    Eating out

I always order one plate and split it with my kids (11 & 7). There's pretty much always enough for all three of us since we're all light eaters. However, our go-to spot is the sushi train near the house. I eat tons of raw salmon and tuna (well, 3-4 ounces) and the kids get inari and tomago. Everyone is happy and there's no waste. Photo Reminder

Yeah, before surgery, my kids took some pics of me and shared them with everyone...and they wouldn't have been flattering in the best of cases. Anyway, it was one of my big motivators to make a change. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    Food Logs

I also love myfitnesspal. I eat a ton of international foods and it has everything from Russian baklazhanaya ikra to Korean gochujang. It makes eating easy. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  6. You need to talk to your OB and your nutritionist. Throwing away your eating plan and gaining uncontrollably is bad for the baby. You will likely need to up your calories, though. Get a nutrition plan everyone agrees is in the baby's best interest and stick to it religiously. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  7. I don't have an answer for you, but there's a decent chance you won't need one. Many of us are able to drink normally soon after surgery. In that case, it's not an issue. I can down a bottle of Water during my water breaks when I'm working out. You may be similarly fortunate. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  8. They can't prevent you if you otherwise qualify: An employer cannot refuse this time off for surgery. Doing so would be denying the employee his or her right to FMLA (and perhaps also to leave under a state family leave law.) FMLA entitles an employee to unpaid time off for a serious health condition whenever the employee and her doctor determine she needs it. Surgery is always a serious health condition under FMLA, and the employee apparently gave as much advance notice as possible. It can be difficult to schedule surgery, or there may be compelling health or family reasons why this employee needs to have the surgery on these dates. Normally, that is a medical decision and the employer would not be involved in making it. Some employers would tactfully ask the employee if there were any way that the employee could reschedule the surgery to another week. There philosophy would be “it never hurts to ask.” However, other employers would fear that this could result in the employee filing a complaint with the U.S. Department of Labor, that she was denied her rights under FMLA. This is a judgment call, and each employer has to make that determination for themselves. If necessary, tell them that you need a bit more clarity on the matter, so you're going to talk to the Department of Labor to help you understand FMLA better. You'd be happy to let them know what you find. DoL is to HR what garlic and stakes are to vampires. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  9. It wasn't bad. I didn't take anything after leaving the hospital. The worst was day 2, and it was completely bearable. It felt like a lesser version of a c-section. Kind of like when I first stood up any time, I was afraid my guts would just fall out. It was more disconcerting than painful. By day four I was completely pain- free. I didn't even have residual gas pains. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

  11. I don't know personally, but a lady I work with had hers done at Kaiser (Sunnyside in Portland). She was 43, close to 500 lbs, and had already had a heart attack and a stroke, so it was definitely medically necessary. I don't know how she went about it, though. Confession and suggestions?

I eat a ton of sashimi and poke. I also love palak paneer. I also make a fake bibimbap that is delicious. I just follow the regular recipe but replace rice with riced cauliflower. The egg adds creaminess and Protein. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    Calcium chews

You should look for Calcium citrate, not calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate requires stomach acid to break down and digest. After bariatric surgery, you simply don't produce enough acid. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    So tired...

I was exhausted the first month. By the end of month 1, though, I was feeling normal. By the end of month 2, I was starting to feel the effects of the weight loss and I started feeling great. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Ladies only - IUD or Implant?

I'm on my third Mirena. I adore them. They're the set- it-and- forget- it of birth control. Also, I love not having periods. I took out the first one when we were ready to have our second baby, and I was pregnant in a month. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

Last time I weighed naked, they threw me out of the doctor's office. I can't recommend it. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  18. A kg is 2.2 pounds. So you've lost 48 pounds. Are you tracking your calories? Most people aim for between 800 and 1000 calories a day during weight loss. Others go even lower. Sign up for myfitnesspal.com and record every single thing you put in your mouth every day. Don't guess, either. Weigh and measure. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    Ladies, some help please?

Fat contains hormones. When you start to lose fat, the hormones are released to run rampant, causing wacky periods, mood swings, acne, and more. It'll calm as your weight loss stabalizes. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    Low Carb Pasta

I use shiritaki noodles. They have no calories and are made from yam. You can get them at any Asian or health food store. They taste a bit off to me, but I cover them in sauce. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App

    f**king freezing

My husband is Russian. I lived in Moscow for five years. I was a lot slimmer then, but still chubby. It's a hard place to be fat. Strangers on the street will mention that you're hefty. In the meantime, all the girls look like Barbie dolls. My in-laws love discussing my weight. I didn't tell them about the surgery. I'll shock them next time we visit. Need Sizing Help

I was a size 22 in May, and I'm a size 10 now. If you're really working the program, there could be a huge difference by September--more than can be altered. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  24. It happens to me occasionally. You'd think that salmon salad couldn't get stuck, but that was one of the worst. It does happen less the father out I am, but it certainly hasn't gone away. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
