New and nervous! If you have any kind words to extend, please let me hear them.
DebiW replied to lambypie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@lambypie Hi and welcome to the forum. We've all been exactly where you are now at one point. I am now on my liver shrink diet and my surgery is on Election Day 11/8 ! Please know that your co-ordinator should be the one person that you feel extremely comfortable going to as it's her job to act as your advocate to help you get approved. She wants you to be approved as your surgery is income and job security for them. Don't worry too much about what your doctor will write, he is just basically letting your surgeon know that he is giving you clearance for surgery health wise. It's up to your surgeon to submit the test results to BC for them to approve you. You're going to do fine and I wish you the very best. Don't give up! -
That's wonderful news Tiffany, I am still behind you on the 8th. Almost on the losers bench! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

180 Days Weight Loss Trial & Protein Shake Question
DebiW replied to paradise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the Premier Protein shakes, I have been drinking them for a few months. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am sure that must have been scary for you. I pray you are much better by now and that tomorrow is a better day.

I don't have one but was considering getting one. I didn't know if anyone else had one and used it. Or if it was something we should avoid.
-
After thinking more about it, my fear is that it could possibly lead to unhealthy eating habits, and that's the last thing I want. I was just curious about what you guys thought.

@@anywon I have BCBS Federal, and I only had 3 months on mine. My surgery is on 11/8. I would call your member services # that's on your ins card tomorrow and ask them about your bariatric benefits. Also for my policy if I used a Blue Distinction Center I only had to pay a copy of $150 for my surgery, and $35 doctor co-pay. I wish you the very best of luck in this.

@@bigjake_35 That's incredible. MY RNY is on 11/8, and I cannot wait. Welcome to the board!

Please don't be afraid. Mine was so simple. The doctor basically just wants to know that you are mentally prepared for surgery, and that you have done your research regarding it. Do not tell them you were freaking out about the appointment. I promise after its over with you are most likely going to say that was a piece of cake. The Dr I saw just asked a few questions about why I wanted to have surgery. I explained that I wanted to be healthy for my future as I wanted to live a long healthy life. That this surgery was a tool to assist me with better healthier eating choices. My appointment didn't even last 30 minutes with him. Best of luck to you.

Yay, I got the call I'm approved for surgery ☺
DebiW replied to tiffanyjo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@tiffanyjo congrats, my surgery is on November 8, so keep us posted on how you are doing. -
I purchased a large one and was told it may help with back pain. Even if it isn't needed at the hospital, I am sure I will use it for other things after surgery.

Yes I have my surgery date so happy

Congratulations, I am having my bypass surgery the following day after you. I too have turned it over to the Lord, he knows what's best for me, and I trust Him completely. -
Gas Removal at Surgery
DebiW replied to BariatricGal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are not able to remove 100% of the gas unfortunately. After my gallbladder surgery I had gas to settle into my left shoulder and it was horrible pain that lasted for hours. I also asked my surgeon if I could take Gas-X, and he said no, he had rather I didn't, but instead he preferred I walk it off to be sure to get rid of it quicker. So I guess that's what I will do, however I did buy some and may use it once I get home from the hospital if I see that I need it. -

When does the hair falling phase end? and Should I dye my hair?
DebiW replied to MozzaWehsha's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This was an excellent question, as I too was curious about this. My hair is already very fine and super thin and to know I will most likely lose more of it, just frightens me. But it's expected. Like @@Djmohr, I will probably get my long hair cut short too. I want to go gray naturally and this may be my way to do it. -
I originally wanted to lose 100lbs and asked my surgeon about the sleeve. He stated that due to me being type 2 diabetic, having sleep apnea, that he felt the RNY bypass would be a much better option for me. He said it is considered to be the gold standard and that he has done thousands of these successfully. So I am trusting him for this.

Next step... sleep study. And totally scared.
DebiW replied to Terri70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to take 10mg of Melatonin right before mine was done. They don't care how you fall asleep but are concerned with the results from when you are actually sleeping. Mine was so easy and done in a very nice room and I was tired and fell asleep quickly. I ended up being put on a Bi-pap and sleep with it every night and after my surgery I am hoping I will not need it again. Don't sweat it, it should be very simple. Best of luck to you. -
Mine with BCBS Federal only took a few days to approve mine and it will be on 10/17.
