When do you....
happyheather replied to LeslieR041906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi, well a day after surg you shouldnt try to eat any thing solid!!!! Very dangerous. when you start to heal, you will become very hungry. Your stomach will be talkin!!!! But you should do liquids at least for the 1st week. Be safe!!! Protein shakes are the best. Yogurts, maybe the end of the week. You have to really try to follow your instructions. I had a grilled cheese about 1.5 wks out. And I dipped it in my soup. But i could have really screwed things up. My Dr. told me a horror story of someone getting it lodged in the esophogus and that he had to have emergency surgery and they couldnt get it out. So they used enzymes as a last resort. Very painful and scarey!! So dont rush it.. lol.I was so freaked after that I didnt eat solids for sometime. Bread is the enemy!!!! Be careful.... -
Dr. Means in Pittsburgh
happyheather replied to paulawho's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
hi paula, I didnt have Dr. Means. However, I am from the pittsburgh area. I went to Magee Hospital and had Dr. Carol Mcloskey. She was great. But i only saw her on apts. Its kinda just me do it alone. I went to all the meetings pre-surgery. And I was banded in april. I have lost about 23lbs. Its slow going and i admit its a little frustrating. I have my secound fill on june 24. I have read that sometimes it takes sometime before the fill actually kicks in. I do eat less, but still a little more hungry than I hoped. I have no regrets, and I am focused on going on and doing better. I wish you luck. And hope for the best for you. -
4 1/2 weeks post op, need answers quick...
happyheather replied to katie78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well this sounds normal, your stomach is still healing and sometimes it takes longer for some to heal. Thats why the Dr. gives you the post op diet to follow because though I may be able to eat something, you might not. Nobody can really tell, you just take it slow and make a mental note of what causes discomfort. Im about 7wks out and some things bother me still, and I had a fill a week ago. The fill really hasnt done much. I dont feel any differnt. I dont eat as much still, but I still havent lost any more weight. I think that this is so a hit or miss thing that everyone will be differnt... But if you are in pain to much!!!! Please call the DR. Be Safe -

I was banded on 4-8-08. I had lost 20lbs. But since have gained wieght back, I now have only maintained 15lbs lost. I feel okay about this, because I know Im doing the right things. However, my family and friends are like" how long does it take to lose the weight?" Its frustraing for me because I feel as though I am letting them down. I know its about me and my journey, but could you tell that to my friends and family!!!! lol!!! I feel the pain too, it hard not to lose weight and keep positive. -

happyheather replied to viviananna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surg on 4-11-08. I doing really good. Felt pretty sore but not as bad as i thought! What did shock me was that about 4 days after i was hungry!! stomach was growling!! I have been pretty good with liquids. But did taste rice! and grilled cheese with my tomatoe soup!!!!! I realize this was insane and could have hurt me! But im ok!!! i have had soft pastas and one egg over easy. But very little amounts. My kids eat more than me. Its only been 2wks. I shouldnt be doing softs yet!! I do protien shakes, yogurt, soups, runny oatmeal and jello pudding. all sugar free. Its not bad. I have just started mashed potatoes and egg beaters this weekend. It all went down ok. I will be on course better now though!! Im happy with the softs and soups. I dont get 1st fill until may19th!!! I have not lost anymore weight. Just 15 now. But i plan on stepn up my excersise and walks!! I feel much more rested now. :smile2::biggrin:
