My diabetes will probably never go onto remission however my need for 100 units a day will go down significantly! That makes it worth it to me!! I've had diabetes for 22 years! Was diagnosed at age 11 Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

That's awesome! I've been taking Multivitamin, Vitamin d, and vitamin e! I thought I was going to get denied because I didn't have a 5 year weight history of morbid obesity! However I do have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and had a heart attack! I wish you the best of luck with your journey too! Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Feb 28th for me! -
Hi everyone!!! So tomorrow is the day that the office will submit my information to my insurance information!!!!!! This will be my first insurance claim with new insurance as I switched jobs last month! I'm so nervous.....I have a lower BMI (36.4) but I've had diabetes for 22 years, high blood pressure, heart disease with heart attack and pcos...I meet all my insurance requirements except the 5 year weight history of morbid obesity.....office seems optimistic for approval because of my medical history....we have a tentative surgery date of 1/24!!!! Anyone have any familiar situations and have gotten approved without a 5 year history of morbid obesity? Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

So, who had their gallbladder out during their bypass? I asked my Dr if he would but he can't unless there is an issue, which makes since but I heard that about 40% off post op bypassers/sleevers go back in a few months due to complications of their gallbladder.....scheduled for an ultrasound on monday....no gallbladder symptoms but hoping there is a little something there to allow him to remove the darn thing Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

Ahhh so I officially met with my surgeon! It's weird because I work along side with him in the operating room! But anyways im excited that ill have more testing....one step closer! I need an ultrasound of my gallbladder because I'd I have any stones at all he will be able to get rid of my gallbladder at time of rny! I hear up to 40% end up back in the OR for gallbladder issues adter wls! I'll need an upper gi scope and psych eval! Then my final testing will be cardiac testing!!! I'll continue my NUT visits as my insurance requires that! Looking at a December date for surgery!!! So excited! This app truly is a blessing!!!! Hope there are plenty more of you at the same timeframe! Let's do this!!! Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

Hey everyone!!! So I'm planning to have the RNY...hopefully sooner than later! Just started the process though in July and see the surgeon next week. (I've already seen the np) Ive also done blood work and NUT visit....I've gotten all my specialties doctors to write letters of support and I'm psyched!!! What an amazing app with stories of good, bad and everything in between!! Love it! Do we have any type 1 diabetic success stories? I've had diabetes for 21 years now (was dx at age 11) my bmi is 36 and I have a ton of other issues however, what was your diabetes like post RNY? I know I'll never go into remission but just curious the effect on type ones? My doctors seem to think I'll gain better control....however, on the insulin pump I've had for 4 months has dropped my a1c from 9.3- 6.7!! It has made me gain 25 lbs though! Yikes! Would anyone say the recovery period is different for rny? I'm a surgical tech....going too go back after 2 weeks Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -
Hi guys!!! My name is Lisa. I'm new to this whole process! I had my initial consult 7/13, and my first nutritional consult 7/22. I have excellUs BCBS NY. A bit about myself...I am 31, my BMI is 35.4! I have had diabetes and hypertension for 21 years. I had a heart attack 6 years ago at age 25. I also have high cholesterol, PCOS, metabolic syndrome and GERD. I need the roux en y for these medical ailments as well as weight loss! I work in thr operating room and participate in these procedures weekly! I love it and it doesn't scare me at all (thank goodness). I spoke with the surgeon who says im pretty much a shoe in as long as my BMI is 35! All my doctors have written letters of support and my previous PCP wrote a diet history attempts at weight loss letter...spoke to the surgical coordinator at work and she says I won't need to do the monitored weight loss and could potentially have surgery in October! Holy smokes!!!! Anyone have a similar experience??? This all seems to be happening soooooo fast!!! I see the surgeon officially on August 10th! Any helpful hints???
