No drinking with meals?
Mcsleevy replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never in a million years would have said what I will now; I can't drink and eat at the same time. It is uncomfortable and I can't eat enough if I try drinking while eating. -

My NUT is a nut
Mcsleevy replied to futurefeatherweight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I apply a different tool. Your diet/nutrition is what works best for you. They (doctors, nuts, dietitians) work for me, but they give me guidelines and I make choices thru trial and error. If you want to eat steak then eat steak. What's the worst case scenario? Will your head explode? Will you find that it's ok to eat steak again-in your own tested way. The he said she said doesn't help. You made the choice, had the surgery, and sounds like you've gotten thru the hard part. Now continue with being in charge of your diet and experiment to find what works best for you instead of broad based format diet "guidelines" that work generically. -
Surgery date was 7/13..8 weeks out..65lbs lost...low carb/ketosis is killing me. My blood sugar drops to 65/70. Any suggestions?

My sleeve is always doing something. The little guy is just busy all the time. I was told to expect it and it'll quiet down after a few months. Everybody's different just focus on something else and watch what you eat.

Keep rockin' it! Congrats.

Thin sliced meat wrapped around cheese. Add a sliver of pickle or arugula, mustard or LF mayo if you want. The portion is wild; the first time I brought 3 or 4 and still can only eat one. Think about what you want, remove the carbs and experiment. Great job on your hard work your rocking' it!

You answered your question. It seems like you know the math and the chemistry more calories=weight gain. Congrats on your results from your hard work, you rock! -

I had surgery on 7/13/2016. I weighed 331lbs. on 7/4/2016. Today I weighed in at 281lbs. 50lbs. lost, I was feeling really great. I had a post op follow up appointment that I specifically made with my surgeon after seeing his physicians assistant instead of him at the post op appointment. Today the P.A. asked me if I was eating bread or Pasta. I told her yes , but very little. She explained that if I ate more Protein and had vegetables and fruits I would lose weight faster. I do eat a cracker, a half piece of toast, or a spoon full of quinoa and brown rice. Not a portion a bite or two. 50 pounds in 5 weeks! I told her that and she stuck to her guns as if I said nothing. I played along so I could leave, after being told to follow up with my primary care doctor with my medication management. So my surgeon doesn't keep his appointments and his P.A.'s work off a script they can't deviate from....your fired. I have been cleared for full physical activity and am eating normal food. My doctor is more than able to manage my care from here on and I have no reason to return to surgical practice. I'm a lucky person, I have good insurance and I think thats what their after now. Money and data for an ongoing study.

Isn't the ricotta bake too acidic for our tummies?
Mcsleevy replied to LA_lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made it tonite. It is very tasty, but the first bite took a minute to go down. Once the cheese overtook the tomato acid it was all good. -
I'm dying for a cigar. Any smokers out there?

I had my surgery on the 13th. I have no real sense of hunger, but holy #$%@ my brain is killing me with the need to feed. This is causing me to be cranky and anxious. I have had no real pain just a feeling like a gas cramp that disappears as soon as it onsets. I'm eating liquids and have had cottage cheese and a few spoonfuls of egg salad with no problems. My concern is that I haven't achieved that "Oh crap I'm too full" feeling. The protein shakes I make are close to a quart and I finish them with no problems in about 15 minutes. I'm losing weight and feel great, but this is to easy... am I doing something wrong?
