  1. This came in up during a group meeting with our surgeon. We all told him what we were getting again. He described both procedures again. This was about 2 weeks before surgery and we had all been on a 6 month wait so we had discussed this in private with him several times. However, some of the people who were getting bypass starting wanting sleeves. Someone asked how do we know which one is best for us. He explained that its a personal choice but that sometimes if people have a lot more to lose, they chose bypass, or significant diabetes, they choose bypass. Even though I don't have it, but both my parents and grandparents have it, I opted for the sleeve. I'm only 6 days out, but I am 8lbs lighter and happy!

    Feel like sabotaging today

Excuse my ignorance because I am not as far out as you, but if you can eat a bagel in your stage, and want a bagel, keep a supply of low carb ones around. Do you have a low carb store around? There is a middle ground there! I now the feeling. My favorite are everything bagels, I found a low carb store about a month before surgery to get some.

I agree with Suze58, sugar free popsicles have helped with my excessive thirst too!

All I can do is sleep

I too was so tired after surgery. Was sleeved on 4/3/17. Doing so much better now since I have stopped pain medication. I stayed two nights as well in part because I wasn't getting my fluids in manually because I was sleeping too much and they had to continue the IV. It gets better. I didn't nap yesterday or today.

    2 week preop diet cheating

I was just sleeved on 4/3/17. I did not have any cheats during my 2 week pre-0p diet. The main objective is to shrink your liver, were these sugery or high high carb cheats? One question my nurse asked me while we were completing my pre-surgery disinfection was about my bowel prep. She asked if it was watery or if I still had chunks. It was was watery but I wonder if I was still passing chunks would they have canceled my surgery?
  6. Thank you! I'm getting sleeved and am having 2nd thoughts. HW 276 CW 210. Your post is reassuring! If you work hoe long before you went back?

  10. I'm going to have surgery soon, I would like to know. Were you sleeved or gastric bypass? I've heard gastric bypass are more likely to lose more hair due to more nutrition loss. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Another step closer

I've had the same concerns. I'm past 6 months and have lost 63lbs and am starting to wonder if I continue to lose weight, do I even need the surgery! I get my sleep study results today and after this, I will have no more requirements. These concerns are real!!! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  12. When I found out I had to wait 6 months for surgery, I was disappointed. Now, because of a sleep study consultation,I am going to have to wait ATLEAST 2 months more, but when I look back, I am happy. Have lost 53lbs presurgery, and feel better!

    Losing before surgery.

I did a sleep study and the consultant was booked out until jan. I did it in November. They want that appointment to happen before my surgery! Ugh! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Losing before surgery.

Wow great work. Did you feel like you still needed the surgery? I'm thinking if I could lose 30 more, should I get it. I wanted to post a pic, but didn't know how Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Metabolic Testing?

Yes I did it, and it helped me feel better about how poorly I had been doing even when I was eating clean. The test I took was Medgem. Apparently someone my size should have been burning 1900 calories at rest, but I was only burning 1025. I've been able to lose 38lbs in almost 4 months by going to 1000 calories a day. It reaffirmed that I need surgery. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Embrace the Stall

I agree with you so much! I am pre-op right now and I have been losing weight with some stalls. I would have messed up by now because my previous thinking would have been "I'm depriving myself for nothing." Since I can't quit because I need to keep going to have the surgery, it has taught me some patience. I'm going into my 4th month and haven't given up. Usually it's the 3rd month. Good news is I have lost about 23lbs and while it's not coming off as fast as I would like, it has taught me more patience Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Can't lose the 15

It's a metabolism test. Basically after fasting for a short time you breathe in this machine for 10 minutes. It measures your resting basal metabolism. In the past, I could do low carb and exercise and lose 15 to 20lbs a month. 10 years later I cant. Well what I found out is that someone my height and weight should be burning 1900 calories by doing nothing other than breathing everyday, just being alive. The Medgem said my rate was only 1025 calories a day. Slow metabolism along with a fasting glucose of 114 (prediabetic) was causing it to be darn near impossible to lose weight. They gave me phentermine to increase my metabolism which has helped me to lose 20 pounds in 2 months. Currently eating between 1000 to 1200 calories per day. How to quit sugar ?!?!?!?

I'm finding I am craving SALT more than sugar. One would thing that after five years, I would have a handle on this ,but I find that "Craving" is different from hunger (which I do NOT have). The one thing that helps me from woofing down an entire bag of Lays is to eat some salty cheese, such as Feta. Any other suggestions???? My go to is pork skins barbecue but I know that everyone doesn't like those. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
