AmeriHealth Caritas insurance
Cocoon2Butterfly replied to jnj701's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been denied twice. The approving insurance kept telling me I need to do more, that I had my co-mormid medical conditions were under control with meds. She had to insert that she was also heavy. That there are so many medical problems. I pulled a copy of my insurance to check what my requirements were. I compared that with what the denial said is my requirements. Well guess what? They were different. I contacted my HR dept. They are make calls on my behalf. I should here from them next week. Don't give up. Let your doctor and your HR dept help you. You can also file an appeal. Cocoon to Butterfly -
I am going through my second denial process. Look at your requirements on your insurance and compare them with your denial letter. They were different. I called my HR dept and she has contacted the insurance. Hopefully I here something next week. I was scheduled for 11-16-16 and had to cancel. Appeal . Keep your head up and do some research. Prayers it will get approved. Cocoon to Butterfly

I meet all my requirements. The doctors office thinks a code they put on they don't like. I am now in pending not denied. I heart sunk when I received that letter. I still have a chance. Cocoon to Butterfly That may have been what happened with mine. It took over 2 weeks and when I called they said they had resubmitted because of a code. A couple of days later I had a surgery date and am currently 1 week post op. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I received my second denial Cocoon to Butterfly -

39.1 with high blood pressure, diabetes, Triglyceride. The insurance said since I have it under control with meds it is not a life and death. I told them I have have had both knee completely replaced and I have arthritis in my right foot. I told her what, now would have to have a heart attack to be life threatening? I was so up set I started crying. When you have been fat all your life and try and try to lose weight. You need this tool. Cocoon to Butterfly -

Do they give a reason for their decision that you're "not medically appropriate"? Im told that insurance companies often play a wording "game" and you just have to stay persistent and you'll get your approval. I request approval next month so any info helps. Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App No did not give any other reason. Cocoon to Butterfly -

Per my HR dept, they can not ask you why. Just let them know you are having a medical procedure. If they ask you, have them call HR. This is a very personal to me. Yes file FMLA my HR told me I should. Cocoon to Butterfly -
I am waiting for insurance approval if you were asking me. Cocoon to Butterfly

It is not any bodies buisness. I have not told very many people. When I am scheduled I am going to say the same thing. I am having a procedure done. It's personal. Leave it at that. Wishing you the best. Cocoon to Butterfly -

Name Your Sleeve!
Cocoon2Butterfly replied to Yaberhoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the idea of naming my sleeve. I have not had my surgey yet but thought this is the best way to identify my new sleeve instead of saying my stomach or my sleeve. Gidget is her name. Gidget is a contraction of "girl midget," which is why it went on to be used to describe small female surfers. Cocoon to Butterfly
