Does anyone have a scale that measures fat, Water weight that they love?

What do you wish someone had told you BEFORE your surgery?
Rae5148 replied to switch2lose's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Best advice for in hospital: bring a robe and comfy pants like pajama pants. You will be too out of it to read so you don't need to bring any of that. Also, walk, walk, walk. It took 5 days to get the gas from surgery out but walking always helped. don't let the pain get ahead of you, you need the pain medication the first few days take it as soon as you feel it wearing off. For home: everyone is different don't expect the same results as anyone else. If you aren't ready to advance in your diet or you feel uncomfortable about anything talk to your surgeon they are the only ones who know you fully and can give you sound advice. Also, the scale sometimes doesn't motivate you as much as measuring your body. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Hi. There were a lot of people with a 10/26/16 surgery date on the boards prior to my surgery. I just wanted to see if anyone wants to chat or even start a little group as we go through this. I had my surgery at 7:30 am on 10/26/16. The first day was awful and on the second day I failed my swallow test and had a few minor complications and a major meltdown. I wasn't able to have anything to drink until 3:00 pm on 10/28/16 and didn't get to go home until 10/30/16. I'm now a little behind on my post op routine, started full liquids Monday. Pain wise, I am ok for a while and then the pain gets so bad I need to lay down. I have been walking a 1/2 a mile every morning (still can't get the gas out) and been taking trips to the store to keep busy. Maybe over doing it a bit.... Other than that, I am very bored and I am even starring to miss work. Hope everyone's surgeries went well!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Post op 10/26/16 sleeve

Hi Rhonda, I left the surgeons an hour ago. They said it's just because I have been active and could be some bruising underneath. They gave me some meds to help me sleep and said everything looks good and I should be better in a feel better in a few days . -

What are you doing to manage pain? The pain meds I got don't really work so I tried going off of them and then I realized they work just not enough. Regardless whenever I'm in a laying or sitting position I have extreme pain and haven't slept in a few nights. Are you still taking pain meds? As a nurse do you think I should call my dr to get something stronger or just wait it out? -

It's a test they give you also called a swallow test where they check to make sure your stomach doesn't leak before you can eat liquids. -

I am 5 days post op. My liquids for 24 hours prior to surgery was light apple juice, low sodium fat free chicken broth, sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. The more protein you have the more gas you will most likely have. I would stick to the clear diet above if it meets with your surgeons requirements. After surgery I resumed the same diet on day three after surgery and will start full liquid tomorrow. I had failed my leak test so was delayed to start liquid otherwise I would have started the day after surgery. Just do exactly wha your surgeon tells you and good luck. Starting pre-op liquid diet tomorrow. Nervous AF
Rae5148 replied to mikelightman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once you get past day 3 and 4 the diet isn't that bad. The first few days I had a horrible headache and it really hurt to not have caffeine. I just finished day 6 of preop and I'm actually getting turned off by the smells of food and when others eat food around me. On day 1 I wanted the food, now I just want it away from me. I feel more energetic each day and the hunger feeling left me days ago. I also try to keep busy and focus on my surgery and how much better the recovery will be because I didn't cheat. One tip the nutritionalist gave me that has helped was to drink chicken broth out of a mug at work. It gives me a full feeling and the broth is savory so it's better than tea or Water. Good luck!!! Pre-op appointment on Thursday
Rae5148 replied to dominyks_mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my preop last week. Basically I bought the Protein shakes and Vitamins for my pre and post op diet. I also signed a lot of paperwork. The surgeon then asked if I have any questions, got my preop weight. I was told what to expect the day of surgery. The dr stressed the importance of walking after the surgery. I brought my mom with me, she had more questions than me which was good. Hope this helps! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Pre Op Nutrition Class - What to expect
Rae5148 replied to ella37's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My classes were one on one. I did them for 6 months I couldn't miss one month or I had to stay over anthem insurance. We went over my current diet, the preop liquid diet (she suggested I test out differently liquids ahead of time as I get nauseas a lot and I wanted to make sure liquids didn't make me sick during the diet ). She also talked to me about staying hydrated and Vitamins and supplements. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
