    First day on liquid diet!

Today was day 3. I didn't feel so good mainly because I'm having a very demanding work week and finding it tough to pace my Protein, but I figure it's good practice for post-op. Yesterday I had a slight headache, although I've cut out caffeine, I drank a couple of ounces of coffee which solved it. The worst part of today was people kept ducking into my office while eating birthday cake from the break room! Aaaahhh! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Liquid Diet

My surgeon wants me to lose 10-12 lbs. during my 2 wk liquid diet. I'm following it very strictly. My work colleague was around 300 lbs starting weight and lost 18 lbs on the liquid diet. I'm sure there are many factors that affect it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Negative comments - not "fat enough"?

The same judgmental people who called me fat at 150 lbs. would tell me I'm not heavy enough for weight loss surgery at nearly 250! Just people who get in other's business. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I had one on one for four visits over three months. She was excellent helping me to understand the eating expectations with the sleeve. We set 3 to 5 goals per meeting. I did not lose much, but I feel I have a good idea of what to eat in order to maintain weight loss into the future. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    September 2016 Sleevers!

The surgeon's office called me today and said they have a cancellation for the day before my surgery date and would I like that date (9/27) Uhhhhh...pause, gulp, okay. But I start my preop diet tomorrow? I asked. That's okay she said. I knew I could keep the 28th, but I thought okay one day sooner. Once I got my head wrapped around it and made some work arrangements I was good. So here I go. The countdown is on. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  14. Yes. After my appointment yesterday to set my date for surgery, this surgeon joins my son's surgeon from years ago as two of the smartest and strangest people I've ever met. Lol. And like two of you shared, this doctor was personable the first time I met him. I am sure that their job is extremely stressful especially if they really do care. I can't imagine staying focused for hours working inside someone's body. I think the biggest concern is their success rate. My opinion. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Final consultation with surgeon

I had mine today also. 9/28 is the day. Starting preop liquids on 9/14. I asked him a couple of questions. He has done so many he answered most questions before I could ask. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. There is a war began being waged against maintaining a healthy weight. Fast food on every corner, pumpkin spice whatever they are, well-meaning co-workers who bring in doughnuts and Cookies for the break room. I'm thinking of the sleeve as my shield and sword to fight my battle. Yes I'm anxious at times. I chose my surgery date today and shared my nervous thoughts with the surgeon. It is a big decision. As others have said, take your time. I started my thought process on this a year ago. Good luck to you in your decision. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hurry up!

A week ago I was about a week into waiting to hear from insurance. They called to tell me I was approved last Tuesday. Tomorrow I go set a date with the surgeon. It will most likely happen quickly. Good luck to you...getting good news and staying away from the cookie! Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Need advice... Surgery 9/19

I just started reading "The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients." You might like it also. I'm reading it in prep for my journey. I know the mental part of this will be hard for me also. I have a couple of other books on my list to read. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Need advice... Surgery 9/19

I understand how you feel. I get my date on Tuesday. Losing weight is difficult no matter which road we choose. But you're a different person now with new lessons under your belt. Your body is about to be changed. A co-worker had an unsuccessful run with the band. Six months ago she had gastric sleeve and looks fabulous! You can do this! 21. Think about it this way Shrinking Kitta--your brother changed his lifestyle when he went into the Marines. Now you're changing your lifestyle in a different way.
  22. pinkpeanuts--Everyone I have seen on this site recognizes that this is major surgery with strong emotional effects--both good and bad. The real people will tell you what they truly believe, not what you want to hear.

    Scared

Hi Northstar, I understand your anxiety and fears. I have all of my clearances and one more visit with the nutritionist before I meet with my surgeon and set a date. I'm hoping for September. I think if you spoke with someone a few days after knee surgery or any type of elective surgery, they would say, "Why did I do this to myself?" But they know the answer, quality of life. As I move forward with my decision, I have found it helpful to have a couple of friends--one is a colleague who I see daily (6 months out) and the other is a friend who lives a few states away (almost a year and 100 lbs out) to talk to about surgery and what they experienced--and how they feel now. I plan to follow all directions very strictly. My surgeon has a very low leakage rate, my primary care doctor says I'll be happy that I did, even my cardiologist was encouraging--they are the experts and know that the risks of poor health if I stay overweight is 100% certain. For every negative post you read I would bet that there are at least 20 positive posts. I understand why your nervous, I am too. Hang in there!
