  1. I am also vitamin d and Iron deficient. Is ferrous sulfate better? Why that and not iron supplements I wonder? ETA: Never mind.. I just looked it up. Looks like it's easier to digest and won't make me constipated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Non supportive spouse

My husband was also unsupportive at first but he has come around now. I'm not getting surgery until November. My mom is going to come help me with the kids during and after surgery so he won't have to take time off work. Can you ask your mom or sister to come visit for support? Maybe offer to pay full or half of their plane tickets? Every once in a while my H will ask me questions like. "What are you going to do when guys stare at you and hit on you?" I just said "I guess It will just help build my confidence again and that I have no problem with people staring or hitting on me" lol. He was totally shocked with my answer. Whatever!!! It's true. I'm not gonna lie and say "oh that would suck if men like me" lol. People have even told him that I'll probably leave him after I get skinny. I think that's what my hub's biggest concern is. I won't leave him!! Well, unless he gives me a big reason to leave him of course. Anyway, good luck! Just sit him down and ask him why or what his reasons are for not being supportive. Keep trying, he'll come around hopefully! And I wouldn't put this off for him. You are more important than anyone!! Including your hubs or kids. You come first. As the saying goes... You can't take care of anyone unless you take care of yourself. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    The truth about ibuprofen...

I have the same condition under both my arms ( . Very sad and debilitating disease isn't it?! Ugh I hate it. I take Humira for it now but I still get break outs if I'm a day late on my Humira. I'll be getting the sleeve in November. I'm hoping weight loss and eating healthy will fix it. Since you're now losing weight and eating healthy, has it HS gotten any better? Completely Undecided.

I read it in one of my books. I also just did a Google search and came across a few others referring to it as "blind stomach" as well. Here's a link to one that i found. I hope this helps. I don't think it's an official medical term but some doctors use this term to explain it to patients. It might also be called "blind loop syndrome" (I'm not sure though, I would need to google some more) http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/vsg/3950018/More-questions-blind-stomach/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Completely Undecided.

If your surgeon allows, you could do both. It's called duodenal switch. Have you looked into that at all? It's considered the most powerful procedure performed today. It's for patients 50 bmi and up. I hear not very many doctors do it but it worth asking or researching. To answer OP, I'm choosing the sleeve because: I don't want to dump I don't want Vitamin malabsorption I don't want a pouch for a stomach. (It stretches easier) Want to keep my natural pyloric valve (don't really want food getting stuck, etc) I don't want a blind stomach. (With the bypass they seal up your stomach. So if you get an ulcer, stomach cancer or other ailments you will not be able to have a scope go in and check it out. You will have to get an operation in order for the doc to access the blind stomach. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    BMI 39

My suggestion is either: Gain 7 lbs or wear 10 lb ankle weights or both. I wore ankle weights just be sure I was 40 bmi. I was still only 39 bmi with the ankle weights so the doctor went ahead and put that I weighed 250 (40 bmi). My surgery will be November. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I will be the first to start

@@laceemouse Yes she fibbed and said I weighed 250 in April. And I've also been wearing ankle weights and have been taking a pound out every time I go in. So the doc thinks I weighed 242 or something. But I really weighed less. Anyway this way I can lose the weight before surgery and was heavy enough to start process in April. I got this idea from this site! Lol. I've been going every month to see NUT and they said my insurance will approve. I also have BCBS. I just still worry there will be something that says not approved. I'm nervous. Anyway, good luck to you as well mama!! This is gonna be awesome for us!!! I need help keeping this secret!

I said I wasn't going to tell people but I've told everybody. I also have a big mouth. I'm excited and I can't keep it a secret AT ALL! I don't care what people think about it. But I might care later when I'm all skinny. People are gonna tell people. "Yea she's pretty but it's because she had WLS". Grrr I don't want that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I am required and have completed all my tests: psych eval, ekg, blood work and I'm pretty sure that's it. Since my blood work came back low Iron and low Vitamin d, I expect more blood work before surgery in November. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I will be the first to start

Hello all, I started my journey April 22nd. I'm looking at getting surgery in November. All I have left to do is the psych eval which is this Thursday and then they'll submit to insurance. I can't imagine not getting approved when I've met all insurance requirements. What would be the reasons for not getting approved? I'm 37 yrs old, 5'6", 235 lbs. 36 bmi with high BP. But my doc went ahead and put 40 bmi on the paperwork because I couldn't gain the 10 lbs! Never thought that would be hard lol. Oh and I live near Austin, Tx. Anyone else from this area? Spin Off thread: do people comment often?

Hello all, I'm new to this forum! Couldn't wait to join the club! So I'm sorry for no intro yet! I tell pretty much everybody about getting WLS in November. I'm so excited I can't help telling people! Not one person has said anything negative. The only thing I've gotten was "how did you get approved for that" you don't look that overweight." I'm 235 lbs btw and 36 bmi with high BP. I can't imagine people having the audacity to say something nasty to me about it. If someone did say something negative to me I would just tell them it's for my health and that I've tried everything and just gain it back. If they kept on then I'd probably snap at them for not being supportive. If it was a stranger I'd just say to each their own and ignore them and walk away. PS. Is there a place for intros? Off topic sorry, don't mean to thread jack. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
