Anyone getting Sleeved in December
Carolyn2167 replied to KaylaWls1216's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, what are you going to do with your time? It seems like a long time, but it might just fly by. I'm planning to deep clean my house. While I'm in the hospital, a family member will be staying at my house with my kids. I want it to be nice and neat and tidy. I have two teenage sons, a dog, a job and a busy life so housework isn't one of my top priorities. It's livable, for us, but I don't want my mom or sister to come in and see dust in my cracks and crevices. :-) I wonder if I should be working on strengthening my core or something. The woman who did my psych eval told me that one of her patients who had the surgery told her that people should practice drinking water in small sips. So, what do you plan to accomplish while you are waiting? -

What to tell your kids
Carolyn2167 replied to chicagorocks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is an interesting question and I was fascinated by the answers. My kids are 13 and 15, so the amount of information I can give them is much different. I was surprised by their responses. My youngest, who worries about me and gets very concerned if I'm sick or hurt, is very supportive of the surgery. My oldest, who rarely seems to care about anything but girls and sports, was very concerned and said that he thought surgery was too extreme. He's become more supportive over time, but his initial reaction was quite negative. My niece had surgery in February. Her son was five at the time. They told him literally nothing. He stayed with his grandparents for a week while his Mom was recovering. When he came back, she told him she had an ouchy on her stomach and to be gentle when they cuddled. That seemed to work fine for him. Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App -
I’ve been making myself a little crazy and losing sleep worrying, so I’m hoping I can get some of your thoughts on this. I’ve completed my six months of medically supervised weight loss appointments. I’ve had the sleep study, EGD, psych eval and all of that jazz. I called my doctor last week to ask how long it should take to hear back regarding scheduling my surgery, they said that they have to submit everything to my insurance company and then it will take 2 weeks to hear back after that. Okay, that’s all good, but then I did a google search for my insurance company, “McClaren” and “Weight Loss Surgery.” And I found a website for a hospital here in Michigan that does weight loss surgery (not one I’m going through, just a random one that my Google search found), they listed requirements of a bunch of different companies, including mine. For my insurance company it says that they require a “Medically Supervised Diet for 6 Consecutive Months. food & Exercise Journal, Showing a consistent weight loss with no weight gain.” Here’s the thing, the last month of my supervised diet, I gained weight. I’m not sure why. I’d had the flu for a couple of weeks that month. I wasn’t eating much, I really expected to lose but didn’t. So, has anyone ever been denied coverage because they didn’t do well during their MS diet? If so, what happens? Do you have to do it again? The whole six months over again? Is there an appeals process? My insurance coordinator at the doctor’s office isn’t very familiar with my insurance company, in fact she said that this is the first time she’s worked with them. She’d told me that they want to see you “lose a few pounds, here and there.” I’m totally freaked out about this. Could I have totally blown everything in one bad month? What do you think?

What happens if I am denied? Please help.

@@SleevedAmy what is the reason that you were denied? Is it because you gained weight during the diet documentation period? If so, was it an overall gain or just one month of gaining? Thanks! -
