I had horrible ulcer reflux, gastritis etc. dexilant and carafate helped a little but ultimately I had to be converted to a bypass. My original surgeon kept telling me it was no big deal and I waited on it. Then I had a surgeon attempt a bypass but it was too damaged and I had to go to another surgeon and it took him 7 hours to bypass it cause of all the damage and my sleeeve started twisting etc. keep on this and get a second opinion if need be.

I’m curious why you don’t want the bypass? I was set on sleeve and saw about the reflux issue. I asked my surgeon and he told me that the bypass was out and I had to be sleeved. I spent a year waking up throwing up acid and I’m horrific pain. When I finally sought out a new surgeon and got converted to bypass it was the best day of my life. I woke up and acid was gone, I’m off all gerd meds and can sleep laying down again. I saw no difference in recovery or prep for sleeve and bypass. I would listen to your surgeon, the last thing you want to do is have to start all over a year later

Please go to your dr immediately and tell him to figure out if you need to convert to a bypass. A kink in angular is a bigger deal than you think. I ended up doing dilations 10 times and a stent before I finally had the courage to find a new dr. When I got my second and third opinion I was told if your sleeve doesn’t respond to dilations or stent after three months it needs to be converted. I waited almost a year by time I left dr (10 months out) and 2 months for insurance to cover it. Exactly one year from original sleeve surgery went in and there was too much damage to fix it by bypass and I was told I needed a thoracic surgeon. It broke my heart waking up and not having the bypass done. I cried for days and accepted the fact I would have to live with out eating the rest of my life. My esophagus was completely damaged by acid reflux and i didn’t sleep and was so scared. Luckily a Surgeon was able to make me a tiny pouch bypass two months later without cutting up my entire esophagus. But I went under not knowing what the surgeon was going to do. Stenting and dilation are dangerous and almost killed me and caused a lot of damage. Please tell your surgeon to fix it or find someone who will. This your life.

Pear juice is a laxative or pears in general. My dr suggested the pairs in a can in pair juice and it worked well.

I was converted from sleeve to bypass a month ago. I was walking around the hospital the next day and haven’t sat still since. I get tired a little bit but have felt great. I was allowed to go back to the gym (treadmill and bike )two weeks out. I also was allowed to do light weights at two weeks I’m talking two pound dumbbell not machine. I was told I can do yoga in two weeks as long as it’s basic yoga and at two to three months I can do Pilates. I had strictures, hour glass sleeve with a cork screw formation. No leak but a very bad situation and I instantly felt better and had more energy. Hopefully you have the same success. Good luck!

I take flinstones complete. I had a revision and switched surgeons for second surgery. First surgeon had me buying 100 dollar bottles of vitamin. I threw them up all the time. Now I take one flinstone in morning and one at night and I feel so much better and it’s lighter on my stomach. Also much cheaper.

I too woke up from a revision from sleeve to bypass with no incisions and it was absolutely heart breaking. Cried for days. It gets better over time and you’ll decide what to do.

If they ignore you and put you off now, they won’t be there for you post op if you have a complication. . I made every excuse for my surgeons failure to return my phone calls or the fact that he was never there and I never could discuss my pain and swallowing issues cause the nurse said I had to talk to him and she couldn’t do anything. It wasn’t until my other dr was angry I was being ignored that I realized how inappropriate it was. And all the very serious complications he didn’t care about have caused damage to my esophagus and sleeve. I now have attempted a revision from sleeve to bypass once which couldn’t be done due to damage at top of my sleeve caused by GERD. so I was referred to a third surgeon to attempt a revision again. I suggest you make it clear that you need to be a priority or find another surgeon who will make you one. I immediately realized how awful the first surgeons office was after getting many additional opinions and no other office treated me like that. Make sure you are confident and comfortable with the person you are letting put a knife to you.

Premiere vanilla and strawberry hurt my stomach, the chocolate doesn’t bother me and I drink it frequently. I also like body fortress in chocolate and bariatric advantage. I never liked chocolate but for some reason I can’t tolerate vanilla protein If you are looking for a more savory option unjury chicken soup is good. Also syntrex has fruit flavors.

I have severe reflux issues I treat with my GI DR for that and I am being converted to bypass because of it (by a bariatric surgeon). I would get to a dr as soon as you can as there are other medications you can be on that may help you. I started off with Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal ulcers. Which have now gotten much worse due to reflux and has done permanent damage to my esophagus. It’s better to have a dr treat you as they may have a stronger dose of a medication or a different type that will stop it right away. I suggest not eating before bed, sleep with your head elevated and avoid caffeine, Citrus and other highly acidic foods. If you’re in a new state I would suggest starting with a GI dr or calling your first surgeon to see if he can suggest someone or the type of dr you would need. Acid reflux can do permanent damage and is so painful definitely try to get some medical attention soon. I’m on omeprazole, dexilant, Pepcid and carafate. The dexilant seemed to help a lot at first if you do talk to a dr you may want to ask them about that medication. Best of luck!

Take loose pants like PJ pants and a robe for when you walk the halls. You will be warmer and more comfortable being covered up.

I have had many complications from my sleeve surgery a year ago. After 11 endoscopy with dilation, 2 stents and 5 second opinions I was told a bypass is the only way to go. Has anyone had a bypass due to complications? I haven't ever progressed past soft food and am malnourished as I can hardly get my vitamins or medications in due to two closures at the ge junction. Any info on someone with similar issue would be helpful.

You need to see your surgeon ASAP you also should write down everything you eat and feel. I am almost ten months out and never went beyond liquids and soft food. After my surgeon dodged my calls for two months I finally got in and he told me it was my body not him. I then was told to see my dr. Went to my GI and he ran upper gi series where I was seen to have two strictures. Every time I tried to eat it would sit there and then I would get his thick slime like saliva coming up. My dr went on to dilate the strictures and found I had a twisted sleeve. It literally took on a cork screw formation with 6 twists. She opened it and it felt much better but twists up again. From January to May I went trough these dilations. I finally got I. With my surgeon again and we decided to put a stent. My body rejected the stent and a lot of damage was caused. My surgeon sugggested another stent. Finally I got wide enough to go get second and third opinions and was told there is so much damage to my esophagus and will most likely have to bypass. Please do not let your surgeon blow this issue off like I did. If your body doesn't feel right you need the help to fix it. Bring your food journals so you can show them what you eat. Good luck!

How did your stent go? I had one placed and my body rejected it. Waiting for my body to heal enough so I can have a smaller stent placed.

I took it post op to clear up esophagus ulcers and now post op for ulcer on esophagus and stomach. It works well but is very binding.
