  1. I'm 3 weeks post-op, not including 1 week pre-op liquids, and asked my Dentist about the chapped areas in the corners of my mouth. Ive been putting neosporin on it twice a day, and they won't go away (over a week). not cold sores, my dentist said it looks like a vitamin B deficiancy. Has anyone had isssues with this? I've been taking chewable flinstones vitamins since surgery.
  2. I am not yet banded, and will be a self-pay. Obviously I have to get exact details from my insurance, but has anyone had complications after a self-pay surgery? Will insurance cover infections, flipped ports, and other problems associated with banding? :smile2:
  3. hi, Ive been banded over a year. my weight loss has slowed, ive got about 20 more lbs before im really happy. My family is going on a cruise (Western Carribien) over the Thanksgiving holiday. I need some advice on what to ask for, ideas about what to eat. I'm not really worried about gaining, my band is right at it's "sweet spot", but I tend to have problems eating out. maybe I eat too fast, by the time the food arrives, it looks good! I just dont want to have issues (sliming, etc) on vacation. I could stick to soup, but I was hoping someone might have some good ideas!
  4. thanks all!! I'm not really worried about finding smart choices, more about safe choices. there are days when fish works great, and days when one bite sets me off. same with veggies, chicken, etc. I hate to eat nothing but cheese for a week! On vacation for those of you who will be newly banded, I suggest bringing powdered protien (Unjury is awesome) and sticking to easy foods like Soups, meatballs, everyone is different. Giant, (I hate to call you that) if you are two months out, you might have a fill before your trip. Be very carefull, dont push your band and your luck while away from home
  5. I'm really excited! a little nervous about the surgery, but have faith in my Dr., I have to be at the hospital at 5:45 am, so no time to get anxious in the morning. I'm just ready to get it done! My only problem right now is that I'm so hungry. I've only been on liquids for 5 days, and i'm weak and light-headed, probably taking in about 450-500 calories a day and really crabby. If I can just make it through the next 8 hours, I can go to bed, then it'll be time to go! I ate a handfull of goldfish (crackers) today in a moment of weakness, I hope it doesn't come back to haunt me. BTW, I forgot my PIN for my ticker, any advise? I'm down a total of 8 lbs.
  6. Hi all, I had my 5th fill today, and went from 5cc to 6cc (10cc band). I had very little if any restriction before, and now... Dr. had me drink water after fill, went down fine, when I got home 30 min later, i had more water and it came up, but I felt ok. then this evening, I had a couple sips of ice tea and I have been hiccuping and sliming and PBing foam (saliva?) I would like to wait this out and see how I do for the next few days, but if this keeps up throughout the night, I've got a problem. should I call the doc tonight? I know I can get in tomorrow if I need to. thanks!:tt2:

    Too tight-NEED ADVICE

I think that's what i;m going to do. why hot?
  8. Hi Leslie! We should stay in touch, I am also an April Avenger, and our weights are close, although you have lost much more than I have! I just had a fill yesterday, and am finally feeling some restriction (5cc in a 10cc band). After the past two months hoping each fill would be the one, I have had no restriction at all. We just got back from a two week vacation, and I've put on a couple of pounds. I really want this to work, and I need to use some mental muscle. I have found that talking with other bandsters has been incredibly helpful!! Jayme
  9. So funny, I'm doing the same thing. the whole time I was on liquids, I watched Rachel Ray every day (I actually find her pretty annoying) but it was comforting to see the cooking segments. I've taking down shopping lists for a few easy recipes, but haven't cooked anything yet. I just had my 1st fill, and I'm making Oprah's favorite turkey burgers this week!
  10. I;m traveling with my son to the NARCH finals in San Jose in the middle of July. this is such a large forum, I was wondering if there are any other bandsters that might be there, maybe we could do coffee/lunch? I'm still new at this, and would love to talk! thanks

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

the only benefit to getting something stuck is that you will be very carefull to NEVER do it again. I had to have the 1.5cc that was put in at surgery removed on a Sat afternoon (my doctor was really nice about it), but I was in unbearable pain for over two hours. Last week he put (back) in 1.5 cc's and I'm having another fill on Thursday cause I have no restriction, I can eat anything. I'm a little nervous about being filled, but ready to start again!! My scale hasn't moved in almost 3 weeks!
  12. Hi, went to a bar last night with some friends, everything was really loud. After talking (yelling) with my friends for awhile, I got a feeling that I couldn't breathe. I had eaten 1/2 a chick breast and had a small cocktail, so it wasn't the food, I sucked on some ice and that seemed to help, but I almost panicked, my chest was tight and it felt band-related (I only have 1.5cc in a 10cc band) Has anyone ever had this happen?
  13. so I originally posted on 5-20, and I'm still having this problem. The corners of my mouth are cracked and irritated and nothing is working! I have tried leaving it alone, Neosporin and every kind of lip stuff you can imagine. I know I'm not drinking enough, I'm still getting used to not drinking while I eat, but I'm trying. I have been taking 1000mg B-12 (under the tongue) and switched yesterday to Usana chewable vitamins. My (band) Dr. said it's nothing. I'm giving it a couple more days then I'm calling my regular Dr.

    One Month Anniversary Check In

Hi all! i hit my one month on the 29th. I've been feeling great the last 2 weeks and I've lost a total of 15 lbs, although I have been at the same weight for the past 10-12 days. i'm hoping that my plateau will end soon, i've been experimenting with different foods to see what I can tolerate. I had a problem at 2 1/2 weeks with a piece of "stuck" food, something I never want to go through again, and it has made me very cautious eating anything that might swell up in my little stomach. my NSV of the month: i've lost most of my "butt shelf"!!

    Long live Sushi

sounds great! I'm going for sushi tomorrow!!! I'm a little afraid of the rice, though
  16. no, she didn't run a blood test. I just asked her to look as a favor. I would assume it was just chapped/irritated from the dry weather, but I've been putting stuff on all day, and never have had this problem before.

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Hi all, I hope you don't mind if i join this thread. Blund, I had an incident over the weekend with a piece of grapefruit (which i had no business eating), but my dr. ended removing the 1.5cc that was in my band at the time of surgery. I've been back on liquids since. I am now scheduled for my first fill in 2 weeks and I'm really nervous. The pain from the "stuck" food is something I do not ever want to feel again. I will be extra carefull with every food I try from now on.
  18. ok so I was stupid. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and yesterday my Dr. said I could go on full mushies. I've been feeling great, and had tried a bite of burger, or a small bite of my son's quesadilla. so yesterday when I came home from the dr. I had some mushie tuna (fantastic) and one cracker (chewed really well) then later in the day I ate a section of grapefruit, no pulp or stringy stuff, just the fruit. Within about 10 minutes I had a pain in my chest that wouldn't go away, finally called the dr, but pain stopped after about 20 minutes. Dr. said 48 hrs of liquid. Learned my lesson, right? This morning, I couldn't bear another protien drink, so I ate a protien bar, it was soft and I chewed it well and I had no problem. About an hour later I had Water, and the pain started again. Unbearable! I was afraid to try to bring anything up cause my stitches might not be healed. My dh had to drive me to the dr.s office which took almost an hour. My Dr removed the 1.5cc that was in the band at the time of surgery and I began to feel better. Now I just feel like I've been in a fight, tired and sore. Now I'm nervous about my first fill (in 3 weeks). How often does this happen? If I follow the banding rules, can I avoid this problem? please, I really could use some imput. to all the new banders that are posting about pushing the limits of the post-op diet, let this be your warning!

    waking up

I did wake up in pain, the nurse told me I was complaining, and my husband said I got three doses of whatever they were giving me in my IV, then I had a pain pill (thinking "should I be swallowing a pill?"), probably 10 minutes I was fine. I stayed awake for about a half hour then dozed away most of the morning. i was up walking by 1:00 and home by 4:00. It's all a blur now! I was most happy about not having any kind of sore throat. My anesthesiologist was a saint! Good luck to you!
  20. I'm eight days out, and was on full liquids one week before surgery, and my doctor wants my on full/clear liquids for two weeks post-op. I really haven't been that hungry until yesterday and today. I did really well all day, trying to stay busy because I'm feeling so much better than last week, but tonight I made myself a bowl of really chunky chicken soup that I ran through the blender. It was the consistency of thin baby food (little tiny chunks), now I'm stuffed and uncomfortable, and I'm worried that I might have done something I shouldn't. Is it way too early for mushies?

    Let's Potty Talk!!

I'll reply to both parts. First of all, it's been a week since surgery, and i called my Dr. cause i hadn't had a bm since the previous week (about 8 days) he prescribed a liquid med for constipation and I went that night (but not a weeks worth), now it's been another 4 days and nothing. i'll call again tomorrow, because I'm continuing to take the medicine with no effect. As far as the incontinence, I've had issues since delivering the first of two very large babies. My dr. told me that it was more to do with the fat in my abdomen than child birth, and that's one of the first things his patients remark on is that their incontinence goes away. I can only hope that one day I will be able to sneeze without crossing my legs and hoping for the best.
  22. hi all! i had my surgery on Tuesday, everything went well, I was an outpatient and went home in the late afternoon & felt great! i slept great, but woke up Wednesday hurting and have been pretty miserable ever since. I have a constant pain in my left shoulder (gas?) and everything hurts from my chest to my belly button, the port site especially. I know it's only been 2 days, but how long will this last?
  23. hi everyone, I was banded on the 29th, and today is the first day I'm reallllly hungry. My doc says no creamy soups either, just protien drinks and broth, jello, etc. I've been dreaming of guacamole, can;t wait for my "mushies" stage. I did, however, buy a small frozen yogurt today, I thought it would satisfy some of my cravings. it was good, but I was nauseated for about an hour. One thing I did that was great: Carn Inst breakfast mixed with iced coffee and skim milk, yummy!

    banded may 1st

Hi, I was banded on april 29 and also have that feeling of having to burp, but can't. the pain is more like a pressure (bad), anyway, my doc says that your stomache can get very swollen after surgery, and really take your time sipping slowly, small sips. I think that helped when I started taking smaller sips. Day 3 & 4 have been much better, I'm still very sore, but feel better. Good luck to your DH!
