**How soon did you get your first fill????**
holly11 replied to txjanaa1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on May 12th and will not have my first fill until June 24. My doctor will not give you a fill before 6 weeks. Hang in there it will get better!!!! -
I have not been lost any weight in about a week and I am almost 4 weeks out from being banded. I am on soft solid foods and have been ok with it. I have tried to stay away from high carbs. I usually walk about 2 miles everyday. So here is what I didn't realize, I am not getting a lot calories throughout the day and I thought I must be getting to many. I just logged my food intake into Daily Plate and I only got 691 calories today. Is this ok or is this a reason I am staying at the same weight? I didn't weigh today because my next weigh day is tomorrow. Do I need to be getting more calories? How should I go about this without snaking. I am so lost in this process. I want to lose the weight and I know they say focus on healing at this point and I am but I have cut back on how much I eat and I am not losing anything.......HELP!!!!! Thank you in advance for reading and commenting!!!!

My doctor let me go after my 2 week check up....I guess it depends on the doctor. He did tell me not to swim in a public place only in a closed pool. It has been in the high 90's here so I am glad he didn't take that from me

I have my 2 week post op appt on Tuesday. I am still on a full liquids and I am going crazy....I need something with texture, something besides soup. I know most of it is in my head but I have been so upset today because I can only have liquids. I am questioning why I did this to myself and then I say this is not forever!! Please give me some tips on how you handled this stage. I am not hungry at the moment but it will be soon time for dinner and if I have to soup I think I will just go to bed...I can't do it....would mashed potatoes or cream of wheat be so bad??? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I am feeling better and it is a new day!!!! I just have to look at as like I only have a couple more days before I go back to the doctor. I just feel like a bottomless pit. I read stuff about people who can't drink a lot or it takes them 3 hours to drink a 8oz protein drink and that is so not me. I hope I haven't done anything to my band. I will make it, not cheat and I owe that to ya'll!!!! THANKS!!!!!

To stay or not to stay...
holly11 replied to YoungNy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor makes you stay a night and now I wouldn't of had it any other way. I was so sore and it was hard for me to get out of the bed. I know some people have it as a day surgery but I would spend the night if you can!!!! Good luck to you!!! -
Congrats!!! Good luck to you ....keep us posted!!!!

Thank you so much for your all your help!!!! I went and walked instead of eating which is a first and then came home and had some soup. So one more day down. Hopefully at my 2 week check up he will say I can move to mushies. But the nutritionist says I can't have them until 4 weeks....who do I listen too??? Again thank you so much....you have no idea how much you have helped me!!!!!

they use a needle!!!

It is the part of the band the doctor can access just under the skill to fill and unfill your band. As far as what it looks like find a picture of a band and it is the end part what is connected by a tube. Good luck in your journey!!!

Bandlife... The Beginning (first 4 To 6 Weeks)
holly11 replied to BobbieDoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have read several post about drinking through a straw. Some doctors don't want you too and some don't care. Mine is one that doesn't care. I have only drank through a straw because I tend to want to gulp if not....I can take tiny sips through a straw and it hasn't given me problems. I think it depends on the person...if it causes problems then of course you don't want to but if you can tolerate it and it doesn't cause problems then I don't think it matters. I could be completely wrong but according to my doctor it is ok. I have said before I think you have to listen to your body. Your doctor can give you guidence but you are the one that knows what is best! I wish everyone luck on your journey!!!! -
How Much Protein is too much?
holly11 replied to VenturaCtyGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor has me on 60 grams of protein a day. I have to drink 3 protein drinks a day and it can be difficult. He said that I should stick with a drink that gives me about 20 grams at a time because it is hard for your body to absorb more then that at one time. As far as 600 cal. that is about what I was consuming right after surgery and I wasn't losing any weight either. I up the calories to about 1000 cal. and have lost a couple of pounds. I don't know if it is because I am taking in more calories or if it is because I am feeling a lot better. Don't worry so much about losing weight, it will start coming off, just worry about healing!!! Good luck to you!!!! -
Update requested from May bandsters.. May 11th, 12th, etc....
holly11 replied to mstrina27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to be on a full liquid diet at your stage. This is anything you can suck through a straw. My doc. says mashed potatoes are in the mushy stage. I have been eating Soups, Jello, pudding, and Protein Shakes. It is getting VERY boring but I know it is not forever. I would call your doc and see where he wants you to be at. I would follow his directions as all docs are different. Just remember you are healing so it is important not to move to fast or get sick on what you are eating. Good luck to you!!!!
