem getting rid of it. As all say, walking around helps a lot. Another tip, if you need to pass gas on the "lower end", sitting on the toilet and rocking a little while helped me. I'm now getting in 6oz an hour, with four of those hours being a Protein shake. Coming out to about 400-500 cal a day. I have no pain now. Just tired and dizzy at times. The only issue I have is I AM SICK OF THE PROTEIN SHAKES! I hate them! But you come to realize, if you don't drink them, you will feel like crap. My sense of smell is off the charts. Some cooking foods that my wife may make for the family make me sick to my stomach from the smell. I go outside. Best, Jim Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Only started reading these forums for a few days. I'm not sure if they help, or freak me out. Some of the stories are simply rough. It seems most have bearable to fairly mild post op experiences, but some are hard to read. I'll be praying for those. Do many have second thoughts a few days before the date? Ugh. My wife is a little nervous for me. Well surgery is scheduled for the first one this coming Monday morning. Dr only required one week Optifast 800 liquid diet pre-op. Just a bit nervous. My Pastor and a few friends from Church will be there to give a little comfort and Pray with me before the surgery. Prior to starting the liquid diet, Weighed 366lbs. Don't know what I may have lost this week. I'm not one to post on forums, but maybe some support and encouragement will help the nerves. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Although I feel pretty good after the surgery, I am drained. I am on an all liquid diet. My Dr wants me to drink 4 oz of Water every hour. Shooting for 40oz of water, life water, etc a day. But almost every time I take a sip, I get this pain just below my sternum. The water is room temp. How long does this last for most? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

So, I'm through the surgery. Got to my room at 11:00am. Waking up after surgery was tough. I had severe nausea. They got that under control, and now, I feel very good. No gas pain, very mild pain at the ports in my stomach. Able to get my Water in (4oz) an hr, no problem. What's crazy, is I feel so good compared to what I expected, it's disconcerting. They say the "tap blocks" are basically making the ports, for the most part, numb. Pastors from my church prayed with me and the surgeon prior to the procedure. My Dr prayed over me as well, how cool. So far, all is great. One day at a time. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
