Question for sleevers with a start of 350 +
volfan replied to QueenOfTheTamazons's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
a guy here, so there is that. I was 394 june 25-16, I was 361 july 11 for surgery, all liquid diet. I have lost right at 92 lbs pretty much 25 a month post surgery each month and not quite at 3 months post op yet, had stall for a week after 5 or 6 weeks, gained 3 and lost 8 week. I have noticed if I do not sleep, I do not lose weight, make sure you sleep! Doctor choose my goal weight, hell I weighed that in 3rd grade, no kidding, I was 6ft tall too. I played football in college at 275 all muscle. I seriously don't see getting under 250, I know muscle lose happens, but...I have a horrible back problem, I exercise very little, walking Walmart is about it. -
I don't want to sound harse, I am a gay man 51, I have been there done that. I won't ask you a lot of personal questions, but I have a feeling you have probably never meet this person, in person. even if you have, you have spent most well over 95% of the relationship apart, texting or calling, you need to realise you are in love with a feeling, but you are projecting feelings on to someone that is a fantum of your mind. Yes she is a real person, but you are double reading everything she says or does in a perfect light, and no one lives in that, perfect light, what she tells you is one side of a story, and then you are interpreting it, which is another side. You need to focus on you right now, and as so much is changing, physically, and emotionally, this kind of relationship is not healthy, or a healthy choice for you. I suggest you concentrate on friends right now, that you can count on. Do you really want to be in a relationship with someone who makes decisions and plays around like this person? I doubt it. I also believe your mother already knows about you, or knows but doesn't accept it. Moms know everything, and people gossip, even if they have no facts, someone has mentioned it. You need to accept you, then decide okay, I am "left handed" I am going to tell my mom, because that is just who I am. If she can't accept it, I know what demon I have to deal with then, and if she does we will be closer. What other people think about me is none of my business needs to be your motto, you can't change their minds, you are you. Yourself confidence is going to really take off, and you need to make decisions with you in mind. Tell this person that, wish her luck, and cut ties, block her number and delete it! A year from now if you feel the need, you can find her easily, but you need to stop the string pulling she is doing, because, she herself probably doesn't even know how much she is doing of it. You had this surgery for you, now do this for you mentally. Best of luck

Negative comments - not "fat enough"?
volfan replied to Jim Paulette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try to take it as an educational moment, obviously they are ignorant of your health, they are not your doctor, you might just let them know that, nicely, and then explain, weight has been an issue, and I not able to beat it, for whatever reason, I need this tool. It will help me be healthy, I hope you can support that, because it isn't really a discussion, my health, that I feel you need to put your 2 cents into. I don't question you about yours, I think our friendship will be healthier if we accept each other and not try to debate personal choices. I am an expert on me, and so is my doctor, but please don't take my being honest with you about asking, as an invitation to interject your personal feelings, it just wasn't, and won't ever be. -
Found an Awesome Protein Powder
volfan replied to BigNorm4Life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, too many calories and sugars, and carbs, Search the net for All Whey, they make quite a few flavors, are much cheaper and usually like 25 grams for 1 scoop and 120 calories, add free milk and you won't even notice they are not full flavor shakes. White chocolate peanut butter is my personal favorite. I got 5lbs for like $35 delivered, look around you will find great deals and sites. Most sites are cross posting on ebay now, so a simple search of whey protein will help you diet friendly protein. Best of luck I started about same weight as you, and I have lost over 90lbs since June 25th. Watch calories -
I have used them, I am not picky about flavor. I mean it is a shot, just do it. They are called new whey I believe. They are a mix of three types of protein, collogen as mentioned, whey, and I cannot remember the third. You know that your body cannot take in more than 30grams of protein at once, so no matter how much protein is in the shots, you 't all of it. Good news is they make another one that is a 28 gram shot and cheaper. They are strangely thick if you refrigerate them, which might make some dislike them. Search the internet you can find a case of 12 of them for under $24 I believe vitashoppe of something like that, then search the sites name and coupon, most of the time you will find free shipping, or 10 percent off for most sites. My doctor says they are ok in a pinch but certainly there are better sources of protein. He. question how much you might be able to use of the protein in them, he said figure about 18grams for a shot. They have 180 calories. I make a gallon of Walmart apple drink (2 bucks for 6 packets, 2 to a gallon) then I add Nector apple protein, 4 scoops, fill 4 empty G2 bottles, place in frig. I sip all day on them, 2 is 64 ozs of water, check, and 50 grams of protein. Have some greek yogurt, cottage cheese and you are there! I flavorless protein, add it to cottage cheese, or decaf coffee iced

I just need some motivation
volfan replied to rhaya sunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had any issues getting liquids or mush foods down, relax. I was convinced I was given a placebo surgery. You made a great decision soon you will feel the differences happening, and you will find out as you progress through the stages, that yes, you have a small sleeve, it won't hold much. water really almost goes right throw, food will be when you feel the restriction, relax and enjoy that things are going great, you are not having any issues, and are having no physical issues. Best of luck -
my understanding is the sleeve will not actually ever stretch. The stretchable part of the stomach is removed in the VGS I am two months out and a fast eater, I asked my dr and nut and that is what they told me. Eating slows helps us know when we are full and not stuffed, and chewing small bites well, makes digestion easier. I still eat fast too, we are fine. I have reached the stuffed point and had to throw up, not much food either.

Pain while eating or drinking?!?!
volfan replied to jaybee b's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't, but e we are all different, it is not abnormal, the throat is swollen from tubes during surgery, and the sleeve is swollen, it will pass, relax, and take it slow. Praying for you! -
32 hours post op and feeling good
volfan replied to Jay Mack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Awesome, I had zero pain at all, and was convinced I was given a placebo surgery! Doctor said a lot are like us, but we just hear more about the others, which is a shame. I was in the hospital less than 24 hours and have had zero issues with pain, or incisions since (yes in America). I honest was back to normal after the second day home, I took it easy as suggested, but easy pesy for me. I also have zero scares from incisions. How they get the rest of the stomach out of those little cuts is a marvel of modern medicine. Hope everything continues being great for you -
What does your "full" feel like?
volfan replied to kelliev2015's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
similar to before. I find eating slow is best because the feeling is delayed, or used to eat a bit more after the feeling started. I discovered that eating past full is a mistake you will hope, and seriously try not to make again! I felt terrible, my chest, everything up from the belly ached. I burped like crazy for about 30 minutes, and then thought, okay maybe a little liquid, yep threw up the white, tasteless thick foam. I didn't feel good until hours later. If you haven't felt it yet, you can drink water, until you do, it didn't make me sick, and the sensation went away after 5 minutes. I am 2 months post op, and I can tell you, as you add different foods, be slow, as some will stay in your sleeve longer, and just seem to have no room. I try not to drink again until thfulliness is completely gone. Meassuring gives you a great reference of just how much you will be able to eat, you will learn to eyeball it, but, always best to measure a few times a week, but, you will know when you have become full, just don't let it be too late. -
I have used the patches, here are my feelings. First off don't put them on your butt. I did and they kept coming off. I put them on upper arm or shoulder. I have no idea how well they work, so... however, you are supposed to wear them for 8 to 12 hours depending on which ones you buy. It has been a very hot summer here, I like to get out and sweat, and then take a shower, ahhh not so fast, I have a patch on which cannot get wet. They really don't reapply well. Also, I tend to roll in my sleep, again, I lost them at night. I decided, yeah, great idea but not for me. My doctor makes a powder vitamin you might like newlife.com

Almost 2 months out, not one of my inions is still visible without me pointing it out, and I seriously view that one, as my tattoo, I love it! I know it sounds trivial but embrace your body and love it, not saying don't use whatever product, but if you can view any scar from this as a victory, good for you
-
I did a powder vitimin you mix in water, twice a day. I really had no issue swallowing pills so after two weeks the nut said go ahead and take the oil form. I went on line googled mutlivitiam patch, if you decide to go that way, use biariaticpal a coupon. Any on line sight you buy from google their name and coupon, 90% of the time I find a discount coupon. I like the patches, but have had problems with them coming off, so I switch to shoulder from butt. Now I have issues with daily activites, I like my hot tub and showing after a work out or any sweaty activity, but the patches can't get wet, and need to be on around 12 hours, not convenient for me

I stopped all medication, 4 metformin a day, and two types of insulin, a basil and a long lasting, maybe the basil is the long lasting... Anyway, I took 60 units before a meal, and 80 of the long lasting at night and in the morning. I had taken insulin for almost twenty years. I assumed it would be needed after but I hoped for a big reduction. I tested in hospital was 101, left after 24 hours tested at night, was 82, I went cold turkey off all diabetic medications, and we stopped all my blood pressure, except the one they have you take to protect your kidneys, and no more cholesterol either. I am on stage 4 now, I have seen my sugar go up to 140, but in the morning it is in line. I haven't cheated on my diet, and barely get 30 carbs in a day, if that. Everyone is different but I am sure you will take a lot less! I just could not afford insulin anymore, it was really the main reason I had the surgery. I am so happy I did, hopefully no needles ever again. I will say that my doctor warned me of a honeymoon period, and the need for them might increase after a year or two, it does for many, but I will do what it takes to stay healthy, you made a great choice, best of luck and recovery

Okay new recipe that whole family will love. You might need to serve it to them over rice, for carbs, but I eat it as is, or over spaghetti squash, or miracle noodles (actually I ordered some, I have not tried them yet, but they have zero calories and carbs, I ordered some) Ok, bored with Protein and 600 calorie stage 3 and 4 diet so I have used my cooking skills, over 30 years in the restaurant industry, to come up with a tasty good for US Chinese dish! This makes a lot, it freezes pretty well, adjust for your desired amount. I like to cook ahead and freeze. 2 24oz packages of turkey tenderloin (I got them as buy one get one free) 1 can chicken broth 1 large can Chinese lo mein veggies 2 cans sliced Water chestnuts 2 cans bamboo slices 1 lb fresh snow peas 1 packaged sliced Portobello mushrooms 1 zucchini, diced 2 bunches green onions 6 garlic gloves diced 1 cinnamon stick 1 tablespoon pumpkin spice ( I didn't have all spice or 5 spice, it is really close, plus every cook has some) 2 table spoons red pepper flakes 2 tablespoons Cajun spice 2 tablespoons squeeze bottle fresh ginger, or diced fresh 5 tablespoons amino acid, which you will find has zero calories, and is a perfect substitute for soy sauce 2 packages of mushroom gravy mix, store brand, usually 25 calories for serving, 4 to a packet, this makes a lot 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 3 tablespoons black pepper Okay, in a pressure cooker put turkey (pork tenderloin is an acceptable substitute) broth and all the spices. cook on high pressure for 45 minutes dice veggies like onions and zucchini and open cans, drain all but the lo mein veggies (drain and save for later), while this is cooking you might want to cook a spaghetti squash, cut in half width wise, put in oven safe pan and put in over, then turn on, no need to preheat, to 460 degrees and back for 50 minutes, remove seeds after, it is easy, and don't add water, that destroys the texture and taste. Simply shred with a fork, flesh will come out like angel hair. Store in refrigerator for 5 days, reheats great in microwave. basically calorie free. okay, remove turkey to a plate to cool, slice into smaller pieces it will cool faster. Get cinnamon stick out and throw away. Add gravy packets to juice, and bring to a boil, as you stir, won't take long, then add zucchini, first, then all the rest of veggies, put lid on to just cover, and turn heat off for 10 minutes, everything will be a perfect doneness.as you are doing this tear turkey into shreds with fingers or 2 forks, you might need to allow it to cool a bit more. If so, turn rest of dish back on low, or simmer. mix in shredded turkey in Now if it is too thick for your liking add the lo mein juice to thin as you like. If you will be serving to your family over rice, they wil probably like about half the can added. I personally like a thick dish, but depending on your stage, adding the whole can of juice still makes a nice beyond thick Soup. Enjoy over spaghetti squash, or straight. I do not know the actual calories, but they are very low, I would say less than 80 for 3 oz. Almost zero carbs, and lots of protein from the turkey. The cinnamon and ginger really make this special. I prefer it to restaurant dishes.

Cut carbs, now I can't sleep?
volfan replied to Caribear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got no answer for you, but going through the samething, only I am not tired at all. But, yep it is common when you go into keatons I think it is called. Hopefully it passes for us both soon. I talked my nut today, she said I have to up my carbs, I am getting less than 20 a day. -
As for yogurt, I like the one the poster mentioned, I get the fat free plain, it is loaded with protein and low on calories and carbs. To me it taste like sour cream, maybe I haven't had food in a while lol! You can added sugar free flavorings, like you use for coffee, also adding powders is good if you let it sit for a day first. I like a white chocolate peanut butter made by Allwhey. You can put it on scrambled eggs with some hot sauce. I like it on fat free refried beans, with a poached egg too. I know Krogers makes a yogurt called Carve Cravers (or cutters?) it is like 60 calories for serving and has some good flavored, white chocolate raspberry is my favorite. I love getting cans of diced tomatoes, krogers makes a salsa style, but Hunts fire roasted are good too. I doctor them up with spices (Cajun, Italian, garlic, black pepper) then cover fish or chicken breast and bake in the oven. The left over tomatoes I eat on top of low fat cottage cheese, cold the next day - taste like cold baked manicotti. I love it. I make a quiche I made a post about, the tomatoes are good on top of that, as well as the plain greek yogurt. Sometimes I just have 3 slices of 97% fat free smoked ham for a meal, low calories and 15 g protein. Bubblebee tuna makes some premixed packets, usually a dollar, you get 3.5oz and low calories and carbs and like 20g of protein, I like the hot chili tuna, again, local groceries are making their own brand. I also use the fat free yogurt to make tuna salad and chicken salad, with same spices as tomatoes above, just put in food processor for the backed breast chicken salad. I made a chicken and tofu sweet and sour soup and added plain protein powder to it, it was pretty awesome. I starting to eat kimchi and precooked shrimp, which for calories is the best protein source I have found.

Super protein low calorie and fat Quiche
volfan posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't live without cooking something, so today I made a Quiche, it will freeze well, so it can be divided up. -16oz free cottage cheese 1/2 lb ground turkey breast or ground chicken breast- ask meat staff to ground the chicken breast for you - 1/3 lb 97% fat free smoked ham (or deli, doesn't have to be smoked) -1 cup fat free shredded cheddar cheese -7 eggs large -2 cups baby spinach -8oz portabella mushrooms, optional - 1 cup green onions diced-optional -2 tablespoons oil pinch of nutmeg, 1 tbsp. black pepper, 1 tbsp dried parsley, 2 tbsp. Cajun seasoning there is no crust, but you won't miss it. put oil in a skillet,(that can be put in oven, so you only need one dish to make this.) brown turkey/chicken and crumbled up mushrooms, add julienned ham for 3 minutes and then drain out all liquid remove from heat. preheat oven to 350 pour cottage cheese on top of meat -in empty cottage cheese container, beat eggs, then add 1 scoop of non flavored Protein powder, and mix -add cheddar, spinach, green onions and spices to meat and mix pure eggs over top, and lightly mix in. bake at 350 for 30 to 40 minutes until top starts to brown. that is it! Wonderful hot or cold. -
First off eating healthy will be good for him too. He will need more calories than you, but, he always has. I think your problem isn't figuring out what to eat, as much as it is jealousy of what he might eat. I think that is normal. For me, I am so happy to be on my way to healthy, that the idea of eating anything else just doesn't appeal to me. I have no hunger or desire to eat, and the mental cravings just have not gotten the best of me. I did eat 2 chicken tenders one night, and boy did I pay for it. It over filled my sleeve and I threw up several times and felt miserable physically for hours.I say worry about that bridge when you come to it, you will physically be a different person by then, and I think mentally you will have changed how you feel about food and meal times

Am I making the wrong choice?
volfan replied to TiredOfMyself's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I made up my mind to do it, and once I said I was, I only concerned myself with choices I would be making after surgery. I think you can drive yourself crazy over thinking things, and I know this is a big decision. Most of my honest fears were losing my friends pizza, hamburgers, fries, wine, beer, liquor, chips, deli subs, all you can eat buffets etc. I decided they made me obese, if I can get healthy, I can honestly live without them, they have never done anything positive for me. I have zero regrets! I have no hunger at all so far, 6 weeks post op. I am totally off on for blood pressure, diabetes, and I sleep better. -
Random Simple Recipe
volfan replied to GetBack_095's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds good -
I broke down today, meet friends for dinner, I had every intention of a small appetizer, of some protein. I needed up getting chicken tenders, you know the really good, hand breaded restaurant ones. I ate 2 and dipped them in sauce. Oh, I knew, like a man knows if he hits himself in the head with a hammer, it was a stupid idea. I felt like I was going to explode! My insides felt like I had stuffed huge amounts down my throat. I know it never all made it to my stomach. I relaxed and after 30 minutes sipping water was supposed to make me feel better, lmao, nope I ended up throwing up the slime. I felt terrible the rest of night, the fullness feeling didn't stop for 4 hours. I learned my lesson, I will not need to learn it again. I will stick to my pain no matter how great things are going and what I think I am ready for. I am joyfully happy, I learned, and I know chicken tenders will never be a craving for me again!

just 5 weeks out, but my hair is thicker, I credit it to quality multi-vitiams I am now taking twice a day, and biotin I added in after surgery, and loading up on protein, I get about 100g a day
