We love you, Ann! I know I'm just a newbie, but your posts have always been so insightful and helpful, you seem to be someone who really has their head on straight. I look forward to hearing much, much more from you! Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App -
My Gastric Sleeve Pre-OP Requirements
KelseyBennett_vsg replied to Hiraeth's topic in Insurance & Financing
Just wanted to shout out as another Miles patient! I went for the first time in September of last year, found out after getting all of my pre-op done that I also needed 6 month weight loss study, so I just finished that a couple of weeks ago and should get everything sent in to them Monday or Tuesday, then off to insurance! I plan to pester the shit out of Sonny until everything gets submitted! So cool to find so many other folks using AWLS and Dr. Miles! Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App -
I hate to hear that this is happening to you as well! My insurance did the exact same thing to me even though my BMI is above 60 :/ I just finished the 6 month weight loss study, didn't lose any, maybe 3 lbs overall, but still up 8lbs from my initial surgeon consultation.... So I'm kind of in limbo. Mine should get submitted from pcp to surgeon then to insurance sometime next week. I sincerely hope that you don't have any more roadblocks in your journey! BCBS Ill & / True Results...
KelseyBennett_vsg replied to ETXmom77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in Alabama and have BCBS Illinois. My Surgeons office didn't tell me that I needed a 6 month weight loss study to qualify for my insurance approval. Just a heads up that every BCBS plan is different depending on who you get it though. I would call your insurance to find out exactly what you need instead of just taking your Dr's office word for it. Though BCBS wouldn't tell me anything OR send me anything in writing....they are kind of an nightmare to work with actually -

I use Bariatric Advantage powder. Its full meal replacement, so may not be what you're looking for. It has 24-25g of protein per serving and 1/2 of your daily nutrients per shake -
Any September dates?
KelseyBennett_vsg replied to jaybee b's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am hoping and praying for a late September/early October date! I finished all of my pre-op this week (it has only taken a YEAR) and hopefully will get stuff sent off to insurance in a couple of weeks, just waiting on Dr signature on weight loss study. From there its just a waiting game to get insurance approval and my date set. Too bad my surgeon stays booked a month ahead! So....late September or early October for me! -
Alabama sleepers
KelseyBennett_vsg replied to abreland's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been using Miles since September. I have been jumping through insurance hoops all this time because they just assumed I didn't need a weight loss study when in actuality I did. I was way less than thrilled. The patient advocate for Miles is kind of terrible. She is always out of the office, or just doesn't show up for the day. I have called twice, multiple times a day, just for her to never show up, one of those was RETURNING HER PHONE CALL. Its been kind of a nightmare dealing with her. Sonny, the woman who sends your stuff off to insurance also has a bad habit of not being there most of the day. All this said, I am excited to finally be nearing my surgery with Dr. Miles. He seems very competent and was very supportive when I saw him at my consultation. He really seems to know what he's doing even if his staff isn't the best. Hope this helps you out! -
I can't say how relieved I am that I found this thread! I have had one helluva ride trying to get ins approval. I started in September and weighed 352, well by the time I found out that I had to do a Dr guided weight loss study (after all of my other appts were finished and send off to ins and they denied me) it was February and I had gained 8 lbs. I proceeded to do the weight loss study and couldn't lose any weight, just yo-yo'd 3 lbs back and forth. I just finished my weight loss study Tuesday, and the NP will get the Dr's signature on everything and then off to the surgeon's office and to ins from there. I'm an absolute nervous wreck that the ins will think that I didn't try to lose the weight, even though I did everything that my Dr told me, and deny me again.....its been such a nightmare trying to get this surgery that I KNOW will save my life. I don't have any co-morbidities but my BMI is above 60....I'm just another "healthy" big girl and it sucks. Anywho, thanks for reading my little rant. I hope to be very active on this forum as I progress with my journey...its been long so far but I know I'm just beginning.
